I am very impressed with Quinton Post's increasingly good and aggressive play at both ends of the court. He gets noticeably better every game. His confidence has grown to the point where he is demanding the ball and has lost all hesitancy in taking a 3. It's beginning to look like the Dubs have finally found their starting center for the next few years.
12 guys played in the 4th quarter tonight. JK was the only one who didn't sub in for the 4th quarter. He was subbed out at the 6 minute mark of the 3rd, after his normal 3rd quarter stint, and then just done for the night. As others have mentioned, he needs Curry back more than anybody.
"As others have mentioned, he needs Curry back more than anybody." And yet JK had a strong playoff series vs MIN, when Steph was out, though of course we lost the series.
On the other hand, if JK can't play his best basketball without Steph, is he really a star of the future? Wasn't he supposed to be the guy we turned to when we didn't have Steph?
I like JK's progress this season, at least until the past couple of games, but I still don't think he's all that.
A part of me believes that JK has been scouted and teams are sending bigs or long athletic wings to make him uncomfortable when he's trying to drive to the basket.
I appreciate this effort and focus on being on a good role player for the vets to start this year but oh boy this has got to be a nice reality check for him as far as being "the guy" goes
I think JK's still on the trade block. Kerr's given him a chance to show off his skills and he has played pretty well and has probably impressed potential trade partners. But now that the Dubs and JK are struggling I believe Kerr might be scaling back JKs minutes to help the team win as JK has trouble fitting in with the existing lineups. This shorter leash, if it exists, might make it hard for JK to play effectively if he's worried that a mistake or two will land him back on the bench.
Your title doesnt correspond to my experience Eric. I would say 2 1/2 dismal quarters with no thrills tgen jimmy butler said “ its easy and i can just do it myself if no one else did- which wasnt the sane as a laugher. And then i said, given last time they played , they better get the lead to 20 - and they did. ( that doesn’t make a great title either)
In the unlikely event everyone on the team is healthy, this is my quick and dirty preferred rotation. Podz gets the shaft a bit and definitely will play more in real life.
Tried to limit Dray at the 5 minutes. Tried to have multiple POA defenders out there when possible. Closing with what I feel are the 5 best players on the team. It's not perfect, obviously, but an approximation.
Sure, it would take me a lot more time to get it to be perfect, it's just a sketch -- trying to keep guys in for consecutive stretches is hard. No one gets subbed in and out at regular 4 minute intervals in real life.
I've already suggested Buddy needs to be out of the rotation and I'm hoping this is the game that convinced Kerr to do it. Him being the first guy off the bench made no sense.
JK has had some good games. Other than the rebounding, this was awful. Podz was pretty bad until the closing stretch. JK's team defense has regressed, just ball watching and late on rotations. Podz can't guard anyone POA. Only reason defense looked good in the first half was Indiana missing shots (and generally just being a bad team).
Moody got like 7 minutes in the first half, Richard didn't play in the first Q at all. The game turned around w them out there. Not a surprise.
Moody is definitely one of the 5 best players on the team. I do not understand why he isn't treated as such. He's so disruptive on defense. Give him starter minutes ffs.
I think you are right about more W. Rich and Moody minutes would be good. I am not sure about taking Buddy to zero minutes: even though Buddy is in a relative slump. I suspect he still has more gravity due to reputation and he is playing hard on defense and contributing in ways other than from 3. Long-term he is stil someone who can help them win games.
I do not understand why JK varies so much: sometimes he seems like he is playing so much better -- driving under control, taking his time, and making good decisions. He looks like he has matured a lot during these times --- then sometimes his drives seem to fall back into old habits.
Like others, I also saw JK had some good passes today and some nice rebounds.
I thought Kuminga’s on ball defense was much better tonight than in the last 2 to 3 games. He was also more engaged off ball and in rebounding that the softball defense remains a weakness so on a hopeful note, he may be trending in the right direction. He also had a couple of nifty passes.
I think both Richard and Moody's minutes are being held back by politics. Moody so the team can showcase Kuminga and put themselvs in the best position come the trade deadline and Kerr doesn't think they can play together, Richard because outright benching vets for rookies can bew a tough pill to swallow and should be handled with care to keep everyone engaged (and we've seen Kerr ease into it before with the Klay benching for Podz)
I think it’s totally emotionally reasonable for Richard to need to continue to demonstrate that he’s better than buddy and that he’s going to gradually eat away at Buddy’s minutes rather than immediately dropping buddy’s minutes to 0.
Also, Will Richard has played the 9th most minutes on the team, so Kerr’s definitely giving him run even if it’s not quite as many minutes quite as quickly as some of us would like.
Somehow, I guess because he's been gone a while and never lived up to the loftiest expectations, DeAaron Fox seems to have become some kind of afterthought.
But he's healthy and coming back to a Wemby-led 7-2 team.
He scored 24 in his return and was asked about what worked, or some other silly journalist question he said, "I mean, I'm good at basketball."
This is true. Opponents, which includes us twice this week, are in a bit of trouble.
OT, sorry if I missed this but don't see it on search: this is just nuts to me: "US sports betting crisis grows as MLB’s Clase and Ortiz indicted over alleged rigged pitches"
with this:"Clase, a three-time All-Star, is alleged to have been given $5,000 for facilitating the rigged pitch,. . . Clase, one of the league’s best closers, was paid $4.5m."
Doing it all is nuts, doing it for $5k when you make 4.5 million? Mob threats?
I haven't seen that in the articles I've read so far. Got a link?
If baseball cares about fan trust with respect to gambling and honest games, they need to come down like a ton of bricks on every player who consorts with gamblers, not just bets on baseball. MLB rules prohibit any betting on baseball regardless of whether it's the player's team. But last year MLB merely suspended Michael Kelly, Jay Groome, José Rodriguez, and Andrew Saalfrank for betting on baseball games not involving their teams. They should have been banned for life from MLB and the minor leagues and banned from entering pro baseball stadiums even as fans. Any player who knows about corrupt players and doesn't report it should be banned too. That's how it used to be after the Black Sox scandal, and it worked, with rare exceptions (notably the whitewashing of the 1926 Cobb-Speaker scandal). To squelch corruption, you have to be merciless. One offense, career over. Otherwise it's just a matter of time before we get thrown games, maybe even a thrown playoff series.
But it seems MLB and the NBA prefer to sell their soul to the gamblers.
Most likely the mob got their hooks into Clase before he made good, after that they own you: more fixed bets or we leak what you did. I pity him, had $26 mil coming over next 3 years which would triple career earnings, and that is gone gone gone.
Also, entirely speculatively, I've always wondered if the Biedrins implosion wasn't some russian mob thing where he responded with if I suck so bad they don't play me, I can't be asked to do fixed shots. This is based on absolutely nothing but just casting around for an explanation.
prison or flip into WPP? it's not like he has a pro baseball career anymore. Plus killing their meat isn't a good long-term strategy for the mob. Dumb kid athletes would be less likely to make the necessary mistake.
The one thing the mob can't let happen is witnesses going to the stand and implicating the Dons. That's why they kill people who get caught. It's a known risk for anybody entering that business... a lot don't really have a choice, so it's a bit unfair to call them dumb.

