Saw that Ball is at the dunking phase of his rehab. We didn’t get the dunking update on Steph and Wiggs before they came back. Will we get one for Kuminga or Wise?

Speaking of romps and shredding defenses, I haven't seen the look of futility on Luka's face, that I saw tonight, since the last time he saw GPII. I stayed up to watch the Luca-Dame matchup, as Luka ran his mouth, promising he would outscore Dame...DAME took it personally while registering his 4th 30+ successive game. Advantage Dame, 36-15, as GPII frustrated Luka for 15 mins while dropping 10pts, sinking 2, 3pters, from opposite corners, and snaring 4 steals...where have we seen that fine defensive act and critical offensive spark before.... Meantime GPII still helping us, as with that loss, we are only one loss behind Mavs. Playback 2-nite in Portland on a B2B.

Lacob is posturing that he doesn't want to carry big payroll given that he is going to keep the young fellas who will need to be paid. He is looking long term .

Dray is posturing that it's alright. No big deal. I will go play somewhere else.

You can't blame one (if you are doing so) without blaming the other about messing the team chemistry by saying such things.

If we crash and burn this season (bounce out in round two or before), I can see Lacob trying to trade away both Dray (assuming he doesn't leave on his own) and Klay.

If Klay keeps up this run of good play, no way on Earth Lacob trades him. He's back to All-star, samurai Klay (but also including passing and a set of Ginsu steak knives)

mea culpa. I didn't think he could get to this level (mostly because he's been such a knucklehead about shot selection/shooting form since his return from injury). But, it turns out, that's fixable. Hoping it stays that way.

Honest and clear answer. Good thing that he has player option next season and so he doesn't have to worry about getting injured this year and messing up his next contract.

Yeah, and honest question- why should we fret about it? Only thing that matters through the end of this season is that Draymond plays hard. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he will. Sure, he could end up leaving somehow. You wanna know how many crap things *could* happen?

Expand full comment

>Yeah, and honest question- why should we fret about it?

Because our window is irreversibly shut when Draymond leaves and the greatest time we Warriors fans will ever know in our lives is over? That seems like big enough reason to fret about this.

Yeah, to me he's pre-ACL injury Jimmy G and a tad better arm.

I suppose the real test with be next year once there's more tape on him, but hopefully Purdy can take advantage of not being known all the way to the Superbowl haha

True, but let’s give the kid some credit. Somebody’s gotta get the ball to those guys. He’s handled the pressure pretty well, has great instincts, sees the field and makes the right throws often and scrambles out of the pocket better than Jimmy could. Having said that, it was the defense that changed the momentum of the game. I was actually surprised that Seattle scored on them so easily in the first half.

> Alex Caruso: The defensive-minded guard would be a plug-and-play reserve — and closer — for virtually any contender or team serious about making a playoff push. Golden State has been one prominently mentioned rumor. The Knicks, who have been scouting the Bulls closely of late, are another team on which to keep an eye.

I think that if this trade happened, DiVincenzo would be included.

Nooooooo

Why on earth would we trade Donte for him? They’re basically the same player, except Donte’s three years younger, a better athlete, a much better rebounder, and actually shoots the ball occasionally. And has developed a half-season’s worth of chemistry with the team.

I think this is coming from Rohan Nadkarni's piece on si.com, which was purely speculative.

I didn't even think it was worth commenting on when I saw it a few days ago.

Among the other reasons you mention not to do it, Caruso makes almost exactly twice as much as DiVincenzo.

Oops. I see DFiB made the same point below.

Expand full comment

I'm just guessing based on how crowded the backcourt is and me assuming Curry/Klay/Poole aren't going anywhere, at least not during this season. Can they really have both Caruso and DDV with those three and give everyone enough minutes?

I think the idea behind the swap would be that DDV is probably leaving after this season and Caruso is under contract for two more seasons after this one (and Jerome will likely be as well). I'd personally think that with how well DDV is playing, getting another big man would be a higher priority though.

Expand full comment

Well… he’s under contract for a lot more than our FO is likely willing to pay for his services next year.

Expand full comment

Caruso makes under 10 million a season for 2.5 seasons and the last season is partially guaranteed, his contract seems like a big bargain to me.

But isn’t Donte (in taller form) the exact type of player they should be trying to acquire? Right now I think he’s in pole position to be in the playoff closing 5 unit with Big 3 and Wiggs. If we’re entertaining offers for him, we might as well see what’s out there for Loon, Wiggs, Dray, Klay, et al. Which is to say: we shouldn’t be entertaining offers for him.

Expand full comment

I like Caruso but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to trade Donte for him even straight up. This team was lost when Donte was out, and does so much better when he plays. I think there is a decent argument that he's part of a foundational 7.

Jan 14, 2023·edited Jan 14, 2023

Caruso is prob a better defender, but not super substantially, and maybe a better spot up shooter… but Donte is a much better rebounder and playmaker. And he’s been on the team for months, so has better knowledge of his teammates and systems. There’s no reason to expect Caruso to be substantially better, really

Caruso makes over $9M too, so even if one thinks he’s an upgrade over DDV, you have to include other salary, like Moody
