Was looking at all time 3-pointer list. Did not realize Lillard is number 6. Klay is about to surpass Pierce to be 11 all-time, but he has a whole 164 less games played than Lillard. When all is said and done I think he can probably beat Miller, but might not have enough games to catch Harden and Lillard. Top 5 will be:

1) Steph

2) Allen

3) Harden (may catch Allen in 2-3 seasons)

4) Lillard

5) Klay

Klay is ~850 behind Allen. That's 3-4 more years after this year, and Klay's game is similar to Allen's in that he'll be useful as a "bench shooter" long after he's able to defend at a starter level. Unless he gets injured, he'll pass Allen. I also see Klay having more longevity than Lillard & Haren. I think he'll pass Lillard, but Haren, unfortunately, may have too much of a lead.

Magic beat the Pelicans 101-93.

Expand full comment

Wait... does that mean that the Pels are bad, or really good?

Expand full comment

Just average without Zion. They're probably going through a slump right now.

Expand full comment

They're 7-18 since he got injured. That would be the 4th worst winning percentage in the league. They've been far below average. Zion for MVP.

Expand full comment

Not even average. Sinking fast.

Speculating that Thunder, Pelicans, and now, probably, Lakers won't make it into the play-in. Hopefully Dubs edge out Dallas for #6 spot and Dallas, Minnesota, Portland, and Utah battle it out in the play-in.

Expand full comment

That would be optimistic, but generally I agree. Lakers actually looked pretty decent without Lebron. I still see them making the play-in but think it will be a deep run without the King.

Damn, LaMelo fractured his ankle? Wonder if he's also destined to be injury prone.

Expand full comment

Dr. Brian Sutterer with the injury analysis:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w25jovHk9E0

-Sutterer was surprised that the injury was a fractured ankle, not a soleus muscle (calf) injury.

-Upon first analysis, Sutterer saw that when Ball planted his right foot on the ground, his foot was planted on the anterior portion of the foot. Doctor didn't see any eversion or inversion of the ankle, so it looked normal at first.

-Lamelo was grabbing the front of his ankle at the 1:09 of the video. So Sutterer believes it was an avulsion fracture, which is when a small chunk of bone attached to a tendon is pulled away from the main part of the bone.

-On the second analysis, Sutterer took a look what happened before Ball collapsed from pain at the 3:00 mark. Before LaMelo took a step to his right, he landed on the inside of his right foot and turned his foot to the side, resulting in an ankle eversion. This may have been the cause of an avulsion fracture.

-4:01- Sutterer mentions that LaMelo may have suffered a medial malleolus fracture, which may require a surgery to fix it. If that is not the case, then it might have been an avulsion fracture to a tiny portion of the ligament in LaMelo's foot.

Fractured right ankle tonight and has sprained his left ankle three times already this season. That’s tough.

Impressive. Yeah, it's disturbing that he continues to turn in the negative +/-, but that's also a team stat. If your team is getting killed, it's hard to have a great +/-.

Meh, he just happened to not be on the court when the Hornets coughed up 5 straight bone-headed TOs that led to an 11-0 run. Diallo had a good game and was -11.

In retrospect, i think the plan was to trade Wiseman all along and the happy talk was mostly to keep his value up in trade. The salary that goes with a #2 pick was just prohibitive unless he was a starter and Looney turned out to be durable (knock on wood) against all odds.

Expand full comment

The plan was to have him as a rotation player by his 3d year and test whether he deserved a maxish extension. 18 months lost to injury, on top of college year lost scuttled that plan.

Expand full comment

"All along"... I doubt that. This was supposed to be the season JW stayed healthy, improved at both ends of the court, and became a key part of the bench mob. As defending champs, the FO surely didn't expect the team to do so poorly out of the gate, with a defense that leaked like a sieve on the road. When all that came apart, they had to look at their bottom line and at plugging the holes in their defense (hence, GP2).

Finished with 23 pts and 7 rebounds in 26 minutes and no fouls or turnovers. Scaled to 36 minutes that's 35 pts [Edit: more like 32, but still] and 10 rebounds. -11 +/- but it's a bad team (that just happened to beat the Warriors twice).

That might be his best game yet. Gotta give Wise some credit. He hit a 3 too. I’m especially surprised to see no fouls or turnovers.

From the available video on nba.com it looks like he's playing pretty free and determined... just really too bad we couldn't have got that out of him...

Expand full comment

We didn't play him.

Expand full comment

We did... but he sucked when he played for us. He sucked in his first year when he was thrown into the fire without training... and he sucked again at the beginning of this year. It seems that both times he was thinking too much and trying to play the right way. And then he got glued to the bench.

It seems that in Detroit he knows he's getting his minutes and it's worried about taking a bad shot, or Dray yelling at him, or being called a bust, etc.

LeBron out indefinitely, at least "multiple weeks"... but "hearing a pop" usually correlates to a torn ligament, and is much longer than a "multiple weeks".

Luckily, he has the best physio trainers to help him. When I sprained my foot 3 years ago, it was hell. I still don't have full power in the foot but I am working now with a stability cushion which helps power and balance. Great little tool. I wish I knew about these in the beginning.

Myers has experience playing with the Warriors' team that visits San Quentin every year. I guess he knows the system by now. However he'll be 48 at the end of March so he's going to be subject to the same "No Dunks Ever Again" rule as Methuselah Igoudala.

Igoudala apparently really likes Steph. From his appearance at the Club Shay Shay:

"... when I signed with Warriors in 2013, and you do the press conference, you say what you're supposed to say. PC. I'm coming here to try to win a championship. Nobody takes you serious but...I'm saying to myself, I've met the closest thing to Jesus Christ. Not to put that on him. But I've never seen an individual, he doesn't stray away from who he is in terms of who he is as a person. So you know what you're getting night in, night out. And I can see it. And so I'm thinking, I'm about to go try to win a championship."
