Check this out: Draymond docked for cursing at a Dallas fan, fan says no biggee, and offers to match $25,000 donation to charity: " https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/35169528/warriors-draymond-green-says-appreciates-fan-pledge-match-fine "

Rehmatullah said the teams were lining up for a free throw attempt, and he said he began making fun of Green's shoes.

According to Green, there were "a lot of name-callings." Eventually, Green turned around and told the fan to "sit down, shut up and watch the f---ing game."

That's a pretty weak reason for a fine...

I actually saw him do it and was worried it would result in in-game tech or suspension. I don't care about his money, though...

Still no reason not to fire Kerr and Myers. Why did it take Kerr 20 games to figure it out? Why didn't Myers pay OPJ and GPII whatever they wanted and go out and get Giannis, Embiid, and Jokic? Sure, the new coach would have had to figure out who was the backup center but that's a good problem to have. Also Guber and Lacoub should sell the team to ownership that won't be so stingy and will sign up for a $1B/year payroll. Seriously, a few wins shouldn't stop deranged, no nothing fan ranting. Anyway, good win but as always the Warriors need to do something about the stupid turnovers.

9.5/10 needs more complaints about why the youngin's aren't playing like Jordan given Kerr played with MJ.

Also, and I understand this is quibbling, but I would like some all-caps stretches.

The whole point of Chase Center is to celebrate all that is glorious, money be damned. And yet I get stiffed on Taylor Swift tickets and have to endure a Christmas of my children weeping at my failure while Moody sits on the bench with those puppy dog eyes, hands at the ready to catch and shoot shoot shoot? Plus the NY state legislature botched the redistricting process and now their 4 flipped seats have given the Disrupticons the House? And the World Cup, which I have made a deep long term commitment to never watch a minute of, is held in a country whose name nobody can pronounce?

In short, what have you done for me lately Kerr and Myers? Fire the bums.

I just thought of a reason not to fire Kerr. Actually four glittery reasons.

Also, I just thought of a reason not to fire Bob. It's called Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, Jonathan Kuminga, Jordan Poole, all somehow under contract ... Sure, we would all love all past good players to be on the team. But that's just impossible. (I do get the sarcasm of your post)

Per Joe Viray, the Warriors have outscored opponents by 11 points per 100 possessions in Draymond's 61 minutes played without Curry.

Shout out to all the Warrior haters who say he's a bum who is only playable in the NBA because Curry carries him.

61 minute small sample theater, tho. We have the full sample of their whole careers if we’re actually interested in their impact isolated from each other. (Dray is awesome, obviously, but 61 minutes is also pretty meaningless).

Thanks for the laughs, Eric! This post prematurely ended my mourning for the USMNT's defeat by Netherlands.

Not to dance on anyone's grave, but I'm glad for the Dutch. The US gets to have everything in sports. Netherlands just gets Johan Cruyff and his legacy, indoor bicycling, and tulips. Plus Femke Bol if anyone knows who she is -- no relation to Bol Bol. Let them have their soccer powerhouse. "Hup Holland Hup!" is I believe the cry.

The celebration audit audits a row of fans, but misses the last dude in the row who, as Draymond is getting the ball -- IS ON HIS PHONE. Never looks up. That there is serious dedication to a fantasy basketball league.

We have unexpectedly received via github some crucial previously unreleased notes from the 2022 summer meeting of owners and league personnel...

"...Discussion of collective bargaining agreement, rules changes. Bob Myers and Joe Lacob announce they will "head outside to smoke a doobie." Very noticeable drop-off in bench celebration quality this year all over the league. Feels like they are killing the positive enthusiasm part to stop the Jason Kidd / Mavs style bench cheating.

Expand full comment

Should have tech’s Dallas twice and ejected the jerk. But bench can stay off court and still celebrate.

Expand full comment

It's actually relevant and not just a bit of a sideshow. The Warriors are a team needing to rebuild team spirit and cohesion. When they can overcelebrate a bit, they can try to undo some of the post-Draymond-punch malaise. I hate that refs are cracking down on it.

This, and it just sucks the joy out of the game more generally. As long as they don't interfere with the opponents' play (a fair foul to call), I don't see the point other than to make the game less fun. It's like the NFL's old obsession with making sure guys' socks were pulled up and their jerseys tucked in. Really?

I would suspect they tweak the rule (or how they enforce it) over time. That's the general trend .... enforce the letter of the rule early on, and then go to a more commonsense approach.

Exhibit 1: When they first added the rule about the offensive player not touching the ball after it goes through the net, they were calling every incidental touch (even ones where the offensive player picked the ball up to throw it back to the player inbounding).

Now they just call it if it really delays the other team from inbounding.

There is a post in the game thread that didn't get nearly enough love (near the top ... easy to find).

In it, AttilaTheHun coined the phrase 'discontinued partying'.

I think this phrase should be considered for a future celebration audit.

And, if there is a way to link to a specific post, I'd love to know it.
