Per ESPN Brooks was suspended this year for hitting below the belt: “Another of Brooks' ejections this season was for striking Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell in the groin area during a Feb. 2 loss, which also resulted in Brooks being suspended for one game.”
If they don’t suspend him for this after he was suspended for the same thing THIS YEAR then it would really underline how it’s the Draymond Rule and nobody else has to worry about it.
Since he hit the sainted LeBron James and actually connected (unlike Draymond) I imagine he will be suspended.
Sure, they probably will… but I still think they shouldn’t. Brooks suspension last year was because he actually broke a guy’s arm with his dangerous play. LeBron is fine.
Do fans at Chase still cheer the team with “Waaaarrrrioooooooors!” I don’t hear it as much as in Roaracle. Those Dubs getting very dangerous: they kept a high scoring offense under a 100 without two top defenders!!!
I hope they come to their senses and don’t suspend Brooks. It’s unwarranted. But they’ve put themselves in a tough spot. Dumars gonna have to go on a media blitz to explain things all the time now, lol. Also hoping Dray gets to call out Villon Brooks for not even being worthy of the league letting him into the Draymond Rules Dynasty.
Serious question: is Dray gonna come out seen as a victim at the end of this? Would be hilarious… Embiid kicks a dude in the groin… a thousand guys taunt each other… Brooks punches The Best Player On The Planet (TM) in the nuts… and we’re barely halfway through the first round… and only Dray gets suspended?
This is exactly the kind of crap I was calling out in my last few rants about the suspension. Even Doc Rivers called it out before Sixers-Nets Game 4 started.
Color me shocked if they don’t suspend Brooks though. 🙄
Also my favorite line of the article:
“Brooks' reputation is anything but clean. He's widely considered to be a dirty, antagonistic player; basically Draymond Green, only not as good.”
If the league doesn't suspend Brooks, Dumars and co have already "justified" it by saying that Draymond playing up to the crowd during the review was a significant factor in the suspension. Now, I think this is BS because it doesn't seem to have any past precident that "entertaining the crowd" should lead to a suspension, but the league has made it clear that this can be their aliby in any suspension discussion that doesn't involve a player egging on the crowd.
Oh man, if the Dubs can lock in and play consistently, I am feeling more and more optimistic about their chances. Everyone is injured or flawed, the top seeds all look very mortal.
My gut says if they can beat the Kings, they are going to the Finals and they’ll be playing a run-down Philly. My gut might be a homer, but not one of these teams has been intimidating to watch. Maybe Denver? IDK.
Lakers are gonna be tougher to beat than the Kings. Lakers has had the best defensive rating since the ASB thanks to AD and Vanderbilt.
But first the Warriors will need to win three more games against the Kings. Sacramento will not go down without a fight, especially in their own arena.
I also think the Lakers are scarier than Phoenix. KD, Booker, and CP have had to average 44, 44, and 39 minutes per game respectively against a Clippers team missing their two best players, because the Suns have zero depth. I also think the Warriors can beat Phoenix at their finesse midrange game. The Lakers present size mismatches that could wear down the Warriors over time.
But overall I agree - if we can get out of this series, I think we have as good of a shot as we did last year after round 1.
Fair. Healthy AD and LeBron should never be counted out, and they get to the line scary often. Might be the first playoff team ever in a series with more points from FTs than baskets.
The concept of the Suns worries me more than what I’ve seen on the court. KD is a beast, CP3 is a bottomless bag of sneaky bullshit and Booker has so much firepower, but they’ve just looked underwhelming. Ayton is tofu, and they have NO depth, whatsoever. Let KD get 40 on 20 second iso possessions, make Booker work hard to get his 30, and shut everyone else down.
Easier said than done, I know, but they are making the corpse of Westbrook look good. That team is vulnerable.
Well, given that they've barely lost in the Durant era, I think one has to at least take them seriously. I do think there's a better than 50-50 chance that at least one of CP3, Durant, or Booker will be hobbling by the conference finals. But who knows?
Looks like they held on, so now the Lakers are up 2-1. I don't care who gets the next one, but eventually, I'll want them to deadlock 3-3 and have to fly back to Memphis to decide it.
It's in that game that I want LeBron will summon a great performance and defeat the Grizz single-handedly in double OT, dunking Dillon Brooks in the hoop to celebrate as the clock runs out. The league will review later, and subsequently call the F2 that should have been called on that play. But they'll call it on Brooks for sweating on James' hand while getting dunked, and he'll have to sit out a game at the start of next season.
I like where your heads at. Another CA series would be pretty rad, travel wise. We take it for granted, but the fact that Eastern Conference teams usually play the entire playoffs in the same time zone, and often within a two hour flight of each other, vs. teams having to fly out to Minnesota or Memphis, is a kinda crazy advantage when it comes to rest.
That being said, much as I want these upstart Grizz put in their place and humiliated, I’d prefer to shut up the damn Lakers fans and Lebron zealots. Plus I don’t want the NBA to start getting their hopes up for a Lakers/Kings rematch and all the storylines that can sell.
I felt last year that the Grizz were lacking maturity in the coaching role as well as on the court*, and nothing I've seen this year has done anything but reinforce that.
*Steven Adams is a class act but he wasn't on the court that much against us last year and he isn't on it now
I think we can't really compared "was it worse than Embiids" anymore. Embiids was nearly as bad as you can get (without Malice in Palace level), and deserved an ejection, suspension, pretty much anything. So every other call in comparison is going to seem unjustified. I guess they didn't suspend Embiid because he's an MVP candidate, then it backfired because he was hurt anyway.
As for Brooks, he had zero chance getting the ball (unless LeBron is a ghost), so I don't have a problem with it. Play stupid games, get stupid rewards.. is that the saying?
I think there are certain rules, like leaving the bench, throwing things at the crowd, etc that the league seems to enforce uniformly on literal definitions without any application of subjectivity. Unfortunately for Steph, throwing your mouthguard into the crowd is one of those.
Yeah, but throwing a mouthguard into the crowd is an auto-eject. Apparently the league didn't make it clear that trying to end someone's future children is one too.
I’d expect that Nutcracker to be a flagrant 2 but it isn’t one for everyone who commits it, if Draymond or Brooks do something close to that it’s auto ejection. Only to people with “history”. So doesn’t Embiid have “history” too? That guy racks up Flagrants like how he racks up 40 pt games.
We already knew Dillon Brooks was a 'nutwhackjob.'
And I despise CantstandyaLebron even more after writhing around in fake pain after the jab.
Compare this whole thing to 2016 man
Missed this last night. Great read to start a gameday!! And catch up on all of the comments.
Amazing article. I feel safer knowing you’re out there. You guys are putting some cocky joy out in the ether and it’s spreading.
Warrrrrriorsssss!!!!
Did NOT know this!!

