Didn't foul a lot, didn't get beaten on the glass, didn't turn the ball over a lot, didn't get killed by the other team making an inordinate % of threes, didn't get done in by poor bench play.

Just got our asses kicked by a bad team on our home floor cos our MVP looked like a deer-in-the-headlights rookie, and their rookie #31 pick played like peak Steph Curry.

Let this be yet another data point proving that when one team has a guy who shoots like Steph Curry and the other team doesn't, the first team wins.

He was finding scorers like Steph, too, 13 assists.

Say, was Curry struggling because of the Pacers defense? According to postgame thread, someone mentioned that Jalen Smith and Isaiah Jackson gave him trouble all night.

I feel like the guy who dropped 43 in the finals against Boston should be able to handle the Pacers. He just had a (terrible) off night. Probably tired from shooting all those fake full court shots.

Anytime any player struggles you can say it was good.defense. But Steph has owned a lot of good defenses.

They hounded him, but he didn't seem to have his normal energy level

Getting blown by on the perimeter and severe lack of rim protection is not a great combination.

Poole is really the ultimate boom or bust guy. When he's on, damn, he can single handedly carry us but I'd like to see him take the next step and settle down a bit. He goes for the homerun play on both ends at crucial times and when he fails it puts the team in a really bad position.

That's kinda how everyone else on the team plays though? Not on defense, but at least on transition and o in general.

Who had the Sacramento Kings being the best NBA team in California at the quarter pole?

Expand full comment

I don't think many Kings fans had that lol

welp I guess for all the games Poole, Klay, and the bench have cost us, Steph deserves one or two

And with that one we have the same number of losses as the Lakers. Making it to the Playoffs will be so hard in this Western Conference.

At this rate, making it to the play-in and winning it will be hard.

Imagine losing again against the Lakers. Horrible thought.

Unless Poole gets better at D or Klay goes to bench, don't see how Poole can be part of starting 5 on a regular basis.

Poole certainly didn’t step into Wiggs shoes

Hey! We still in play-in! So there is a chance.

Nembhard has the ugliest looking, off-the-hip, slow-release three ball that always seems to go in since ... Ty Haliburton.

Worst moneyball idea ever.

That viral video of Steph really jinxed him.

The Dubs have problems with young, big, athletic teams, and the pace they play with. Points in the paint, size, and a relentless Curry-like performance by Nembhard subbing for their best player, Haliburton, and also not playing with Myles Turner. I like Indiana and don't mind a loss to a very decent team who played well, shut down Curry, and is coached very well by Carlisle. Plonk! Back to #10 position and the play-in.

Feels like the Dubs are having a lot more trouble kicking into that extra gear that they've always been able to turn to in past seasons. The third quarter dominance has been missing, and they keep losing games where they're leading with 4-5 minutes left.

Probably related to the defense being worse than before, and maybe the starters being older?

Expand full comment

Yeah. GP2 and OPJ also made a difference. GP2 would have been great to lock down Nembhard

Expand full comment

It also helps when all 5 guys on the floor are locked in playing at the same level. We had the luxury of throwing guys like Iguodala, Livingston and other savvy vets that rarely makes mistakes out there during the peak years. We don't have that anymore.

That's my read.

Wiggins would have come in handy to clamp that kid. It's very rare someone will blow by Wiggins repeatedly

Expand full comment

Not having Poole in over DDV to close could have helped them with that as well, although maybe at that point it was too late

Expand full comment

So scouting report must have been crap. Probably said that Nembhard is a scrub. By the time we caught up, he was in rhythm and full of confidence
