I’m sure he has. People tend to overlook the vicissitudes of the 2021-22 season — both for Wiggs and the team — cos of how it ended. But there was a long stretch between the stellar 18-2 start and the fabulous finish when the team was basically 2022-23 bad, or worse.
For Wiggs, IIRC, after the all-star first half and before destroying Luka and Tatum in the playoffs, there was an extended period in the dog days of Feb-Mar when a lot of Dub Nation were openly doubting whether he was a 16-game player, and musing about potential upgrades (incl. Beal, lol). Wiggs by TS% that season:

If he put up .476 TS over a full month. I think it’s safe to assume he had a couple of six-game stretches within that month as bad as or worse than the one he‘s going through.
Wiggs couldn't make a free throw then. He was like 35% or something crazy from the line. I remember during the March game in Denver, SVG saying the Dubs may have to bench Wiggs when closing games in the playoffs because he couldn't make free throws.
Curry alluded to Wiggs missing early part of camp this season. I wonder if he is still working his way back from the rib injury from the playoff last season.
They had a **7-16** stretch in February-March of that season that dropped them from 41-13 to 48-29. There were injuries involved (to Dray and Steph consecutively) but 7-16 is even worse than “doldrums”! The Dub Nation Chicken Little Brigade had basically 100% buried them as a serious contender by the end of that stretch.
Sharks about to lose their 10th game and their back to back losses of giving up double digit goals. This is by far the worst team I've ever witnessed. They traded away all of their best players except Hertl and Couture and Couture has been hurt and not yet played this season. The new ownership/management don't seem to have a clue as to how to re-wire this team. It could take years, unfortunately.
I rewatched the game, and noticed something (I may have said this before ... if so, apologies).
When Kuminga is shooting, he now pulls the 'guide hand' (not sure what it is really called) off of the ball with a really exaggerated motion. It seems like it could affect your balance, since all of this is happening in the air.
I wonder who made that alteration in his shot?
I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, TBH.
Yeah he's not as hesitant and he's actually trying more jump shots instead of ramming his way to the bucket. Glad he changed that or someone mentioned it to him - wasn't gonna get playing time if he kept doing that as he didn't have counters
On the flipside, tho: I’m sure it’s small sample noise, but if we’re talking MVP bona fides, we also have to note that currently rocking a net on-off -21.1 points, worst on the team after Wiggins. I feel like a net on-off that negative (or anywhere close) should basically disqualify you from MVP by the standard MVP criteria. But of course … Steph over has career has a net on-off of +11.1, so we can be pretty confident his current number will flip around given a larger sample.
This year 3pt%: GSW 37.1% 12th, opponent 32.5% 5th
Last year 3pt%: GSW 38.5% 2nd, opponent 36.4% 18th
Last year we were bad defending the 3, we blamed this on opponents at home getting lucky against us. But we were great at hitting our own 3s. This year we're average hitting 3s, but great at defending them. SSS alert.
Guessing our 3 pt percentage will go up. CP3 (career 36.8%) is 1 for 21 while Wiggs (career 35.3%) is 2 for 13. Take out those two, and Dubs are shooting 41.9% from three this year which is fantastic. Or if they were shooting their threes at their career percentages, Dubs would be shooting around 41.1%.
1) The play where the OKC dribbler (one of the Williamses) loses his dribble and Klay gets fouled illustrates why the OG should be together on the floor during crunch time. First Dray reads the play and switches out leaving Steph to take Holmgren at the 3 point line, as Eric pointed out. Following that, though, Klay recognizes that he's a better bet on Holmgren so he and Steph switch, putting Klay in position to pick up the loose ball. These guys just know the game so well and know what each of them should do. Contrast that to the play where Kuminga let Dort get free and could have put the Thunder ahead if he made both FTs.
2) On the lob to GP2, it was interesting that OKC's Wiggins held his ground guarding CP3 in the corner. He could have helped out sooner after Dort left GP2 to pick up Dray but he was too late to contest the lob to GP2. CP3 is 1/21 this season on 3s, so staying on CP3 rather than helping out on GP2 seems like a bad idea, particularly when hanging on to a one point lead. I wonder if he got an earful from OKC's coaching staff after the game.
Don't we already have 'Young Glove'? This is a very cool take on his Hall of Fame dad who was nicknamed 'The Glove' for his defensive tenacity. I hope this helps.
I prefer Human Cheat Code. Kerr's still learning how to get the best out of GP2 on both ends of the floor and as long as GP2 is healthy, he's going to get serious minutes.
And to think that this guy was so close to giving up the game to take a low-level video position with the Dubs. Thank god Avery Bradley didn't impress in the 2021 camp!
My take away: Ball touching is frowned upon.
So many jokes ... so little desire to be banned from the site. :)
“Rim” should definetly be part of this joke 😬
Has Wiggins ever had a bad 6 game stretch like this, since he joined the Warriors?

