With the 15th roster spot the Warriors signed their best on ball defender, best steal generator, and best rebounder, who also cuts off ball and has athleticism that pops even relative to NBA players. And they did that after basically offering him to every other team first.
Also isn't Geddy Lee, the bass player for Rush, Damion Lee's father? Pretty sure I read that somewhere on the internet. Which I would say qualifies him for the list.
So I’m super exited about GPII and have been for some time. I’ve also been wondering how risky a move it was when they cut him this year instead of giving the guaranteed salary. As I understand any team could have picked him up until he “cleared waivers”. Any insights on this process? How good is the intel that someone does or does not have teams that might float an offer?
Putting on my thinking hat (which may or may not be made of tin foil):
IMO, that's why there was all that "Steph & Andre want AB" talk. Preseason production aside, it never made sense for those two guys to come out and say something like that because it essentially meant they were publicly saying that they didn't want GP2. Not only would it seem out of character for both guys, it would've made for an awkward preseason.
So, the plan was always to go with GP2 and AB was a diversion for when they both got waived -- with the Dubs hoping a team in need of defensive PG would bite on AB instead.
Now, why didn't we just sign GP2 outright? They probably didn't know he'd be this impactful... maybe thought he was just a chess piece for certain matchups... good to have but maybe not worth the tax hit if/when they want to sign a buyout and they have to waive him.
The only problem with that theory is it seems pretty disrespectful to Bradley to string him along like that simply as a ruse. I don’t think Myers would do that and especially don’t think Curry and Green would go along with it.
Enjoyed hearing Kerr give Draymond credit for calling him on sulking - and improving. OTOH, can you blame Kerr for sulking the way the Dubs looked in the first 5 minutes.
Still, GPII was fantastic, and it was so much fun watching mostly subs take over in the last half of the third quarter, and again after they took a few punches from the Hornets in the 4th.
This game was really fun to watch especially as the increasing disbelief of, "omg, did Payton just get another steal? He just got another steal" ratcheted up to bonkers levels. Between that and Poole dropping threes like his jersey number had a zero after it, there was a lot to be excited for. It only gets more infectious as the guys on the bench are really getting into it too. You love to see it.
Nice E1P, good explanations of structure and improv.
And while I was watching this, the Thunder have taken the lead over the Lakers! Go OKC! I give GP2 credit for this too! He can do anything! Now if they can just hold the lead …
We have a stretch forward playing the 5 at the top of the key making a pass from the arc to our small power point forward under the basket? I give up, I don't know what basketball is anymore...

How is that even possible????
Maybe we just have poor on ball defenders, steal generators and rebounders?
Don’t forget athletes
#lightyears
Dub Forefathers starting 5
PG Gary Payton
SG Dell Curry
SF Mitchell Wiggins
PF Mychal Thompson
C Wilt Chamberlain
Ok... Wilt as the last one got me 😌

I know him and he does.
I know you were just sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting for that response ;-)
Thank you!!!
But I’m guessing he still has a human dad?
Unless he’s, like, Hercules or Jesus …?
We need a sarcasm font here
Wilt "Porter Sr." Chamberlain 😂

Yea kind of... unless AB was in on it knowing he didn't have much of an offer anywhere else.
Lolakers...
Westbrick bricks the 3 for the loss. How did Lebron think getting him was a good idea
Oh my goodness. I didn’t see this clip when I wrote my comment below. That’s an even more embarrassing lost ball oops than I imagined.

He was more than sulking. He was enraged. But watching the unforced turnover mess the dubs were concocting in the first quarter, he had every right.

O.5 seconds left, Lakers down 3. Desperation “MISS R. Westbrook 28' 3PT”.
Thunder win. Nasty.
21 seconds Left, Lakers down two. “R. Westbrook Lost Ball Out-Of-Bounds TURNOVER (4 TO)” oops.

Over the head of the opponents point guard… it’s 2021 bro!
Looks like the Warriors signed a center with the 15th spot after all.
GP2 is like a micro power forward
So you get a shooting bigs, so your micro PF has space to box out the opponent’s guards who don’t have great rebounding technique? Smart.
Can't wait to take a look. Thank you!
