NEW YORK, Feb. 12, 2026 - The NBA announced today that it has fined two teams related to the management of their rosters for recent games.
The Utah Jazz organization has been fined $500,000 for conduct detrimental to the league related to the team's games against the Orlando Magic on Feb. 7 and the Miami Heat on Feb. 9. During those games, the Jazz removed two of the team's top players, Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson, Jr., before the beginning of the fourth quarter and did not return them to the game, even though these players were otherwise able to continue to play and the outcomes of the games were thereafter in doubt.
In addition, the Indiana Pacers have been fined $100,000 for violating the Player Participation Policy in connection with the team's game against the Utah Jazz on Feb. 3. Following an investigation, including review by an independent physician, the NBA determined that Pascal Siakam, a star player under the Policy, and two other Pacers starters, neither of whom participated in the game, could have played under the medical standard in the Policy, including by playing reduced minutes. Alternatively, the team could have held the players out of other games in a way that would have better promoted compliance with the Policy.
"Overt behavior like this that prioritizes draft position over winning undermines the foundation of NBA competition and we will respond accordingly to any further actions that compromise the integrity of our games," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. "Additionally, we are working with our Competition Committee and Board of Governors to implement further measures to root out this type of conduct."
This will persist until they change the incentives--maybe an adjusted version of the 'Gold Mine' idea (rank teams for the draft based on their win percentage after playoff elimination). But as long as they reward tanking, teams will tank.
500k and 200k are a drop in the bucket for these teams. It will not deter them from tanking. The only way to stop tanking is to do away with the practice of rewarding them in the draft picks.
Yes, it's ludicrous. Teams are looking at potentially increasing the value of their franchise by hundreds of millions of dollars by drafting the next superstar. Given that incentive, who cares if you have to pay 5 or 6 million in fines?
Half of the money goes to its foundation NBA Cares, while the other half goes to its NBA Cares community partners. Some of those partners include the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, UNICEF, and Share Our Strength.
I heard the NBA Cares foundation is naming their new, massive HQ the “Draymond Green Center” in recognition of his significant “contributions” over the years.
I thought the amount escalates pretty quickly, next one is $1M and after that is $2M or something like that. Still not a lot for a Billionaire, but maybe enough that they notice it.
It is actually nothing for a billionaire as the better draft pick could return hundreds of millions of dollars to the value of the franchise. Lacob and Guber paid $500m for the Warriors. Steph Curry turned it into a $10B asset.
You could be more charitable and just move their pick to the end of the draft, or even just out of the lottery.
Richard Jefferson proposed something like soccer. Once you’re eliminated from the playoffs, your losses count as wins and your wins count as losses in draft position.”You want a good pick, go play hard and earn it.”
The loss of a draft pick is an actual punishment with some teeth. Too bad it's used so seldomly, could be a better deterrent if teams thought it could actually happen to them
14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 made threes, 1.4 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks against just 0.7 turnovers and 1.7 fouls per game in 27.1 minutes per game
47.2% on threes, 61.5% on twos, 69.4% true shooting, 12.2 average Hollinger game score, +3.0 box plus/minus, +18 points
It is also the best 15 game stretch of any Warrior this season other than Curry or Butler as measured by either total points scored or average Hollinger game score: https://www.sports-reference.com/stathead/tiny/BGzBB
I don't get people complaining about Moody. By any metric you can find he is at least an average NBA player, both on offense and defense, on an average NBA contract. Given the punitive structure of the NBA luxury taxes that's a good player to have. No organization can field 5 all stars in their starting rotation.
Note that the Warriors were 28-27 at the all-star break last season, having gone 3-1 heading into the break since Butler arrived and with Curry healthy.
They are one game ahead of that pace this season, despite having gone 2-4 over their last 4 games with Butler out for all 6 games and Curry out as well for the last 5.
