I don't recall ever seeing a situation like Kuminga is in. You're a starter, you get a recoverable injury for a couple of weeks, you play badly, you now sit behind the bench and get zero minutes.
Please note that this post is not for the purpose of arguing whether his situation is merited or not. I am not here to fight that fight again. I have my opinion and I suspect everyone else has theirs.
I'm just asking: what players can you name who have had this go on? We've seen guys preserved for trade, maybe that's it, but usually not a month out. We've seen guys lose confidence and play worse and get benched. But I think the whole going from 25/30 minutes --> to zero minute crash is one we've seen before from Kerr particularly with Kuminga. Perhaps others can think of players who have had this happen, I can't in the moment. Even if you're in the doghouse, you usually get some spot minutes.
I'm not sure this JK situation resolves around Jan 15th, but closer to the deadline Feb 5th(3 more weeks!) JK is not a hot commodity given his play so far. And his contract is middling, tough to get a player that the Warriors want without adding other players or picks. The Kerr JK dynamic is giving me pissed off school master - pupil vibes. The protracted benching last year seemed petty and almost malevolent. I am a Kerr fan; I think he's one of the best communicator's in the league. But in this case, he seems to have given up and not communicating with the player at all. He has decided preferences towards ball movers and shooters and very little patience for slow or indifferent basketball learners and he's deemed JK to be incorrigible in that regard. In this case, I think, Kerr's biases are clouding judgment. A little bit of leeway in his playcalling and some feeding and tolerance towards JK, would have helped him grow. JK is not blameless, he needs to shoot better, handle the ball better and not get lost so much off ball and even defend a little less upright on ball. However, this coach simply has not utilized him to the best of JK's ability.
It is what it is. Hope both Steve and JK find peace after the 15th or the 5th.
Yes it has happened plenty of times but usually with older players.
And calling JK a starter in generous. He's started some games sure but he has never been an every day starter and like Sab said we could be holding him out for "reasons".
Carmelo was benched then released by the Rockets.
AI was benched by Detroit (to the surprise of no one).
Hell the Suns are benching Deal atm.
There's a lot more out there and these are knows players. I'm sure there are a tun of fringe players like JK that this has happened to over the years.
I don't think Kerr is doing a great job. But ultimately this is a front office/Lacob issue. This is not a surprising outcome. JK has never really fit and it wasn't going to change. He should have been traded when he still had value.
Now, not consistently playing Moody after the way last season ended and how well he played the first ~15-20 games is insane.
As a player you need to feel confident. You cannot play consistently well looking over your shoulder. As a coach I try to instill confidence in my players. You don’t do that by playing a guy for a week or two and when he has a bad game or two he loses his spot.
This is the Kerr method. Constantly changing rotations and lineups.
Now the other side of that is the players simply are not good enough to be a permanent top 8 players. This comes into play with this group. They also have way too many guys that are off guards or very small 3’s.
JK obviously should be one of the best 5 guys but for whatever the reasons he just needs to be moved. The most frustrating part of the entire JK Kerr experience is the way he began the season and all that just disappears. Whoof. Incredible. What the hell happened? Did JK just say screw it this ain’t for me,not my style?
So this leaves them with a huge decision. Who to trade with JK to bring back an absolutely necessary big, athletic wing like a Murphy? A Herb Jones.
Now or never because they have zero, absolute zero chance as they are now.
Starting Spencer? Come on. He is a solid back up point, period, at best.
So who do you move between Podz, Hield, MM, Richard? You still have Seth. Hield has been too inconsistent so I am fine with him going.
As they currently are I would start Melton, Steph, JB, DG and QP.
Spencer back up point. Their glaring weakness as a team is how hard it is to fill out the rest of the second unit as a set group. Horford at the 5 is ok but he sits so much. Who is the 2,3,4?
