Just coming back to say that I was SEVERELY disappointed that Dallas let the Clippers off the hook and allowed them to advance despite a 3-2 advantage and a two chances to close out the series, the first one at home. I do think the Clips are the more talented squad; I was just hoping the Mavs would send them packing with a first round loss.

Welp, this is what happens when Luka has an off night. Think this one might go to 7

Expand full comment

Oy, what's going on with the Mavericks? They're 3/15 threes tonight so far.

Anthony Davis is hurt again? Yikes.

Expand full comment

Not really rooting for Dallas but definitely rooting against the Clippers. So go Mavs!

If we get 14th pick and minny pick gets pushed back a year do you trade wiseman and go all in these next two years?

Expand full comment

If the return is an All-NBA level wing or mobile big man (Embiid, Giannis, Kawhi), then yes.

If the return is an ill fitting star who plays a position we have filled (Beal) or a non-star (Khris Middleton, Myles Turner), then he’ll no.

Expand full comment

That’s too general a statement to respond to. I agree that the West is there for the taking, but I’m not in favor of giving away JW at a time that he’ll be undervalued by the market. So, what’s the trade? JW and the 14th pick for an in his prime near all-star level player? Who are we talking about?

Expand full comment

Nope. And neither will Bob.

Expand full comment

As John Brown says, it depends. Question is unanswerable without specifics.

I’m also don’t see why whether the Minny pick conveys this year or next year changes the calculus one way or the other.

Expand full comment

If it conveys this year, we could have a chance at a solid rookie who could contribute in 2-3 years, if it's next year we are stretching currys window to late thirties

Expand full comment

It’s one year’s difference.

Pretty sure they’re going to let ping pong balls decide their plans for Wiseman.

Expand full comment

*not going to let, d’oh

Expand full comment

Exactly. If Philly offered Embiid for Wiseman, heck yeah.

I’d only think about trading Wiseman if it’s bringing back a player who can help now AND is young enough be part of the next foundation with Poole and Wiggins.

Expand full comment

Depends on what we get back?

Lakers are in trouble if that groin affects AD's play. They might beat the Suns anyways but they're breaking down at the wrong time. Now they can cool it with the repeat talk like it's so easy to win a championship.

AD= always damaged

What happened?

Sorry, I can not root for any team in the playoffs, now that the Warriors are resting (Curry's fractured tailbone) up for the draft. However it's been real easy to switch interest to the Giants who are --as you are all well aware of--exceeding all expectations. Go Giants!

Expand full comment

I'm not really "rooting" for anyone, rooting against sure (LA X2, NJ) but I still dig watching a lot of the games, they had a Godzilla marathon yesterday so that took center stage. And as a lifelong Giants fan I have not seen a game in a year and a half now. Screw AL style nurfed T-Ball and Screw the Giants ownership whit that Q shit and rape coverups.

And A's! Bay baseball baby!

In Italy a lot of basketball fans go crazy for Luka. Not me, but I will never pick Clippers or Lakers in my whole life. Go Luka

Ten spins of the tankathon.com wheel, just for kicks and giggles...

1. #14

2. #14 and #8

3. #14 and #6

4. #14

5. #14

6. #14 and #7

7. #14 and #8

8. #14

9. #14

10. #14

Blehhh. Clearly, I’m just priming the pump for lotto night, when we pluck #1 and #4...

Expand full comment

I tried it once and then stopped. Got #3 and #4. I'm looking for the 'save' button.

Expand full comment

On my first spin, the Warriors got the #1 and #8 picks. I could live with that.

Expand full comment

Damn, scenario #1 is a real possibility. I don't really care too much about the draft but that would honestly suck for the FO from their perspective

Expand full comment

So is 4, 5, 8, 9 & 10!

Expand full comment

Lol

Expand full comment

2nd try I got #3 & #8.

5th try I got #1 & #7.

I think I like those odds a lot better than our current ones.