…or perhaps it was difficult to stay in normal offseason shape because of the injury.
I've definitely forgotten about the duldrums of that year. Thank you for the insight, Sleepy!

I don't know if I would call his last game bad, they would not have won against OKC without him.
6 game stretch. There used to be a free feature on Sports Reference that made specific searches like this easy. Now I think it’s a paid feature
Western Conference Standings
DEN 6-1
GSW 5-1
DAL 4-1
NOP 4-2
3 teams @3-2
3 more @3-3
So it seems like TJD and BP got at least one day of practice and drills in SC training camp?
Someone needs to edit a love song over KD reacting to Steph's game winner whilst on #NBAHooperVision
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tILZlbXyKdk
“Clear out, he don’t need no screen"
Any suggestions?

No Booker or Beale, KD is basically screwed until they come back. I really like KD and I love his game but I don’t feel bad for him.
I rewatched the game, and noticed something (I may have said this before ... if so, apologies).

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, TBH.
His confidence and percentages seem to be way up (no data, so take that for no data)
Yeah he's not as hesitant and he's actually trying more jump shots instead of ramming his way to the bucket. Glad he changed that or someone mentioned it to him - wasn't gonna get playing time if he kept doing that as he didn't have counters
No idea about his shot mechanics
Steph currently at 55/47/94. MVP numbers if you ask me.
And of course, 55% by the dreaded measure of “field goal percentage” somewhat obscures the fact that he’s actually putting up:
.753 true shooting
.706 effective field goal %
.722 from 2
He’s been otherworldly.

Point God better
60/50/95 would be a lock lol

Last year was the outlier in our defensive performance.
It was the outlier because of pieces didn't fit/work together defensively. Too many bad defenders or bad IQ defenders together
Rawness, effort, and communication problems on top of or in conjunction

We should normalize everyone sitting to their careers not just the negative ones
Great video(s)!
Couple of things I picked up:

Shoutout to yall. Must be a bit tough trying to get a gameday thread, a postgame
Thread, and lately a Explain One Play thread going all in a span of a day and a half
My nickname for GPII is "General Protection Fault." Opponent's stuff tends to crash around him.
Nice video. I didn't catch much of that live ... I was too busy breathing into a paper bag.
Don't we already have 'Young Glove'? This is a very cool take on his Hall of Fame dad who was nicknamed 'The Glove' for his defensive tenacity. I hope this helps.
I wasn't suggesting that others should adopt it. I like my nickname, though, and will continue to use it occasionally. To each his own.
I find the implied 'Young Glove' pun kind of icky (who is loving whom, exactly)?
I prefer Human Cheat Code. Kerr's still learning how to get the best out of GP2 on both ends of the floor and as long as GP2 is healthy, he's going to get serious minutes.
And to think that this guy was so close to giving up the game to take a low-level video position with the Dubs. Thank god Avery Bradley didn't impress in the 2021 camp!