Basketball Reference predicts that a 13-14 record over their last 27 games will be enough get them the 8th seed, and the Warriors have 12 of their last 27 games against tanking teams (if you count the Clippers and Bulls and one more if you count the Hawks).
Basketball Reference also predicts that the Warriors will need a 18-9 record over their next 27 games to have shot at the 6th or 7th seed. That would be a far tougher feat. Even if the Warriors were to win all 12 games against the tankers, they would need go 6-9 against:
Celtics at home on 7 days rest
Nuggets at home on 2 days rest
Lakers at home on 2 days rest
Rocket on the road on 2 days rest
OKC on the road on 1 days rest
Minnesota at home on 2 days rest
I think the Warriors will need to win at least 3 of these 6 tough games (including the Lakers game) to have a legitimate shot at getting out of the 8th seed. If they got 0-6 or 1-5, they might be better off not even trying to move out of the 8th seed.
6 game road trip starts on the ides of March
Knicks on the road on 1 days rest
Celtics on the road on 1 days rest
Pistons on the road on 1 days rest
Hawks on the road on a back to back
Nuggets on the road on 1 days rest
On the final 5 game homestand before closing with the Kings and Clippers on the road:
Spurs at home on 2 days rest
Cavs at home on a back to back
Rockets at home on 2 days rest
Lakers at home on 1 days rest
If the Warriors somehow manage to go 18-9 or better over this stretch, once again, nobody (except maybe the Thunder) will want to see them in the first round. But that is a huge if.
And I am totally fine with rest and the 8th seed.
If the Warriors can win one road game against the Lakers/Suns, then I would like to see them try to punch the Spurs with a 100% healthy and well-rested Steph, Melton, Moody, Santos, Porzingis, and Horford all playing 30+ minutes each.
But if the Warriors lose the first play-in as either the home or the road team, I would rest Steph, Porzingis, Melton, and Horford the next game and pray for an unlikely lottery ball. I realize that this would be a highly unpopular move, but IMHO it would be less painful that watching the Warriors go all out to win that game then (if successful) try to follow this up by bringing a tired squad into a series against the Thunder.
Why should we count the Clippers? They don't have their pick. Just because they traded Harden and Zubac doesn't mean they're trying to lose games, and Kawhi has been balling
I don't think they have their pick, either, so you are correct that they should not be counted in the tanking teams in any case. I was being wishful there, especially considering that the Warriors face them on a road back to back.
Sitting the OGs is unlikely for the second play in game is unlikely not just because they're competitors, but also because it will be a HOME game. I can totally see them mail in a road playin game(if they are #10), but that seems unlikely.
These guys are the ultimate competitors. No way they would agree to sit for a playoff game, and I doubt Kerr would ever ask them to sit. Especially not when Horford, Steph and Draymond's careers are nearing the end. They will take every opportunity they can get while they still can.
The penalty sent down from the NBA office would be harsh. They created rules against resting stars on nationally broadcast games, imagine the backlash from resting stars during a "playoff" game.
It’s so weird he chooses to play that rough when he has a really good offensive game! It’s not like he has to justify his playing time like defenders who can’t shoot.
RIght now it looks like it's a 7/8 play-in matchup in Phoenix . If we win that game, not only are the Suns doomed to a 1st-round beatdown by OKC even if they win the 2nd play-in game, but the Warriors get to do the 2/7 1st round series again, this time with (a hopefully healthy-enough) Porzingis vs Wemby.
most accounts from the players themselves say he was was a good guy - I think it is the FO who is mucking it up now! And Steph himself replied to the tweet supporting him!!
> most accounts from the players themselves say he was was a good guy - I think it is the FO who is mucking it up now!
Players will 99.9% of the time back each other up, so this is all as expected and says nothing about how much of this was or wasn't the FO's fault. Also you can be a "good guy" to other players and still do stupid stuff like refuse to play if you're not featured, as has been alleged.
OTOH any competent FO won't ever say anything officially because it'd be received terribly by players around the league. So unofficial leaks and off the record conversations are likely all we're ever going to get.

