Why won’t teams let each others fight, why did the Grizzlies assistant hold Brooks down. It would’ve been better than a Paul brothers fight.

Expand full comment

Had to go see what you were talking about. Brooks made a dirty play on Mitchell trying to punch him between the legs...smh

Even if we were to make a trade right now and land someone dreamy like Poeltl, I honestly believe it still won't make a difference and magically snap us out of this funk. I don't think it's talent we're lacking right now even though any team could always use an upgrade. It's the coaching or maybe guys aren't responding to the coaching. The theme of this year has been our lack of execution and the fact we can't seem to do it consistently. Something is just really off. Is it the lack of continuity? Guys playing well one game and they get hit with a DNP-CD for the next week. I know the motto is stay ready and we've done a good job at finding those guys in years past but the truth is most guys in the league needs consistent reps to build towards something. The current formula isn't working. Not anymore.

Father time is starting to make his mark on Klay and Curry? Kinda feels like they are still trying to play like their bodies are 25 years old, at least with the shots they are trying to take on offense.

As for defense, I think a lot of it is them being smaller at the wings this year, which gets emphasized without a viable rim protector to play. No rim protector means everybody has to help hard inside on penetration, which means lots of long closeouts. But we are playing lineups with 3 or 4 Guards in them, so those long closeouts don't do much because it's small guys closing out.

The defense has been absolutely dogcrap this year too. I see a lot of undisciplined plays from guys and that includes our vets. Isn't Ron Adams part time only now? No wonder why.

Expand full comment

Ron Adams is still there. Part of it is a personnel issue. Dubs had more vets last year too, where Mike could throw out various defensive schemes throughout a game and the Dubs knew how to execute. Also, Dubs usually had players who could do multiple things, this season a lot of this team is only a positive on one side of the ball. Add that to Kenny Atkinson coordinating the defense for his first time..there you go.

No one is guarding this year though. The top defensive rating this year is at 109. I believe Mike B's team is ranked 21st in defense.

Expand full comment

No Ron no Mike.

I think losing Ron full time hasn't been talked about enough. This is the first time in years we look borderline incompetent defensively.

Kerr has said it many times, but not done anything effective about it: the team hasn't found an identity. The lack of team D is incontestable evidence to me that it's attitude as much as talent. Once every two or three games the team turns it up a notch and dominates with D for a stretch, and I sit on my couch yelling "yeah!" and then wondering for the next few games why they don't do that again.

Are we.... just not good ENOUGH anymore?

Expand full comment

Even Kerr said as much

Expand full comment

Yes: Draymond punched the f*** out of Warriors Mojo and instead left behind a bumbling stumbling team, or poole, or whatever

Seriously, How many more games need to lose to get a chance for Wembanyama ?

Since game 2 of this season they have show that they are a mediocre team - not sure if we were ultra hopeful that some switch will turn their championship pedigree on or whether the players and coach thought they can round the corner at a moments notice - neither is happening and in the process they have likely sigificantly stunted wiseman and moodys careers

I wonder if Lacob is ready to call it quits on his 2-timeline dream because Nothing changes unless he says so

Perhaps it’s because I’ve staked my entire basketball career on playing defense and learning the nuances of the trade that watching Wiseman’s defense hurts my soul.

I’m so frustrated right now.

It’s Penny Hardaway’s fault🤫

Id be okay with us losing if we got a young rebuilding team. But dam it really sucks losing when you got the Goat Shooter on the team. This don’t make sense. Blow up the fking two timeline bs. Fk the youth movement trade all of them beside JK.

Expand full comment

The supposed playoff closing lineup of Curry-Poole-Klay-Wiggins-Draymond has had a negative net rating all season.

Trading the youth for rando veterans that won't be playing in crunchtime anyways isn't solving everything, though I do think a playable rim protector would really help in the middle parts of the game right now.

Expand full comment

Of course it would solve a lot given as this roster is pathetically weak past Kuminga. Dubnation seriously needs to get over its insane "vet mins have to be perfect otherwise they are not worthy of replacing a young player even though most of our youth blows" mindset

And just because they are a vet doesn't mean they'll be more playable.

And I think the complicating matter is that the Warriors don't want to trade for a rental. They would be giving up both the youth and the potential salary slot, so they really want to make sure the player they target can fit in right away.

Further complicating trade matters is the Grizzlies own the Warriors 2024 1st round draft pick, so the earliest 1st they can trade is 2026.

Expand full comment

That is not the playoff closing lineup, JP rarely closed games in playoffs last year, subbed for GP2, Looney, I believe even OPJ sometimes. He doesn't close consistently this year, being subbed for Donte, Looney and recently in the Raptors game for JK. Steve always makes adjustments and will do what he believe it takes to get a win in the playoffs, even if it may hurt a feeling or two. Like in Game 4 of the Finals.

but we are losing games largely because we blow leads with our veterans - Draymond klay all losing quality - they have been playing the same game for the last 10 years and not adapted and improved. Steph is the only one who is changing his game suit the needs

What the H.E. double hockey sticks is it with Kerr? He has a guy capable of scoring 20+ but It appears that he ordered the rest of the team to NEVER pass the ball to Wiseman in the low post. There were plenty of opportunities. I don't care how much he loves his motion offense, switching things up here and there might keep the opponent off balance not to mention generating a few 3s if Wise can pass out of the post when the double comes. Even in garbage time, other than the one oop from DDV, Wise might as well have been invisible.

Expand full comment

I would love to see JW get some passes and make some plays, but others have pointed out that if the pass isn't perfect he can't do anything with it, and as for him passing out of the double, a) they're not going to double, and b) he hasn't shown any passing chops. He is just too raw and is never going to get the PT on this team to improve. I had hoped he would get the run to do so this season, but it clearly ain't happening and despite some early flashes of promise, he does not seem any better than the year before last.

Expand full comment

He'll never get better if he doesn't get reps. Garbage time is the perfect opportunity for that. Even if you don't want him to stay, treating him like this is ruining whatever trade value he may have. They have JW out there playing in fear of making a mistake when what he has to learn do is learn to play with aggression. Not to compare the 2 as players, but look at the difference in body language between JW and the Joker. Being tentative is a recipe for failure.

Expand full comment

He did not score well from the post last year.

Expand full comment

There was a play tonight when he couldn't score over KCP I believe..work in progress.

Expand full comment

You mean last season? He didn't play last season.

Expand full comment

Season before. But he didn’t score in post last year either :)

Expand full comment

Actually he did. He scored 11.5/ game in 21 minutes and almost all of it was in the post.

Expand full comment

I don't think Steve has told them to freeze him out, it looks like Ty for example is scared to throw it in the post for fear of a turnover. I think he passed to him a few other times and one ended up in a jump ball. Steph threw him a pass, that ended up picked off. JP had a nice outlet pass to him early in the game.

Expand full comment

Winning ball is played with aggression. Playing from fear is the same as playing not to lose...guarantees that you will lose.

Expand full comment

Wiseman is annoying af though waving for the ball every time he is clogging the paint. He doesn’t deserve the ball if he doesn’t defend well or rebound.

Expand full comment

Waving for the ball when thinks he's open is his job. The problem is that the rest of the team ignores him.

Expand full comment

The thing is he really wasn’t open every time he was waving his hands. He’s not in position to catch the ball cleanly at times when he did it.

Time to trade while the value is highest!!!!

Bundle him with Steph. That bum had 6 TOs, we'll never get more than a 2nd rounder for him unless we package him with JW.
