A list of all Explain One Play articles and videos is at The new Explain One Play index.

The Warriors had a nice big push in the second quarter of the 2022-10-23.SAC-GSW game to build up a 26 point lead that despite their best efforts, the Warriors could not blow in the last few minutes.

In the middle of it all was a nice, improved version of one of my favorite plays, the Zig Zag play, which let Steph Curry shake free for a big 3 and Kevon Looney rumble down for a big dunk.

Co-starring Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and past Juan Toscano-Anderson. With Domantas Sabonis and Harrison Barnes. Plus Jordan Poole as an Oompa Loompa?

So, I’m not quite getting the problem with Russ taking a 2-for-1 opportunity up by 1. I mean, it’s a Russ jumper, so it’s a bad shot regardless of the game situation. But I can see the logic in the game theory. Wouldn’t you rather your opponent get the ball with 30s left and have the opportunity for another shot instead of letting your opponent take the last shot in a one possession game? Or do you strongly prefer a 3pt attempt or take the shot with 14s left and try for an offensive rebound that forces them to foul?
