Fortunately Gui is RFA, so while some team might put in an aggressive bid for him, it's not likely. They would probably only do it to force us to pay more to keep him, and that's a risky game. If they bid too high, they'd have to be prepared for us to let him go and make them pay. And two can play at that game, so it's not a fight worth starting. Warriors' net rating with each player on the court since 12/18/2025 (more than 100 possessions)
+17.9 Melton (1232 possessions)
+7.7 Butler (986 possessions)
+5.9 Santos (1111 possessions)
+4.7 Horford (1018 possessions)
+3.8 Podz (1695 possessions)
+2.3 Curry (1423 possessions)
+1.6 Richard (`1186 possessions)
+0.8 Moody (1649 possessions)
-0.8 Hield (567 possessions)
-3.9 Post (1018 possessions)
-4.7 TJD (408 possessions)
-5.7 GPII (841 possessions)
-6.4 Green (1413 possessions)
-10.1 Spencer (728 possessions)
For some reason, the Warriors' offense and defense have both performed far better than average with Melton on the floor, at least since 12/18.
The Warriors' offense has been at its best with Melton, then Butler, then Curry, then Horford, then Hield, then Santos, then Podz, then Moody on the floor.
The Warriors' offense has been at its worst Spencer, then TJD, then GPII, then Post, then Green, then Richard on the floor.
The Warriors' defense has been at its best with Melton, then Santos, then Curry, then Podz, then Richard, then Butler, then TJD, then Moody on the floor.
The Warriors' defense has been at its worst with Green, then Spencer, then Curry, then GPII, then Buddy, then Post, then Horford on the floor.
Appreciate the research but if I may, net rating is a team stat not an individual stat. These get presented as "in a vacuum this is how this player is affecting the results" but that's not the case. Who you share the court with and who you play against affects this stat quite a bit, for instance I don't think any of us believe that Curry and Butler aren't the two most positively impactful players on the team.
For example, there's a really obvious reason for Pat Spencer's net rating being that low: he's Steph's (third unit?) sub.
The other guys on this list get to play alongside Curry, in some cases for most of their minutes. Pat Spencer + Steph Curry is not a pairing with a lot of lineup minutes together. (Unfortunately, NBA.com's lineups tool does not do a good job distinguishing which "S. Curry" they are referring to. They have either 32 or 16 minutes played together, total. Compare that with Steph+Draymond playing 827 minutes together, and Draymond's rating looks even worse.)
A team's net rating with a certain player on the court is a statistical curiosity in many cases. However, in some cases, it can be instructive.
The biggest problems with the above comparisons is how many games certain players missed and Warriors players relative minutes played against the opposition's best players.
But Melton's numbers sure stick out, and looking at his personal stats, it is frankly not clear to me why this is the case.
EPM, which at least tries to make all of the adjustments you highlight, currently sees the season long numbers this way:
10. Curry
13. Porzingis (98% his Hawks minutes, of course)
14. Butler
74. Moody
97. Melton
143. Post
149. Santos
159. TJD
171 Podz
172. GPII
215. Richard
237. Horford
272. Green
308. Spencer
335. Hield
381. Kuminga
Again, this is just one metric, but it does put Kuminga plus Hield for KP in an at least potentially positive light. Note that my eye test suggests that KP, Post and TJD are ranked too high and Horford too low, but otherwise I would basically agree with the above rankings.
Some other players who are lower that you might expect:
480 (out of 480). Yang Hansen
476. Nick Richards
428. Lindy Waters III
424. James Wiseman
423. Chris Paul
417. Kyle Anderson
406. Walter Clayton, Jr.
386. Ace Bailey
383. Corey Kispert
379. Cam Thomas
378. Chris Boucher
367. Jordan Poole
362. Keegan Murray
345. Daniel Gafford
341. Kevon Looney
330. Bobby Portis
All of the above are ranked lower than Spencer is.
Agreed but current Draymond doesn't feel particularly close to Curry or Jimmy in overall impact. I think the eye test is matching the statistical case, which isn't true for SC/JB.
My eye test says Draymond still can do things defensively no other Warrior can do, like defend Wemby the way he did in our most recent game vs the Spurs. Offensively is a different story.
I've been saying since he first was called up that I could see him as a successor to Dray. Maybe that wasn't just the quaaludes talking. Not the same level of defense of course (Dray's a slam-dunk best 10 defenders of all time), but better shooting.
(it was the ballhandling and driving during his summer league debut that had me slobbering).
If you are talking about the Chase game that Steph attended, that was my first game in Chase and we were sitting right behind Steph and Damion Lee. Fun game!
Santos was a little out of control, but his physical gifts and huge motor were obvious from his very first game as a Warrior.
Well, what little I remember from that summer league was that Gui was wayyyyy out of control :)
But, he could handle the ball, would pass, and while his shot was shaky, he realized it and just went relentlessly to the basket.
In no way was he an NBA player at that point, but just the fact that he could dribble up the court and pass was enough for me to think he might have a future ... how many big wing/small PF sized guys have we had that could do that outside of Dray? JTA is the only one that comes to mind.
Not even just since 12.18, either. By EPM (which generally smooths over small-sample noise and generously factors in priors) he now a rates as the 12th best Warrior, and a slight negative overall.
Curry +5.2
Butler +4.5
Melton +3.3
Porzingis +2.7
Moody +1.5
Santos +1.2
Podz +1.0
Payton +0.8
Post +0.2
Horford +0.0
Richard -0.5
Green -0.5
It's taken a while for people to wrap their minds around the fact that he isn't a big plus on the court anymore, but I think people are getting there (and obviously, the non-basketball stuff ain't great, either, even if he's been mostly on good behavior lately). As a 15-18 mpg 6th or 7th man, sure, he can still be nice. But the notion that he's any longer part of a "Big 3" with Steph and Jimmy has been pretty silly for a while now.
On a more positive note, looking at the top 5 guys on the list and pondering them as a Someday Starting 5 is pretty titillating, not just because of their aggregate positive but also because it *seems* like an absolutely ideal hoops fit all around. Of course, who knows if we'll ever see it, given Melton's contract and the health question marks surrounding all of them except Moods. But IF...
I've said this before but I expect Draymond to pick up his option for next year, play it out, and retire. He said repeatedly at least a year or two ago that he just wants a couple more years. He has chronic back issues, and it's going to get harder each summer to prepare for another season. The Warriors are trying to clear the books for '27-'28, and while Steph can get an extension if he wants it, they are not likely to pay Dray big bucks again. I think he's one more and done.
In addition, he probably has a promising future in the media to look forward to.
Where is this big payday coming from, though? The other teams are seeing what we are, and are fully aware that Draymond's symbiosis with Steph has been a big part of his effectiveness.
I think he does pick up his option, and the following year, maybe gets a much smaller one or two year deal from some other team to basically train a young team (a la Udonis Haslem)
He's earned over $10 million from endorsements with Nike, Converse, Subway, Mercedes-Benz, et al. He also has significant income through his podcast.
He owns a $9.6M mansion and a $7M penthouse (per the link above).
He has said he doesn't want to coach. He also has said he wants to retire as a Warrior. He could change his mind but he hasn't commented otherwise that I've read.
So if we're talking vet min of approx. $3.3M, for which he has to stay in NBA game shape, given his back issues and deteriorating performance, vs a solid media income and continuing to work his investments, I doubt a Haslem-type position would be worth it.
IIRC, Green was top 75 Actual EPM just last season, so his drop this season has been precipitous. Note that he has been on plus on offense only when paired with Steph and huge minus otherwise this season.
But he has also suffered a big drop off on defense.
In 27.3 minutes per game, 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 threes,1.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks against just 0.8 turnovers and 1.8 fouls per game
51.2% field goal, 46.8% three point, 65.0% effective field goal, 68.7% true shooting, 2.2 assist to turnover ratio
per 36 minutes:
19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.5 threes, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.6 blocks against just 1.0 turnovers and 2.3 fouls
It is highly unlikely that Moody ever obtains burn the house down capability as his catch and shoot is just so much slower than Klay's who was pretty much in a class of 2, himself and Steph. The good news is that Moody knows that and chooses his shots accordingly.
While it would be lovely for Moody to be an all-time-great shooter, he doesn't have to be to be a worthwhile contributor for the Ws. I just wish he would be consistent. We need him to be good a LOT.
He is pretty consistent. Guys who rely on 3-pointers are inherently going to seem inconsistent on a game to game or even month to month basis. It's that way for anyone of his archetype.
He rarely makes mistakes, his defense is almost always good, and he has been very healthy.
... and that's why Gui is best coming off the bench ... changes 'the energy' of the game. He can do that in a few minutes, or 20 minutes if needed.
This is funny, when Steph accidentally received a pass from Jokic.

