Okay, I opened a post-game memory wipe thread. God have mercy on all of us

Looney needs to develop a hook shot or something

Expand full comment

Jordan Poole starting to look like an NBA player at least?

16 pts / 7-13 FG / 2-5 3pt / 8 assists / 4 tov

Expand full comment

Yeah, he is, and I'm really surprised. I was saying over and over wait until next year to judge but it looks like we won't have to. If he played the way he did at first this year, and played this way next year, he'd have a lock on MIP.

Expand full comment

To me, he still looks pretty unplayable. He's not a good shooter or defender at all

Expand full comment

Not saying he's looking like a playoff rotation guy now or even a 20+mpg guy (when the team is healthy) right now, but unlike Jacob Evans I feel like I've seen some flashes of potential in Poole.

And /shrug about the defense. Don't except rookies to look great there, and hard to isolate his defense when the entire team sucks ass at it right now. That's something to scrutinize more next year.

Expand full comment

Poole getting blown by when he's the on-ball defender is an ongoing problem. That definitely isn't helping the team's defense.

His playmaking has been a serious contributor on offense though and his shot is way closer to acceptable now than it used to be...

Expand full comment

/shrug

Again, I'm not gonna wring myself from the defense of a rookie, especially one on a team with a massive amount of player turnover (both from last season to this season, and within the season itself), composed of fringe NBA players, and not in playoff contention.

Interestingly, ESPN's DRPM has Poole in the positive at 0.94 DRPM, which puts him 3rd best on the team behind Bowman (1.58) and Green (1.18)

Expand full comment

Eye test says he's one of the biggest difference makers we have on offense right now since he started playing point. Creates a lot of opportunities even if most of them end in clanked/airballed open threes.

Expand full comment

My eyes tell me Bob needs to find another point guard if we want to compete in the playoffs.

Expand full comment

Obviously he's not a good player on a playoff team. But looking better than the rest on the court can also be true!

Expand full comment

Also, outside of Draymond's ejection shortened game, Poole's -4 plus minus is best on the team, with Chriss being the next guy at -13.....yikes.

Expand full comment

Top players:

1: Paschall

2: Poole

3: Lee

HM: No one

I don't think I'm gonna put Bowman in the HM, because he had 7 turnovers and was -30 tonight.

Expand full comment

Poor Bowman kept getting switched onto AD, and I will say this: he tried hard, and he didn't rack up fouls in that situation. But that's about the best that can be said about that.

Expand full comment

How about Tank Commander?

Expand full comment

We only scored 9 points in the 4th quarter and 26 points in the 2nd half. Damn, that's super bad.

Expand full comment

I’m actually happy curry didn’t have to try and carry this team all year

Expand full comment

Think we all are

Expand full comment

Hey, why does Marv Albert still have a job exactly?

Expand full comment

So who are we getting rid of and who are we keeping for next year ?

Expand full comment

The keepers:

-Paschall

-Chriss

The “TBD”

-Poole

-Bowman

-Lee

I don’t see the rest coming back. Not included are the guys that were on the team prior to this season.

Expand full comment

Oh, meant to add: Toscano could be nice. He's shown real flashes, but it depends on if he can stay above that magic 3pt %.

What about Smiley? Do you think he's gone for next year or just forgot to put him on the list?

And Bender has proven that his offensive skills are not just bent, busted, and broken. Dude shot .386 in his lone full season, and that was his lone season (of more than 10 games) where he shot over .30 from 3, shooting a very nice .366.

HTF you gonna be a 7-footer who shoots .386?!?! He's supposed to be a ball-handler, and...what, he can't dunk? Never gets to the rim? Never drives? I just...I'm baffled at him.

Expand full comment

Probably bring Wiggins back too :D But I agree with this list. Honestly it's been hard to see Bowman's upside lately, though.

Expand full comment

Poole is safe if he keeps these numbers up.

If Lee can show hustle and have more 15 pt, 5 reb-level games, he'll be safe. But I dunno if he's got the consistency, because while he shows these flashes that make you go HOLY SH*T! one moment and then goes back to being Mr. Sydel Curry for the next 10 minutes.

If Ky can 1) learn mental discipline on defense and 2) get out of his own head when shooting and bring his 3pt up to >31, 32% and his FG to > 43-44%. But his real issue is either his discipline or his BBIQ. He takes these terrible shots; his shot form looks okay but his mind's breaking his chances of missing. Then the careless turnovers and defensive lapses.

