Well, if the cunning plan is to trade for a tall 3pt shooter — the kind that will shoot even when the defense is disconcertingly tall — then I reckon tonight was confirmation that we have a very cunning plan. First half was very entertaining though. Worth watching if you didn’t get to it yet.

Tough game. Hawks played well. We had a lull… onto the next.

The one good thing that came bout of that fake comeback: Steph Curry now leads the league in 3PM(141) vs Mitchell(139). If we don't win the title, it would be nice if Steph can get another FT & 3PM title.

Eh id look to pry JJJ away from Memphis before any other possible trade. Problem is you got a ton of fringe teams (warriors and memphis included) that probably think they are a trade or two away from true contention and just a morsel of teams that are either ass or true chip contenders as is.

Itd have to take two of their players for Moody, JK, and one of our 2.2 milly guys to make the math work i believe. OR perhaps 3 of our players for JJJ but wed have to sign Pat. Again not absolutely sure.

Man. that was a brutal second half. I thought they had the game in hand at first. The Hawks kept it close, but every time they tied or got too close, the Dubs re-extended to a 5-10 pt lead. Then at the end of the half, they hit those 3's and took the lead. wtf? Then, the Q3 absurdity happened.

Random thoughts:

3-pt shooting:

Melt still looks great, but didn't have it from 3 tonight. And on a night when Steph didn't have it either, this team just didn't have enough firepower. No one stepped up to fill the 3-ball scoring hole. QP was 2 of 5, which was good, but not enough volume. JB was 2 for 6 cuz they left him open. Al was 1 of 4, and no one else shot it at volume. MM was 0 for 3 in 16 minutes, and no one else shot more than two 3's.

A night like tonight underscores that the Dubs just don't have enough shooting. The stat going around had been that the Dubs have one of the highest shot qualities in the league, but one of the lowest adjusted 3 pt shooting percentages in the league, even with Steph. That's an absurd stat.

I really hope the FO looks at this loss and decides to throw in the extra pick it takes to get MPJ. We need both his volume and efficiency, badly.

Defense and Rebounding:

We got out hustled and out rebounded. Rebounds were only 52-56, but ours were buoyed by that one possession with four ORebs and four missed shots. The hustle showed out consistently in transition. Dubs were not good at getting back in transition often enough. It happened not only on turnovers but also made and missed shots. It was ugly. There were also so many possessions where it just felt like the Dubs were too small and too unathletic. That Hawks team has so much length and quickness. The Dubs don't have that.

Melton:

+18 in 23 minutes when the whole team is negative (except garbage minutes) is insane. I know single game +/- is noisy as fuck, but that's a huge-ass signal. It means the Hawks went on multiple runs when he was off the floor, and the Dubs went on multiple runs when he was on the floor. Unfortunately, it looks like he has a defacto minutes limit of 25 right now. This goes back to the Christmas game vs. Mavs. He's been hovering between 20-25 every game since then. It was 15 per game before that. I doubt Kerr will start him until Celibrini ups his minutes to 30. And the fact that he also has to sit back-to-backs still means that the Dubs need more help soon. MDJ, get MPJ, plz.

JB:

30 pts in a loss. I feel for you, man. One of his most aggressive games so far, but it just wasn't enough with the rest of the roster outside of Steph contributing almost nothing offensively.

The Hawks have long and athletic defenders everywhere, and the only Dubs who could reliably score against them were our two stars. Everyone else struggled when they finally had to go up against lanky, quick defenders across the board.

And I posted this in the previous thread, but Gui did not look good in his early minutes this game. He had multiple possessions where the ball movement stopped in his hands, and he tried to create, then ended up creating nothing or turning it over.

Hawks, Blazers, Toronto, Hou, Min, OKC: The Dubs are 0-10. They definitely have a Kryptonite. Fast, athletic wing heavy teams with size. They don't have an answer. Will MPJ help? He should given the constant Steph overplay they should atleast have another guy with constant gravity on the floor and he is a Klay level shooter.

Not much chance MPJ will help to a reasonable extent - but our great FO will do just that - because thats the only style Kerr knows how to play - instead of trying to get our athletic players to contribute!! Sorry, I am really pissed at how we have dropped the ball on trying the get Steph help and this is fully on Kerr+MDJ!!

Makes even less sense this time! Rams and Bears would have a full week if rest of that was the Saturday game.

You mean that week when the NFL gifted them back to back short weeks which is unheard of.

Wouldn’t complain too much if this was just a one year anomaly but this has been going on for years. How do you have the same NFL team out of 32 be penalized with the largest rest disadvantage compared to their opponents consecutive years (2023 and 2024)?!

This team is so beat up, including two weeks ago. NFL doing this resilient team no favors. Goodell and the NFL can go f themselves.

As I shared on the prior thread, would not be surprised if this happened. Not taking a bow, just stating that it’s obvious that the Niners are not one of the darling franchises for the NFL. At least not since Goodell took over.