Yeah. Maybe don’t do that so much.
Draymond, Horford and Melton are all questionable for tomorrow.
We gonna start LJ, Malevy, Pat, GP2, and Gui? With Post, Williams, and Richard coming off the bench?
Williams and Cryer are out but Malevy should be available since he's not listed.
If that is right, and the questionable don't play, then by my count the Warriors only have the minimum 8 players able to suit up.
I'm guessing 2 of Melton/Draymond/Horford play.
Horford doesn't play both games of a B2B so do we see him against the Pels or do they hold him back tomorrow and play him vs the Grizz?

BREAKING: Utah Jazz starting center Jusuf Nurkić will undergo a surgical procedure on his nose Wednesday that will sideline him for the remainder of the season, league sources tell me.
Is the nose job injury-related or purely for aesthetic reasons?
Has to be injury-related - there’s no salvaging that face aesthetically.
I didn't realize it would be that difficult to get Draymond's finger out of it.
As my little cousins used to tell me: you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick Nurcić' nose.
We have a lot of work to do in the offseason but locking up Melt and Gui should be high up there on the list.

Food for thought: Draymond currently has an estimated net worth of approximately $90 million per https://bolavip.com/en/nba/draymond-green-net-worth

Moody's last 17 games
As someone who's been historically hard on Moody, it's good to see him potentially having turned a corner.
In order to give Moody some props, here are Klay Thompson's stats from 2018-2019 on 34 minutes per game:

Moody currently lacks Thompson's high end burn the house down capability, but if he can consistently produce like this, he'll do, I think.
It is highly unlikely that Moody ever obtains burn the house down capability as his catch and shoot is just so much slower than Klay's who was pretty much in a class of 2, himself and Steph. The good news is that Moody knows that and chooses his shots accordingly.
... and Dame?
While it would be lovely for Moody to be an all-time-great shooter, he doesn't have to be to be a worthwhile contributor for the Ws. I just wish he would be consistent. We need him to be good a LOT.
He is pretty consistent. Guys who rely on 3-pointers are inherently going to seem inconsistent on a game to game or even month to month basis. It's that way for anyone of his archetype.
He rarely makes mistakes, his defense is almost always good, and he has been very healthy.
