Explain: Steph Curry uses the LeBron defense against Luka Doncic, plus many more schemes in Game 1
High Tag, Low Tag, even if it's old junk defense, it's still rock and roll to me
A list of all Explain One Play articles and videos is at The new Explain One Play index.
The big question entering Game One was who on the Warriors can guard Luka Doncic. And the answer was: the whole team defends Luka. The Warriors threw all kinds of different defensive looks to keep the Mavericks guessing and it definitely seemed to throw Luka out of rhythm in the 2022.05.19.DAL-GSW game. We show how Steph Curry used High Tag defense from the old LeBron James battles against Luka, and how DAL tried to counter it. Plus some box-and-one, traps, drop defense, switching, and clever backup defenders. Co-starring Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole. With Jalen Brunson, Dwight Powell, Reggie Bullock, Maxi Kleber, Dorian Finney-Smith.

Great EP as always Eric. Will be really helpful for me to understand how the Dubs use these defenses, how the Mavs evolve (if they do) and how the W’s demonstrate their Darwinian ability to evolve faster.
I just had an inspiration on what to call this series: "Explain Ws" (pronounced "explain dubs") where the Ws is pulling double dub duty to refer to the team and to wins, since you (mostly) post new content after wins. And, as a plus, it's short in character count so you have more space in your YouTube titles.
