Inspirational verse from Steve Kerr 2023-11-03 pregame on the origins of Kerrball.
When you came in, you were able to orchestrate the play style around the guys, the personnel that you had, and I was just curious if you could think back to that time, what that process was like for you coming in, figuring out how you were going to make these very unique players kind of all fit together in a style that made sense.
Well, I think I was lucky because the players fit the style really played as a player, both in Chicago and San Antonio. So my influences offensively were Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich. And so everything that we did from the beginning was kind of based on those influences.
And it just so happened that Steph and Klay were so good off the ball that a lot of the triangle offense principles that we brought in were directly suited to them. And a lot of the motion stuff that Pop ran in San Antonio really suited our team as well.
And I think the other influence was Mike D'Antoni, spending time in Phoenix in management. I saw the power of playing with great pace. And so we wanted to speed up our team and play faster. And I think that first year we were number one in the league in pace. And so it was sort of good fortune that a lot of my experience was really well suited to the roster. So I'm not sure if I was that innovative, but I know I was lucky. What you said, really small sample size pace.

Such a good first half too. I didn't understand the allowing the Kawhi switch so easily to shoot over Steph. Refs not calling PG for his hacking on Steph. Steve subbing in CoJo for defense instead of JK. Klay not forcing PG to drive on that step back three. The last play with that amount of time?