Another question.Say they get Murphy. Who comes out of the starting 5?
I think they need 2 new additions that are top 8 guys with some size.
I havent seen anyone here report on our great Coaches post-game interview - I for one did not have the stomach to hear him - did anybody hear it? What did he say about the blatant foul on Steph not being challenged??
Basketball is a fickle game. Dubs have led in the fourth quarter in all of their last six losses. With a few different turns of events, they could be riding a 10-game winning streak. Such is the NBA.
Yup. Ben taylor, thinking basketball, years ago did a calculation that it would take some 20+ head to head games to account for randomness. Different era but still interesting.
Not ready to give up on Podz. Not by a long shot BUT after the Podz pick in the 2023 NBA Draft all the way to the end, that’s probably going to go down as one of the worst post lottery draft classes in recent history. Even my cult favorites: Nick Smith Jr, Andre Jackson Jr have been not great.
These are the most frustrating. The ones where you change any variable and we would have won. I can pick on all those 3's that failed. But Kerr not calling a challenge on that throw down takes the cake.
The number of calls missed by the officials this game (especially those where they didn't see the defender wrapping up Curry). That isn't an excuse for losing but it is a factor.
I think Curry should sue the league for negligence 🤣. It isn't a missed call if you are always not looking.
I do think these 18 lineups aren't helping. They lead to too many mixups and miscues. I will also say there is too much reliance on Curry to be the savior.
It's hard not to overrely on Steph. He's so spectacular. But I miss the days of a more egalitarian Warrior offense--led by Steph, of course, but letting the ball find the open man.
Ball found the open man quite a lot yesterday, and the open men missed many shots. Steph had no choice then but to try to take matters into his own hands
This is concerning. A Curry-led offense should not be #22 in offensive efficiency, #24 in points scored/game, and #27 in total shooting %age. But it is because our role players are inconsistent on offense. I don't know whether they need a trade to fix this, or whether Kerr needs to stop experimenting with his lineups like a mad scientist, but they cannot get into the postseason with an offense this bad.
Warriors offensive efficiency went up to #22 after tonight's game. But their def. efficiency went to #4 behind the Pistons. Also, the Wolves offensive efficiency jumped from #10 to #7 after tonight.
All of the Warriors played hard. The comback from -12 in the 4th was amazing. But then, no baskets and Minn makes theirs. How can the W's win a game giving up 10 dunks to Gobert. And there are several 7 footers in the league that can do that. Unless and until they solve that problem, they will not make it to the top 6. I love TJD's character and QP's threes, but defenders they are not. And Horford is not the answer.
But getting to -12 sucked. They were up 5 and proceeded to not score for 5 straight minutes, while giving up 17. I know it's a game of runs, but holy cow...

Yeah, I have lost the plot on Moody completely.
My take on Kerr.

Good luck.
At this point I gotta believe it's a collaborative decision between the FO, Kerr and JKs camp. Sit him to avoid injury until he can be traded.
There's too many people who would be screaming into the void if this was just a Kerr benching.

At least the JK band-aid has been ripped off and everyone knows how it ends.
How does it end?
Somewhere else
We ain’t that good 😞
WAGBC?
If Curry is the cheat code in the game, then his whistle is the glitch. I guess you can't have one without the other.
Didn't watch the post game, did Kerr explain why he started Steph and Pat and Buddy or why Will (and Seth) didn't play

Long-suffering readers of my posts already know what I'm gonna say so I'll spare us both
Thank you.
Another recital of Jabberwocky probably won't help. :)
Warriors offense stats:
22 in offensive efficiency
24 in points scored (113.7)
30 in points in paint (41.5)
27 in shooting % (44.9%)
14 in three point % (36.2%)
22 in two point % (53.6%)
22 in total rebounding % (48.7%)

If only we had a DPOY level player that we can slot into the lineup.
The Warriors have to be the best in the league at losing to teams missing their best player
Went from 100% of the votes for Steph to just 83% now 🧐
That's a really bad loss, no excuses for it
