Dubs need to study how OKC handled Memphis. Giddey had a really nice game. Dang rookies!

All five Kings starters scored in double figures -- even Tristan Thompson.

Cheeze has a long way to go to match the legend that is garbage time Mulder.

Mulder gave us competent regular season minutes.

[shaking with pain as I resist the urge to call out his off ball defense]

You've seen Chiozza's defense the past 2 games lol? I'm hardly comparing him to a defensive stopper here.

on a bad team

Last year was not a bad team, especially the last 1/3 of the season

In non-Wiseman Steph minutes, it had the net rating of a 60+ win team. It was pretty similar to this team too (mediocre offense, incredible defense). Obviously this team is significantly better, but last year's team was definitely a good team.

The biggest difference is that this year's team is not mediocre on offense. And has a much better bench.

It still amazes me that a few seemingly small upgrades on paper can improve the offense so significantly. It's not like we brought in some all-star (not including Klay for the moment). Improvement by Poole, improvement by Wiggins, GP2 going from non-factor to factor, Draymond turning it up, replace Oubre/Bazemore with Otto/Bjelica/Iggy. I guess when you add it together that is worth an all-star's level of production, but maybe better since it's spread around.

Yes, far more shooting and Wiggins has taken a step forward (or is playing in a more optimized role at least). Plus, this year's edition has Klay Thompson coming back (furiously knocks on wood).

Chiozza's pretty far from that too. If he was 6'3'' like Mulder (and that's tiny too!), maybe it'd be a discussion. And his dribbling the ball around before prematurely picking up his dribble to pass to an open non-shooter doesn't bring the value that Mulder's 40% from 3 (on nearly 10 3PAs per 36 minutes) brings.

Expand full comment

We could have had Mulder on a two-way, right? I'd much rather have brought him back than watch the Cheese man dribbling aimlessly on O and getting abused by bigger players on D.
