Game 6: GSW 137, POR 122. Steph drops career high 62, temporarily saves legacy
Oubre hit a three!!!
In-Game Notes
KD lost to WAS?? KD NEEDS TO JUSTIFY HIS LEGACY NOW
Wiseman apparently told to never jump on defense for any reason. Probably good strategy with the lack of centers
GSW mixing in a bit of early traps. POR countering by letting Nurkic roll to the rim and bully
Head Tap for Wiggins. Gets grabbed on the cross screen, foul. POR fouls a lot. Their D will probably keep them from being a top contender.
Flashes of the dream. Dray and Wiggs with active hands knocking ball away in the paint. Then Oubre-Steph three man split, Dray almost finds O. OUBRE WITH THE JUMPER!! how
Why is the number next to GSW larger than the other number
On the break, haha I think Dray yelling at Steph to either come get a handoff, or to get the pindown from the trailer.
Dray: TRUST THE OFFENSE STEPH / Steph: you don't know how the first games went man, I can't love again
I like GSW trying to push POR to take 2s. Keeping POR from bombing them out of the game.
Steph with the first real "I will mix you up and you will like it 3" of the season. I think POR ran the GSW three-man split right back at us, but Dray takes the charge...
What, how does GSW not have the worst DRtg
Haha how did Steph go to the low post and get a layup between 3 Blazers. I've called the POR D soft inside but that was ridiculous
This is probably the largest lead (sadly) of the year, right?
Oubre goes OVER the screen thank you my man and bothers Lillard on the layup
I like that... Baze in the post, tries to feed Steph, then the surprise spin post move to draw foul
Bazemore, the God of Chaos. Good chaos so far
Kevon, oh that travel. That cost a sure 2, which is big when you're only scoring 60 points a game.
Oubre with a great strip on the Melo post spin move.
Steph was RACING to get off the 2-for-1, the only time he is truly alive
Blazers disrupt either Head Tap or Motion Weak by overplaying the center swing. Reset to high PNR fo Wiggs. Great drive into Kanter, misses the bunny.
Baze taking control of the 2nd unit offense. Playing under control actually.
I thought Wiseman would come in with 2nd unit with Wiggs, but maybe due to the ankle, he's going to be matched with Steph?
GSW trap McCollum, he gives it up to Melo who doesn't exactly attack fast, GSW gets away with it.
Hey Baze and Damion hit back to back 3s. I thought that wasn't allowed?
Baze with the gorgeous play, crosses CJ into the next county, but misses the layup
Head Tap, but Wanamaker gets to zipper, Wiggs posts. Sometimes GSW ran that variation for Steph with KD.
Nurkic gets the switch on to the small, time to work in the post!! Unfortunately, the small was Draymond.
Update: revenge dunk, next play
Damn, Nurkic beat Wiseman on the jump ball. James are you going to take that??
More of the dream. Steph insists Wise step up to set the screen, good roll and POR D makes a business decision not to contest the soaring Wise dunk
I don't know if GSW will win, but at least so far it's not been embarrassing. Good effort.
More of the dream. Wiseman jumps out, but Dray rotates behind him to Nurkic and Oubre flying in with the block
What's funny is in 2016-2019 GSW did not run the vanilla Split Action very much because you can beat it with organized switching. But it's back, possibly as a simplified offense, and OPOR has forgotten how to defend it. It's like the league lost its immunity.
Are they piping in a recording of "Waaaariors"? Uncanny valley there
Looney I think messed up the spacing on Steph's drive. Steph wanted to BBQ Nurkic.
That Dray to Oubre -- I know this can't be right -- feels like the first fast break bucket of the season.
Steph's no-guilt time, 2-for-1 time. Like No-Diet Friday. He gets a cheap Harden type foul.
