Explain: New Warriors Dario Saric and Chris… — 17 HRS AGO
Hoping this turbocharges his confidence
Da Marc (7 ♡):
You call it a heads up play, but it's clearly a "head down" play
fzwinter (5 ♡):
On the bonus video on the play where JK gets his bounce pass to GP2 intercepted, you can see (at the end of the play) GP2 motioning to JK to throw the ball up high. Hopefully JK will learn from this the next time they can hook up for a GP2 dunk.
fzwinter (4 ♡):
Another heads-up play on the bonus video you can see at 2:08. Saric struggles to pick up the semi-errant pass from Klay and slings it out to CP3 in the corner for an open 3. Watch Podz on the play - he's crashing towards the basket and is directly in the way of Saric's pass to CP3 so he immediately ducks to allow the pass to get through. He had to anticipate that play being made or he would have been drilled in the head.
Edited - Looks like the pass was going to barely get over Podz' head even if he didn't duck. Might have blocked out CP3's vision without ducking, though.
ServantOfLuna (4 ♡):
According to this: http://powerrankingsguru.com/nba/strength-of-schedule.php
we're still #1 in strength of schedule played.
Post-game: Warriors desperately try to blow… — NOV 24
Steph Curry and Dario Saric pour in points; swarming defense contains Wembanyama
Sleepy Freud (19 ♡):
You don’t think turning Poole, PBJ, Rollins, and JaMychal Green info CP3, TJD, Podz, and Saric represents (positive) change? I’m as pissed off as anyone by the sloppy play tonight, but c’mon, that’s a ridiculous premise.
Edit: if we’re talking relative to this time last season, we also turned Wiseman into Payton.
Asher B. (14 ♡):
So when the in-season tournament thing was announced last year, before I knew about it, I didn't think that I would care. This year, with the intensity that many players are bringing, and the colorful courts and everything, what has happened is that I don't care.
ServantOfLuna (13 ♡):
Draymond, when you return, please make our defense good again. Also, no kicking, no punching, no arguing, and no strangling someone when you return. Everyone will try to get on your nerves after what you did to Gobert last week.
belilaugh (12 ♡):
People ought to consider that Denver is 4-5 since Murray got hurt and squeaked by in all of their victories except the NOP one. Losing your second best player isn't a trivial thing to overcome, it's not my fault if you were in denial that Draymond was the Warriors' second best player. Judge the Warriors by how they look with their co-engine of the dynasty back in the fold, they were a bit above .500 without him in the year they won the championship too.
dinohealth (12 ♡):
Great win. Needed that badly. So, we finish that ROUGH PATCH just below .500, with Saric getting his stroke back, Klay and Wigs having give signs they are still full-recovery capable, and GP3 swatting giants. Give them 4-5 more games with Dray back, and we'll start rolling again. Frankly, that will be at about 1/4 season which is faster than I thought it would take to build a new team/chemistry, and, may be a bit too hopeful...
BayesGT (12 ♡):
2022-23: dominant starters, bench coughing up lead
2023-24: same starters, dominant bench
Not similar, and I’m willing to bet the starters return to their expected performance soon.
GlueAndBold (12 ♡):
Despite the fact that we should have blown them out of the water, that was a fun game to be at. GP2 block of Wembanyama was worth the price of admission.
Ando (12 ♡):
I liked the part where they won the game.

Is everyone else in the league too small, Ernie?
Shawyer (7 ♡):
Saric on a vet min is a crime. Guys like Marvin Bagley get paid and can't do half of what he does.
Abaddon (6 ♡):
Part of the reason we’re struggling right now is because Draymond is a hot headed idiot. And I like Draymond!
ServantOfLuna (5 ♡):
Well, we won, but holy shit. That win was ugly AF.