So that’s why the team plays so badly on the road? Loons failing at his pictures?!?!

Hard to imagine them not suspending him here.
But really, they shouldn’t… imo.

Oh they definitely do, we made sure of that in Game 3!
I’m gonna hurl something if I have to hear Mike Brown passive aggressively talking about the refs again…

Diet Coke Draymond. Lighter in every sense, especially in the rings department
Also with some key ingredients made in a lab to approximate the real stuff
More like Diet Cragmont, if anyone still remembers that.
Wow. Talk about a blast from the past.

Let them put this in writing… instead hidden in list of generalities.
Oh man, if the Dubs can lock in and play consistently, I am feeling more and more optimistic about their chances. Everyone is injured or flawed, the top seeds all look very mortal.

You mean minutes per game, right?
Hah yes minutes per game. Points would be a lot more impressive.
(Corrected above).
Lakers are the only team that worries me
Fair. Healthy AD and LeBron should never be counted out, and they get to the line scary often. Might be the first playoff team ever in a series with more points from FTs than baskets.
Phoenix doesn't worry you at all? They do me.
The Suns/Nuggets series should be a good one.
Both are really good teams
They're the scary teams in the West rn for me. The flip side of being in this dog fight is we get to duck one of those two
Agreed
Looks like they held on, so now the Lakers are up 2-1. I don't care who gets the next one, but eventually, I'll want them to deadlock 3-3 and have to fly back to Memphis to decide it.

Taylor Jenkins is such a jerk (watching his post-game interview)
You know what kind of a person he is by the way his players act on and off the court. It is absolutely a reflection of him.
I felt last year that the Grizz were lacking maturity in the coaching role as well as on the court*, and nothing I've seen this year has done anything but reinforce that.
*Steven Adams is a class act but he wasn't on the court that much against us last year and he isn't on it now
We knew from last year
what he saying?
Downplaying Brooks' ejection and acting petty as usual
Too many knee taps on his players not called
Lol
Anyone think the Grizz are going to re-sign Brooks for 23-24?
They need to. Who else do they have on the roster who can hold Lebron to 40?
Man, the lakers are rough to watch play. They rep LA's acting guilds hella hard
Austin Reaves is such a ridiculous foul baiter.
We need one of those on the dubs
Poole working on it
LOL.....Hachimura gets called for a tech for an "unsportsmanlike reaction" to what looked to me like a dangerous Flagrant 1 by the Grizz
From Koncar yes, Roddy did nothing wrong though.
Totally agree
Ehh Grizzles aren't doing anything to win the game and the whistles are closer to fair than other games, the ugly man's stupidity notwithstanding
Oops didn’t know we were over here. Repost from other thread:
how does embiid stay in a game after kicking claxton’s balls and villainbrooks(whom i hate) gets flagrant 2 auto ejection for an on ball nut play.
Lebron seem to have lost 5-6 inches on his vertical since his prime but still has elite leaping ability.
Grizzlies are better without Brooks and are also more likeable without him.
I think we can't really compared "was it worse than Embiids" anymore. I guess we want fairness but we really can’t expect that in the NBA
tbf Brooks' swipe was not really going after the right kind of balls...
Embiid absolutely should've been ejected
I don’t know where the ball was but at least a ball was being dribbled by Lebron at the time rofl.
Yeah Embiid definitely shouldve been ejected.
let's say if he was reaching for the ball he has slower reactions than my grandma lol
lmao
But but Steph gets ejected for mouthguard throws all the time. He is the perennial MVP.
I think there are certain rules, like leaving the bench, throwing things at the crowd, etc that the league seems to enforce uniformly on literal definitions without any application of subjectivity. Unfortunately for Steph, throwing your mouthguard into the crowd is one of those.