The Dubs have 9 games against tanking teams(2 SAC, 2 WAS, 1 MEM, 1 UTA, 1 NOP, 1 BKN, 1 DAL). If they can go 9-0 in these and 500 the rest, they can finish 47-35. Calling for 46-36.
The Clippers have no reason to tank, since they don't have a pick anyway. The Bulls I agree might be tanking and that's good for the Dubs. Still think 46+ wins is 60-40.
Tbh, was happy to hear about Cam’s 30+. Keep Giannis happy. Rather he just stay in Milwaukee so we can make actual moves in the summer vs duping the FO into chasing snipes.

Most rebounds from the 2023 draft class:
1. Victor Wembanyama - 1704 rebounds
2. Amen Thompson - 1367
3. Toumani Camara - 1085
4. Brandin Podziemski - 1004
5. Ausur Thompson - 998
6. Jaime Jaquez Jr. - 852
7. Trayce Jackson-Davis - 777
8. Bilal Coulibaly - 696
9. Dereck Lively II - 685
10. Keyonte George - 651
Love that TJD made the list.
Is Podz the shortest one?
Podz and Keyonte are both 6’4”, but George is 20 pounds lighter.
Bucks without Giannis, Turner, Prince, and Rollins rout the Thunder without SGA, Hartenstein, Mitchell, and Jalen Williams 110-93.
Don’t look now, the Pistons are a single game behind the Thunder in the loss column.

Utah specifically was really blatant, almost like they were daring the league to do something. Whelp, they did something…..
I guess it's technically "something" though given the money these teams make it's essentially nothing

Good point. I just found the Zubac move puzzling.
However, I was clearly wishcasting by including them with the motivated tankers.
Also "if you count the Hawks" - the team that dominated us at home recently before Jimmy had gotten injured? Not sure I count them either
I don't think they have their pick, either, so you are correct that they should not be counted in the tanking teams in any case. I was being wishful there, especially considering that the Warriors face them on a road back to back.
Yeah, but now they have JK.
I'm kidding folks, still rooting for him to have a good career.
Don't think the Clippers are tanking. Ty Lue is good at maximizing a depleted roster. If Kawhi is healthy, they will compete.

Your last paragraph scenario will never happen with Lacob, Kerr, Steph and Dray on this team. They are all about getting "a chance" in the playoffs.
I realize that. So maybe they can get Klay back for that one game to help out? ;)
Dino? Is that you? 😉

[NBA PR]: Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been suspended one game without pay for receiving his 16th technical foul of the 2025-26 season
Suns next game is against the Spurs in San Antonio on Feb. 19th
You love to see it
It’s so weird he chooses to play that rough when he has a really good offensive game! It’s not like he has to justify his playing time like defenders who can’t shoot.
I liked the part where we permanently suspended his 2024-25 season
Let's not forget the part where we booted him out of the playoffs in '22. That team was 2nd in the West!
They're good in the West
Also don't forget that time Draymond beat his ass on his podcast

If Curry, Dray and KP are healthy, I think we could easily take the Spurs.
Why Does The NBA Harass Steph Curry THIS Much? | Hoops Reports: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA8lxWgx9kE
I guess cuz they don't want to give him 50 free throws a game so they choose to call nothing for him.
Watching the video I think it's because they went all in on the King Lebron narrative, when Steph really is the GOAT.
Sochan is signing with the Knicks.
Is Kuminga the modern Spreewell? Gotta feed his family, and wanted to strangle his coach
So now we're comparing Steve Kerr to Carlesimo? SMDH

Like I said, a class act.
Steph is always a class act
Thanks!

Wild. I have been a Warriors fan during the Steph era. Blessed beyond.
The Dubs have 9 games against tanking teams(2 SAC, 2 WAS, 1 MEM, 1 UTA, 1 NOP, 1 BKN, 1 DAL). If they can go 9-0 in these and 500 the rest, they can finish 47-35. Calling for 46-36.
I would add the two games against the Clippers and the one against the Bulls to this list.
The Clippers have no reason to tank, since they don't have a pick anyway. The Bulls I agree might be tanking and that's good for the Dubs. Still think 46+ wins is 60-40.
Last year, the seeds had this many wins:
6. 49
7. 48 <-- Warriors
8. 48
9. 40
10. 39
11. 36
If Giannis thinks Cam Thomas is going to help him save the Bucks then maybe I really overrated his ability to 'know ball'
Tbh, was happy to hear about Cam’s 30+. Keep Giannis happy. Rather he just stay in Milwaukee so we can make actual moves in the summer vs duping the FO into chasing snipes.
NBA guys love Cam Thomas, Monta Ellis, Jamal Crawford type of players.
Jamal could fit into a team’s system though.

Way bigger swing, going for KP. I like the attempt
At least, as MDJ emphasized when announcing the trade, they still have most of their assets.

Didn’t have Porzingis being healthier than JJJ on my bingo card.
Don't jinx it, he still hasn't played a minute in a GS uniform.
Tie goes to whoever lasts longer before being ruled out for the season.
If this was a tennis match, we won 3-1
As Fitz would say if this was on the road, "we won the first two mini games and tied the third" unfortunately we lost the only mini game that mattered
As I recall, if you win the first three sets in tennis they don’t make you play a 4th. 😊
Thanks Eric! This means so much to me. ♥️ His fuzzy nuzzles were world class!