Oh Kelly, donβt you know this is Stephβs one indulgence? Let him have the last shot man
Stephβs legacy is safe for now, but he could easily screw it up in the 3rd quarter. If he has a bad second half, then he was carried in 2013 by David Lee and the 2015 title was due to Barbosa. Sorry, those are the Twitter rules
Iβve heard of high screens, but I think Dray set that screen for Steph about a quarter of the way before half court
POR is doing something specific to counter the perimeter trapping... I think itβs just to get it to Nurkic on short roll and he alleyoops it. But a couple of them have been very ugly oops.
Then the Dray oop to Wiseman who barely seems to jump
Oh Steph... with the heat check hook pass lob to Wiseman. Nope.
Draymond with the perfect fake 3 lob pass to Steph. SOLD THAT SO WELL
That is the dream. Overplay the entry pass, Wise will jump over anyone small and dunk you into the basket
Is that a flagrant? CJ definitely elbowed him but... itβs the NBA
Update: a beautiful loop to a fake handoff.
Come on TV, I was just seeing the play Kerr drew up. Looked like Oubre looping along the right wing...
Itβs probably good for the game to not allow players to elbow someone hard when they go up for a layup, but... call it consistently. Also, if you calculate momentum equals mass times velocity, CJβs elbow smash moves Wiseman about one inch
OUbre with the fake handoff!! Thatβs the play I was trying to decipher from Kerrβs board.
I think heβs realized that if heβs within 15 feet and no big is between him and basket, he can 1 dribble and dunk
OUBRE THREEEEEEEEEE. How bizarre
Better yet was the fantastic Oubre D on Nurkic in the post. Maybe Kelly should play smallball Center?
Wait no one has scored 40 in Chase before? It was tougher than I remember last year
EVERYBODY TAP THAT ZOOM CLAPHANDS BUTTON LETSGO
That Oubre putback was gorgeous
Oubre really stepping up to the challenge of checking Dame. Unfortunately, Dame has hit a few impossible shots in his face
Definitely has the feel of a close ending game perhaps with random ending
Paschall is automatic within 15 feet when his heels touch his butt
Paschall does not acknowledge Kanterβs physical existence. He just passes through him, itβs eerie
To be fair, Kanter is doing work on the offensive boards getting back what Paschall gives him
Gah Wiggs, you canβt bail out Kanter with a 22 foot jumper
Kerr with the MJax offense. Get Wiggins mismatch with CJ in the post and let him work. This is an okay offense for the second unit.
Excellent play, Dray pretends to miss the pass, it rolls out to Steph at 2 mph, three. Calculated.
The game is certainly in doubt
I like that strong rebound from Wiseman. Lots of loose balls seem to bounce out of his hands
Is Steph... holding his hand to his ear... to the digital faces? DUB HUB LET ME HEAR YOU
Ow I think Kanter gave Oubre bonus elbow on that screen.
Oubre bulldogging Dame, flexes after the TO.
That sampled Waaaaariors is too fast. Someone get a proper sample
Oubre gets fouled by Melo when Oubre slows down to wind up for the megadunk
GSW with the good D adjustment this game with more trapping of Dame. POR still having a tough time handling that.
Now Steph is OBLIGATED to try for 60
Now Steph is OBLIGATED to try for 70
βTake it to the parking lot guysβ
Getting chippy. Kanter shoving Looney.
Curry and Dame having an extended conversation
OH YEAH the good old water treatment in the post game interview
If anyone else needs ways to procrastinate on a monday, watch steph's highlights from last night and just watch how the player(s) defending him react every time... I love watching CJ shrug at the blazers bench like "what do you want me to do with this?" hahaha
Was watching Kerr struggle to respond to why Steph gets overlooked, and I realized that we should pity folks who don't get Steph (and Draymond) because they are two of the most unique players in history and neither one fits into the conventional NBA superstar box. What kind of player is under 6'5" and can score like Steph? What kind of player who can score like Steph is as efficient as Steph? Nobody. What kind of player can score a single point and yet be the second best player on a team (and tied first in importance when it comes to winning)? How easy is it for NBA fans with decades looking at freak giants (and Michael Jordan) conditioned to see excellence that way to overlook Steph and Dray?
We're exceptionally blessed to have both of them playing together and nights like tonight are part of the payoff.