Expand full comment

Don’t know the odds but I actually got 1 and 4 on my 15th try

Expand full comment

5 tries for us to get #1. I'll stop there for some good luck lol

Expand full comment

I'm mentally preparing for us to land at #14 and Minny keeping their pick

Expand full comment

The one consolation if the pick doesn’t convey is that what amounts to three (Wiseman and 2 picks) really raw young players might be tough to carry and develop, unless at least one is ready to contribute immediately (which is why Kispert seems to be on a lot of radars).

Expand full comment

How dumb would our FO look if that was the outcome lol

Expand full comment

Dumb? how? Do they have a secret in to get us more ping pong balls?

Expand full comment

Not as dumb as if they traded all their assists for Beal or Oladipo or whatever ill fitting player was out there, and then got Steph or Dray seriously injured through running them into the ground as Klay Thompson watches from the sideline with a ruptured Achilles, just so they could say they “went for it” this year.

Expand full comment

That’s a terrible take. Going from losing KD, to getting Wigs plus a lottery pick is masterful work by the FO. If you’re going to criticize the FO, then argue that the 14th pick isn’t worth not using the the DPE and full MLE (and the massive associated salary) to go all in this year.

Expand full comment

You think D’Lo for Wiggins + unprotected 2002 first rounder makes them dumb? I’d say it’s still really lopsided in GSW’s favor.

Expand full comment

*2022

Expand full comment

As long as the unprotected 2002 doesn’t end up being Mike Dunleavy Jr.? ;-P

Expand full comment

LOL

Expand full comment

Not particularly? We won the Wiggins-DLo swap easily *even if you don’t count the pick.* And the pick conveying would mean an unprotected first rounder next season. Wolves might be good next season, or they might not.

Expand full comment

Id bet on them handing us a top 12 pick next season if they're healthy enough...esp if they get the 1st overall and land Cade

Expand full comment

I'd bet on the pick conveying this year. But all we know are the odds.

I'm happy with the swap of Russell for Wiggins. The pick is gravy -- delicious gravy. If it lands relatively high (#4-6?), so much the better. But Minnesota already didn't pick Curry. I'll always be grateful to them.

Expand full comment

Or Thompson two years later (they opted for Derrick Williams at #2 ahead of Klay or Kawhi...)

Expand full comment

Well, hopefully I got it out of our system. :-)

Actually, I spun it ten more times “off line” after that sorry result and it conveyed all ten times, including once at #4. So I guess it’s now back in our system?

Either way, I think your approach is probably the right one, psychologically.

Imagine how stressed out we’ll be if we’ve gotten to the “pre-lotto commercial break” without the Wolves being called?

Expand full comment

Itll happen that way. Lonnnng commercial break. Im a Raider fan, and whenever we are on the clock on draft day, perfect time to step away...everytime. MF'ers.

Gooooooo BOS, ATL, MIL (done), PHI (effectively done), PHO, UTA, DAL, DEN!!

Expand full comment

Agreed except I'd be fine with the Blazers over Denver. Respect for Denver, I have no problem with them winning, but Portland has Dame, and besides, I kinda like the city. I'd LOVE to see Boston take down the Netocracy but I suspect they will end up baked beans.

LAC has a better chance at beating LAL imo than DAL does. So go LAC.

No more cute underdogs that don’t have a real shot against LAL like DEN last year. Keep the bracket as loaded as possible.

Expand full comment

My natural reaction is to always root against LA teams. Why stop now? Clippers aren’t exactly hateable but they are bland, dull and not all that fun to watch. And yea, their deliberate bracket tweaking tank must be punished. A wonderful Sunday would include both LA teams losing though. Is that too much to ask for?

Expand full comment

Before I moved here I liked the Wilt/West/Baylor/Goodrich Lakers and the Showtime Lakers but having lived here for 38 years (on and off for the first few years), I now want all LA teams to lose. BUT... I way prefer the Lakers to the Clips. If nothing else, I have liked Anthony Davis' game since he came into the league. I didn't pay much attention to the Clippers in San Diego (although they had Bill Walton) but I despised the Sterling-owned LA teams, and I have never warmed up to the Lob City bunch or this current bunch. I would like to see them thoroughly trounced.
