(free) Explain One Play: James Wiseman Adjusts, Stops Drop, Shows Up Blazers
Just a short while ago, but the rookie has grown quickly.
A list of all Explain One Play articles and videos is at The new Explain One Play index.
Remember the good old days, back when the Warriors had at least one available human who played the center position? Re-live those exciting days which seem like a distant memory.
This video is from the early days of the season, back when the Warriors got blown out by the Blazers trying a drop scheme on defense. Young James Wiseman came through with a new no-jumping show scheme to slow the Blazers and help the Warriors unleash a revenge blowout in the rematch 2021.01.03 POR-GSW game.

I also like at 2:46 how Steph bails out instead of trying to rebound the miss, which drags his defender with him because you don't want Steph beating you down the court and getting an open three. Steph's looking back up the court so he can see Wiseman coming in for the rebound.
Meanwhile I see that one of the Warriors other rookies, Justinian Jessup, is hitting 55% of his 3s in the NBL. By way of contrast, LaMelo hit only 25% in the same league last year. The only red flag I see is that he has 0 free through attempts in 5 games which suggests that he isn't even trying to get to the rim. Then again, Klay Thompson hardly every shoots free throws either.