Yup, competetive, no techs or flagrants on the dubs, that's all I'm asking for. Oh, and I'd like steph back to keep their defense honest. I won't have a cow if they lose by 10 getting beat in 4th quarter.
PHEW....We shoooor needed this one....

Some thoughts:
*I don't think I really want to spend much time thinking about this game. But a win is a win.
*It was 65-65 with 3:30 left in Q3. The Dubs then went on a 42-13 run over the next 12:06.
*We started out with hyper aggressive Post with the first unit. He took 4 of the first 5 shots. I kinda like it.
*JK is in a bit of a funk. I think the name of that funk is no longer sharing the court with Steph Curry.
*Will Richard had 8 FTs. That's intriguing.
*I'm ready for reinforcements. Steph, Melt, and Seth are all coming soon. We're desperate for some offense.

Q1/3
Steph/Moody/Butler/Draymond/Post - first 4
Steph/Melton/Moody/JK/Draymond - next 4
Podz/Melton/Butler/JK/Horford - final 4
Q2/4
Podz/Richard/Butler/JK/Horford - first 4

Steph/Melton/Moody/Butler/Draymond - final 4
Steph - 32

You'd want JK to play Steph minutes, not majority non-Steph minutes.

RIP KitKat.🐾
Podz averaging 25% from three last 5 games
But 39% over his last 55 games including the last 5?
my point is he is in a bit of slump from 3. He is 36% this season. Early days and I assume he will come on back.
I've already suggested Buddy needs to be out of the rotation and I'm hoping this is the game that convinced Kerr to do it. Him being the first guy off the bench made no sense.

I'm nervous as hell for the OKC game on Tuesday even if everybody is good to go. Those dudes have been on a tear and it seems like they're starting to get into rhythm from deep....
The Dubs match up ok with OKC I think.
I’m not nervous at all. The dubs are gonna lose.
10-1 is a pretty good tear. Yeah, underdogs for this one.
I wish I could offer you hope but I am not exactly full of it.
Well, some people say I am
I'll be happy with a competitive game. A win would be great and if any team out there's capable of upsetting them it'd be us but I'm not counting on it. At least not this early version of our squad... maybe 1-2 months from now

We could ask for low turnovers too. We only had 10 tonight but OKC's defense will be a much tougher challenge.
That little 15-minute 49-18 run pushed us from underwater in net rating to #6 in the West (+2.3).
It's still early in the season, folks.
