Oh wow. Apparently Klay Thompson still has plenty of value left if you were to ask Pat freakin’ Riley and the Miami Heat. They apparently have just signed him after he asked for a buyout from the Dallas Mavericks after two snakebitten seasons there.
It never felt right seeing Klay in a Dallas jersey after he and the Warriors couldn’t figure out how to keep him, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green together for their GSW careers. There was some fleetingly memorable shootout specials he had against the Dubs as an enemy, but Dub Nation could never ever get behind the Klay as an opposing villain angle.
It was more like seeing your best friend and roommate move out after a decade to go live in a new condo that he later found out was built on radioactive swampland. You still wanna just say, “Hey man you know you can always crash on the couch here again right?” but their pride would never let them.
He was supposed to be the missing link for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, two stars who had just won the Western Conference championship in 2024. Klay was supposed to be that floor spacing and veteran leadership that could get that squad over the top. Instead the Luka trade and Kyrie’s injury left Klay trudging alongside Cooper Flagg’s rookie of the year campaign, far far away from championship glory.
It would have been a real shame to see Klay finish his career fighting for relevancy with an unsteady Dallas team. Instead, he finds his way to an old rival of the Mavericks’ in Miami, where he joins the giants Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Also, he gets to reunite with Andrew Wiggins, the guy he won a 2022 title with in the Golden Empire.
I for one am thrilled that Klay gets another crack at glory, as the suddenly very stacked Eastern Conference can push Miami into the shortlist of contenders alongside Philadelphia vying to knock down the champion New York Knicks.
What are your thoughts on Klay teaming up in Miami? Does he make them an official superteam now?
I feel nothing. All he's gonna do is hold them back. I just hope he can handle the slander when they bench him in the playoffs cause he's ass 🤭
