Quick rant: hopefully it's informative.

A lot of people (including some reporters who I'd expect better from) don't seem to understand why the Dubs got DLo in the first place if he was a bad fit. Here's a dumbed down breakdown of the Warrior's situation with regards to the current CBA.

1st: The Warriors were nearly capped out with just their guaranteed contracts: Steph, Klay, Dray, Loon, Rookies, that's it. Once you hit the cap, the only players they can sign have to be on minimum contracts or they can use the MLE for a slightly larger deal. No new stars.

2nd: The Warriors got themselves into luxury tax territory by re-signing and extending their own players to bigger deals (except for the time we got lucky and the salary cap got huge enough that we could sign KD outright). Our payroll was huge last season. One of the goals of the front office is to keep the possibility open that they can get another star to fill the slot of KD's salary in that equation.

3rd: The Warriors did NOT sign DeAngelo Russell. The Nets did and then we traded KD for him. If KD walked for nothing, we still can't sign any stars because of my first point.

4th: So Wiggins' contract does hold some value in being a placeholder for a real star that we may trade him for in the future. I think there is no chance that the FO currently sees Wiggins as the piece that gets us to contend for another ring. We can get value from him by raising his stock in the eyes of other GMs and waiting for a star to become available for trade.

It's a risky bet but it could be a shortcut to the next championship squad.

Agreed. I would add that not only did the cap get huge, but Klay, Dray and Steph were on stupid contracts. That was the epitome of stars aligning

Honestly, I disagree with the premise that the Warriors think there is no chance that we keep Wiggins long-term. Sure, Wiggins is never going to be a star, and will always be overpaid for his contract, but Steph+Klay+Dray+Looney+Trade Exception+Wiggins can definitely turn out to be a championship roster, especially if we pick FA signings well (and, in a developing Paschall + Smiley + potential first-rounder) we can get a decent bench. If he improves, especially on defense, he can play a hybrid Iggy/Barnes role, where he can play the 3 and function as a backup ball-handler.

100% agree on the point about the cap, though. That's why I think avoiding the luxury tax was so huge this year, because we could be spending as much as like $170 mill w/ 3 max contracts + trade exception + Dray's contract + other salary filler, and with the repeater it looks closer to $225 million. I feel Lacob's willing to spend money but the $225 mill might turn even him off.

I might be wrong about keeping Wiggins but I think it has to be plan b. It helps that we are a preferred destination so it's not a big stretch to imagine a disgruntled star asking for a trade here. Beyond that, we even have some nice picks now that could be packaged with Wiggins to a team that crashes out of the 1st round or has some cap space to burn. Beal is a great target. Aaron Gordon could still be gettable or even Vucevic. Steven Adams? I dunno, just spitballing now. What matters is we are still in those conversations without necessarily having to deal Draymond or a Splash Brother.

I think you have a point that this roster could become a contender with the right additions including our picks. It really does resemble the pre-KD Warriors with the exception of a missing Igoudala. Yet another path forward. We're not dead yet by any means.

They’re only trading Wiggins for a star if the star is actually more like a fringe all-star. Trades for disgruntled players, e.g. Kyrie, have still been pretty expensive for the receivers of said malcontent (obviously Thomas is now a scrub, but that wasn’t the consensus on him then). And there would be a bidding war on players that were exemplary enough to really move the needle. It’s not clear our assets are enough, even if the player wants us.

Of course, if Wiggins improves significantly is a big caveat, but I don't think it's impossible.

Other possible paths to a championship:

1. It's a miracle! Wigg is really the Canadian Michael Jordan.

2. Player development. One of the rookies or a cheap free agent signing turns out to be the next Pascal Siakam.

3. Draft a star. Our odds are actually decent on this one. The 2021 1st rounder that we got with Wiggins could be clutch. It's only top 3 protected and 2021 is predicted to be the fabled "Double Draft" when both 1 and done players and high school graduates are available.

We have a short window before the "Original 3" start getting past their primes and we have to rebuild for real.

The more I think of it, the better the 2021 pick sounds. I don't think the Wolves are a playoff team, especially with their lack of defense and poor players such as DLo + Towns. Off the top of my head, the Timberwolves will probably finish behind the Lakers, Clippers, Rockets, Mavericks, Jazz, Nuggets, Warriors, Grizzlies, Pelicans and Blazers. Spurs, Thunder, Suns and Kings have reasonable shots of finishing over them too. So, the Timberwolves, despite having a unicorn in KAT, could find themselves at like the 23rd or 24th best record in the league, and give them the 4th or 5th pick overall.

Of course, KAT + DLo could thrive, or the Wolves could even try to hold onto the pick and push themselves towards the bottom 3, but there's a very real possibility that the pick becomes something good.

If I'm correct we have two first round and two second rounds in that draft. If it really ends up being the double high school special, we could be cleaning up in it about as well as anyone.

I’ve been watching Wiggins highlights to attempt and make myself feel something. Nonetheless the rest of season is gonna be as unpredictable as the beginning. Should be fun.

This is a good take.

Alright! We are starting to get some of the salary details rolling in now.

> Ky Bowman and Juan Toscano-Anderson signed three-year deals with no guaranteed salary in 20-21 or 21-22. Both deals will partially guarantee for $200k for the 21-22 season on 7/15/21.

> Marquese Chriss's contract with Golden State is guaranteed for $800k next year, with a full guarantee date of 7/15/20, league source tells @earlybirdrights

Ok, so only Chriss has guaranteed money next year, and it's only $800k.

Warriors keeping all options open and are really just filling in the roster holes so they can make it through this season

We got Jeremy, not Jannero Pargo. I'm not too high on that pickup but it's just a 10-day so I guess it can't hurt.

Lol sorry I'll fix it now.

It took me like 5 years to stop calling the team the New Jersey Nets after they moved to Brooklyn

I meant to say Jeremy Pargo has been doing well in Santa Cruz, and maybe they thought he deserved a 10-day. He's an old guy!

I’m predicting Norvell will go for at least 25 in his first game against his old team.

My biggest hope for Sky Bowman is that he can learn to make better decisions and moves on drives. I don't mind him not taking a lot of jump shots, especially because he has a defensive fire, but I feel like I've seen him bungle too many trips to the hoop.

So it looks like we'll get 3 picks in 2020's draft (our first because of protection, and Dallas and Utah's seconds)

and 4 picks in the could-be-stellar 2021 draft (our first, MIN's first assuming out of top 3, Denver's second and MIN's second)

Four chances to pick another Paschall. Wow, I won’t switch off my TV after first round’s over again

I know Anthony Slater put out a tweet about the Warriors signing Zach Norvell to a 10-day, but I haven't seen any other confirmation although I think I heard something on a podcast. Do you know if that's a done deal yet? Should be interesting to see what happens to Santa Cruz tonight now that we have taken Pargo, Toscano-Anderson, Smailagić and Bowman.

I tried to confirm all of the contract details, but Norvell was a little hard to find. As far as I could tell, it is finalized.

Here's a tweet pointing out that he is the first kid who went to the Warriors basketball camp that ever signed with the team

and then that Slater tweet you referenced

Was unclear who the tweet link was about but it appears to be Juan Toscano-Anderson, which would make sense since he is from Oakland.