He may be a guy where all you can say is there goes a young man with a tremendous future behind him.

Expand full comment

Actually with the way Bowman is playing I don’t think he’s safe either. Kerr seems to like him though. We will see.

Expand full comment

I like bowman's defense I like him as a 3rd string But a guard who can’t shoot is tuff

Expand full comment

Bob definitely needs to put backup point guard on his shopping list. Well only if we want to win a playoff series.

Expand full comment

I think tuscano would fit nicely next year and if poole becomes consistent on the one thing we drafted him for (shooting) he would be helpful is handles and passing have been good

Expand full comment

I dont think there's a single wing on the active roster tonight I want to see with significant minutes next year.

Expand full comment

On the positive side, we've officially secured our 1st round pick this year!

@anthonyVslater:

Hasn't been in question for months, but...Warriors, with this loss, have officially protected their first round pick. They now instead owe Brooklyn a 2025 second rounder.

23 turnovers. Yikes.

I think I just saw four consecutive plays end on turnovers

Expand full comment

How much leeway are we gonna give Looney this year for being unable to elevate his game without stars around him?

I don't expect him to become an All-Star or anything, but he has a 37.3% TS% in his 18 games so far....

Expand full comment

I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt, but it's been painful this last few games watching him get plenty of good shot opportunities and clank every one of them.

Expand full comment

Part of me is just hoping his nerve injury has taken him completely off track. His shot has looked horrible though.

Expand full comment
author

100% leeway for Loon and Dray please

I mean. Just give it to em. They've for sure earned our trust

Expand full comment

how much has his mysterious injury affected him is the real question. how healthy is he and will he be able to be healthy going forward

Expand full comment

Yeah, they've been very vague about his whole injury situation.

Expand full comment

On the bright side I really like Toscano-Anderson’s play. He plays the game the right way, even when the warriors are down by 20. Wouldn’t mind him back next year.

Expand full comment

He has looked dependable and smart. One of the higher BBIQ players on the active roster, I think. And he's a solid enough cutter and defender, I feel like he could soak up plenty of minutes for the full squad next year.

Expand full comment

I'm cool with giving him a two-way

Expand full comment

Time to end the Bender.

Expand full comment

Man, he's looked really bad.

Expand full comment

In his entire career, he's never looked anything but horrific. A 7-foot 'skill' player who supposedly has a handle and is a good passer shot .386 in his lone 82-game season. That's like 20% less than it ought to be for a 7-footer, especially one who can drive and (theoretically) shoot.

Run every play for Mulder and Bender you cowards!!

Expand full comment

I’m tired of people making excuses for Chris Paul’s clippers. That team just choked every opportunity they got. No one got “lucky” they didn’t have to play them.

Expand full comment

they choked away a game 6 against the rockets when the rockets had literally given up and pulled james harden lol

Expand full comment

Honestly was excited to watch the players that I thought would be a part of our rotation this year build some continuity for next but have watched them play themselves out of a contract. We traded our one bonafide keeper in GR3 and it doesn't sound like there were amiable feelings towards the organization in doing so. Looney is a keeper due to contract. Only other one playing right now is Chriss. Bowman has absolutely regressed. Damian Lee just tanked himself after getting some guaranteed money thrown his way. There is no one in this roster right now that I am particularly excited for. Next season can't come soon enough.

Expand full comment

Something nice about Lee, he's one of the best 3pt shooters on the team (not saying a whole lot), and he can rebound. But yeah, getting rid of GRIII REALLY hurts when their main needs in the offseason are going to be shooting and perimeter defense.

Expand full comment

>>>>GR3 and it doesn't sound like there were amiable feelings towards the organization in doing so

Source? GR3 will be back unless somebody gives him a lot of money. He is way more mature and grounded than Chriss. We cut Chriss to sign DLee, yet he came back.

Expand full comment

He's said he did love his time here, IIRC, and wanted to come here in the first place.

Plus, he knows this is a business and if we came back and said "Hey, last year we *had* to take the mulligan but this year we want you for <insert market value offer>" I think he'd consider it. Steph and Klay would be back. Wiggins. Chriss, assuming we keep him and he keeps looking this good. Paschall, GRIII, Poole (if his hot streak is indicative of his future) Lee (if his hot moments can be sustained) and of course the unstoppable LeBron Dunker Himself, Smiley.

Expand full comment

That's odd logic, everyone has different circumstances. I do hope you're right that GR3 is lookin to come back!

