How I feel right now after hearing about Butler's injury: https://derpicdn.net/img/view/2012/7/13/42615.gif

What did we do to deserve this?! Man, the sports gods really don't like the Bay Area sports teams....

Warriors win total on prediction markets has plummeted from around 48 to 43. Barring a trade, I think even that is optimistic.

stickdog's avatar

If only those "personal reasons" had scratched Jimmy tonight.

AJ's avatar

Devastating. Always knew they were trying to thread a needle with how old their guys are, and Jimmy's been remarkably healthy this year (and really good), but one bad break and the whole thing just crumbles.

Don't know that MPJ or Trey Murphy or anyone they could reasonably add (besides Giannis, obvs) is going to change it.

So which way does GSW go? Horrible as a fan, fascinating for the choices.

1. Go all all in. Try to trade Jimmy and or JK plus all draft picks to get someone with impact now. Maybe a big name distressed talent with bad availability and a longer bad contract. A Hail Mary pass. With Jimmy’s huge contract involved, a lot more trades become theoretically possible. With Jimmy’s injury, the contract becomes a very negative value. Impossible to predict if GSW can get anything for it, but they have to call around.

2. Tank this year and start a soft launch of the rebuild.

3. Trade Steph and really start the rebuild. Do this if and only if Steph wants this.

4. Play JK and hope he can level up into the second banana everyone thinks he could theoretically become.

5. Stay the course, trade JK and picks for someone who can play, and hope the rest of the season is like the second half of the MIA game with Strength in Numbers.

6. Other…?

I’m guessing (5) will happen, but so many possible paths, all worse than the ones available yesterday.

4, without any doubt

Personally, hoping somehow someway some version of 5, 4, 1 or 2 materialize, absolutely anything, anything but 3

6. Curl into the fetal position sobbing and asking, “WHY?!? Why God, why us???”

Wow that Jimmy is already ruled out for the season.

Not sure what to say or even think about that.

Luckily, Kuminga is almost healthy! :)

stickdog's avatar

Frankly, I would start Kuminga tomorrow.

The worst that could happen is that he is commands the tank into a very deep draft in which the Warriors own their own first round draft pick. The best that could happen is that he resuscitates his value.

The only thing I would not do is trade away any draft picks or young talent (unless, of course, a superstar you can trade Butler's contract for demands out).

Human Nature's avatar

I would throw Kuminga in, now, and trade him in June

DFiB's avatar

Kuminga would disagree...

Human Nature's avatar

Kuminga is paid 22.5 millions a year to play

DFiB's avatar

Podz, Moody, Richard, Post all about to get thrown in the deep end. They've had a nice time getting settled into a rotation with Jimmy regulating. Now they're gonna have to stand on their own.

Wow everything is now on the table. Feeling gutted for Jimmy and the team. I think he gets traded now unfortunately. The question is who wants him? We may have to unload a few picks to trade him though.

Zoloft's avatar

What value does Butler have now? Expired/injury contract?

ananthd's avatar

For a distressed asset that's making too much money, it's possible like Ja, Zion, AD. Not sure if the Dubs can waive and stretch Jimmy like the Bucks did with Dame.

DFiB's avatar

Jimmy makes the exact same as AD & Giannis... FWIW...

ananthd's avatar

I think it's possible if the Dubs unload all their picks. The Bucks are sucking anyway. May have to lose Podz too I think.

Arnold's avatar

Either trade JK for Derozan so Derozan can try to fill the Jimmy secondary scorer role. Or keep JK and start him in Jimmy's spot.

DFiB's avatar

So... are we still gelling? Very interesting to see what MDJ does now.

Focaccia Homer's avatar

Can the Dubs even do anything.?

DFiB's avatar

They can still trade players and picks... they could even (whispers quietly through tears of sadness)... trade... Jimmy... I wouldn't want to... but it could be done...

ananthd's avatar

Don't they have to trade Jimmy? He's essentially out till the end of his contract. I can't see him returning till next Feb/March at the earliest.

DFiB's avatar

Maybe... but I'll let the FO figure it out in due time...

Gutting. Loved Jimmy on the Dubs but that might have been the last of it

Eric Apricot's avatar

Noooooooooooooo

fotd's avatar

Thanks for sharing. Heart breaking news.

We were rolling…

I don’t want to over-react but if I were management, I’d sit down with Steph and offer to trade him if he wants. Might be best to get youth and picks and start that second timeline for real.

ananthd's avatar

I don't think Steph wants to ring chase. I think he likes the idea of being a Dirk or Kobe more than switching teams because the team is suddenly raw and inexperienced.

Alex's avatar

Well, ya overreacted.

DFiB's avatar

Woah... that escalated fast!

Focaccia Homer's avatar

Hope you have a speedy recovery, JB! Blessed be.

Woof... Who TF hit that with a "Like"?!??!!

SD's avatar

Hopefully Jimmy has the smoothest recovery he can.

stickdog's avatar

This game and one OKC game in April of last season are the only two NBA games in which any team had 24+ threes, 38+ assists, 11+ steals, and 13- turnovers: https://www.sports-reference.com/stathead/tiny/ujubP

Note that the Warriors had more offensive rebounds (9 to 6) shot better from behind the stripe (41.7% to 45.3%), and hit more free throws at a higher percentage than OKC did in that game.

Steph about to do a carry job of all carry jobs. Besting his 2021-22 season.

DFiB's avatar

That's a funny way to spell "Podz"... lolz

NoOneEverGotFired4GuardinSteph's avatar

I assume you mean 20-21 season. But I don't want to put that load on him at this age - couldn't handle him getting injured, too