Expand full comment

You read into the repackaged Shiller article too much. GRIII would happily come back to GSW.

Our 10-day is the most experienced NBA player on the floor right now...

Bleh. The first half was great except for Dray, and except for the Lakers getting 18 FTs.

Dat second half, do. Sigh. Steph cannot come back soon enough.

I might have time tomorrow, this week was pretty packed.

Expand full comment

Also what’s with draymond going in and out of the lineup every game? If he’s hurt sit him until he’s right. If he has multiple injuries just shut him down until he’s good to go. Plugging him back into the lineup every other game isn’t helping with a team that’s trying to find some sort of rhythm.

Expand full comment

I doubt that they're trying to find any sort of rhythm or at least the type of rhythm that may potentially lead to more victories this year.

Expand full comment

There's no rhythm to build when half the team is 10-days and converted two-ways.

There's too much turnover on the personnel.

THANK YOU. EVERYONE OLEASE READ THIS AND CALM DOWN. Yes, this is not a good NBA product but we lost so many guys, Just deal with it like grown men! These are summer league games. So what? Calm. Down.

We are cool, well at least I am.

Please go read the November comments from GSOM. No one is panicking. The biggest issue in November was whether we were tanking or whether we just sucked this year.

The answer now seems to be crystal clear.

I'm just glad we have more than 9 wins. 9-73 would be harder to take than being up 3-1. 😎

Not pumped with the way Damian Lee is playing this season

Expand full comment

Draymond getting thrown out hurt the team a lot tonight. I know the game doesn’t matter, but that’s a pretty good rationale for not losing your stuff. Sigh

Expand full comment

Is it me or it seems like Ky gets his pocket picked quite often?

Expand full comment

I'm surprised he doesn't get more criticism during game threads. I always appreciate his energy, but he's a black hole on offense, no shooting, and defenders constantly jump at him when he's going around a screen to get a pass or handoff, and he often gets beaten. Then on defense, as scrappy as he is he still gets beaten to the rim all the time, and over-helps off the perimeter.

Expand full comment

i mean, he's literally an undrafted player on a 2 way contract. he's not expected to be good, so there's not much point in criticising him

Expand full comment

good point!

Expand full comment

I’m honestly getting real sick of draymond’s shit. Dude loses his temper way too much. It’s getting real real old.

Expand full comment

I watched with the sound off so I don’t know exactly what got him tossed, but if I was to give a percentage for how much that bothered me.... it would be 0%

Expand full comment

How many times has he been tossed this season alone? It’s disappointing because we expected draymond to mature a bit and keep his anger in check. I don’t know if he’s doing this because he doesn’t care in a lost season but it’s still a step backwards.

Expand full comment

As far as maturing, I think Draymond’s been showing a lot of signs of maturing. He is taking young guys under his wing, he is challenging guys, he is coaching while on the floor, he is coaching off the floor. He is the only one on the floor with any championship pedigree (sorry Looney you’re injury/ regression discounts you). I just feel Draymond’s focus is not in the win column. It is the growth between the ears of the young guys. If he shows emotion in a meaningless game, whatever. Kerr can break a clipboard and get tossed just because he wants to go home too. That’s fine. This year is mental torture for people like Kerr and Draymond. They are not used to this. But I believe they see beyond this year. They have a big picture in mind. So if Dray wants to vent let him vent. They have earned the right.

Expand full comment

It's gotta be a bitter season for him, but yeah, he said he'd grown up. He needs to cool it and get his ass into the gym throwing up 3-pointers between yoga/meditation/anger-management classes. Or something. I love the guy, but...come on, your team needs you to lead by example not just emotions now of all times.

Expand full comment

Is it ok if I have an irrational hatred for Charles Barkley?

Expand full comment

Wait, irrational how...?

Expand full comment

That's actually normal. It comes and goes.

Expand full comment

As much intensity as Bowman shows, bad scorers like Rondo can take him to the rack really easily a lot.

Expand full comment

He was abusing Poole too

Expand full comment

Poole definitely a weak defender too... but defense isn't supposed to be his strength.

Expand full comment

Oh no not Poole

Expand full comment

What happened?

Expand full comment

Slipped on a puddle of sweat. Went straight down, lost the ball out of bounds, had to go to the locker room. Officially sprained his ankle but had it wrapped up and came back to play the next Q.

Injuries are the worst part of basketball, but even worse when they happen in meaningless games. At least Poole's appears to be minor. Worried about Bowman though.