To ease the stresses of the holiday season
TwoRingTest (20 ♡):
OK, I'll admit it ... even with our rather slow start, I'm quite enjoying this season so far.
Titles, shmitles. We got lots of em.
What I really like is seeing a team come together and the young guys develop. While Kuminga has been a bit of a disappointment, Moody, TJD and Podz have been more than I expected.
Podz, in particular has been killing it lately. My first impression was that he had a very small chance to make an NBA roster. I no longer think that. He has work to do (handle, perhaps shot), but the foundation is there to see.
TJD, no worries. He's a rotation player by the end of the year.
Moody's just Moody. I don't think he's ever going to be a number 1 player, but he could be a solid number 2 or 3 on a championship roster someday. That's great.
And, I haven't given up on Kuminga. I've seen growth in decision making, even if it's only one game in 3 or 4.
So, fun times. That's even before we get to Steph doing his wizardry at a ridiculous level on what is supposed to be the downhill side of his career.
And, I look forward to the full Samba Mamba experience in at least one game this year.
TwoRingTest (14 ♡):
Dubfenestration = the act of passing the ball into a window between defenders that does not exist.
Eric Apricot (7 ♡):
Here, I’ll disagree with you directly. When someone posts about how they are enjoying the Warriors despite the creaky start, and you reply “yikes they actually suck”, I find that a rude and not interesting contribution to the discourse, especially since the predominant commentary on the site is “man the Warriors are bad right now”.
Let people enjoy things.
fzwinter (6 ♡):
Hoping GP2 will be back tonight
Asher B. (4 ♡):
If we lose to these possibly-tanking and certainly low-performing Spurs, I will defenstrate half of Prague. This is one of those games we so clearly should win. I expect -- no, I demand: Steph to be Steph; CP to behave; Kuminga to make sound decisions; Wiggins and Klay to each go 8-11 for 26 points and 11 rebounds; Podz to score 23 mostly in garbage time, and Looney to surprise everyone by stuffing Wembanyama on 6 separate occasions. I also expect, no demand, perfect coaching from Steven Kerr, and a 198-44 victory. Anything less than all this will tell me that the team, the coach and indeed the franchise intentionally are trying to destroy my lovely and relaxing holiday. Had veggie pot pie last night amid family in good mood and I do NOT need bad vibes from my basketball team, or they WILL hear from me in a STRONGLY worded post. They've been warned.
Qin (3 ♡):
Thank you, always a fan no matter where we are on the hourglass. We can discuses what to do to get better but Curry and Co is a generational type of situation so we may not see this kind of success for a while unless we hit the jackpot so enjoy while we have in and if we can add a little something something to get us to the top again then give MDj a huge bonus. We dont need much and need to see how we look after everyone is on the floor but have fun.
OakTownWs (3 ♡):
As someone who studies a lot of history and also works with minors (middle school), I’ve decided that this is where I’ve landed: 1. Childbirth until 90 years ago had a very high mother and newborn mortality rate. Life expectancy was also nearly half if what it is today. So there was, maybe, a bit more of a biilogical necessity to “start” procreating younger.
Did this make being “sexualized” before reaching the generally physically mature age of 18(ish) any less traumatic for a girl? Doubtful.
2, much of the history we receive comes from patriarchies, with fairly centralized power, so I think, maybe our actual knowledge (on just how acceptable it was for older people to have sexual relationships with women who had not even finished puberty) is dubious. That is: the general statement (“it was more accepted in the past”) is not necessarily sound,
3. Im glad, very glad, to live in a place, and an era, where its a stark: older people can not have sexual relationships with people under the age of 18. Period. It is destructive, traumatic and just does so much damage to the young person, regardless of its supposed acceptability across history and some places currently. Btw, it is illegal in Thailand too.
Sorry for the long windedness.
Peace and love
:)
Post-game: GSW bench squad storms back from… — NOV 22
CP3 gets ejected, Klay shoots well, GSW commits zillions of turnovers
AJ (18 ♡):
Prediction: Dray comes back, the schedule gets easier and they go 14-6 in the next 20 and everyone is going to be as unrealistically optimistic then as they are needlessly pessimistic now even though they'll be the same team playing roughly as well. Which is to say, probably the 6th-8th best team in the league that needs some luck and Klay and Wiggins to return to form to be a true contender.
They've been missing guys, their 3rd and 4th most important players have been awful, and they literally have had the hardest schedule so far (before yesterday's game they were 3rd in adjusted net rating or something like that) -- and they're 7-9. If they were 9-7, would people be freaking out as much?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, be thankful we're not Wizards fans.

I will take a team which let's me take months off for family w/o a ounce of resentment from anyone. I inspiite of one team member doing crazy things once a year
belilaugh (10 ♡):
Until they start losing with the Curry/Draymond combination, I don't see a reason to give up hope about the team. The theory of the team works really well, the best starting lineup in the league plus CP3 leading an improved bench unit. That requires the starting lineup to be playing and to be playing well though, so we'll see if Wiggins and Klay have taken steps from the last time Draymond was on the court when they are together again.
In the meantime, my goal with Draymond out was 2-3 and so if they win the Spurs game they are right there.

Here is my Warriors trivia for Thanksgiving Day.
I was looking at the Wikipedia article on the Dubs and guess who owns the team record for blocks?
Adonal Foyle
That warms my heart ... he was one of my first fav Dubs. I have a weakness for smart (not BBIQ), good humans who succeed at bball. And he was one of the best human beings to play for the Dubs.
Klaymatic37 (8 ♡):
Naw. I think it's potentially a very good team that has flaws that matter when it comes to the top teams. Them going a run is totally possible but what I need to see them do is figure out how to beat modern big teams like the cavs, Minnesota, Denver ect. It can be done but there is not much of margin for error. Well, that's my take.
ServantOfLuna (8 ♡):
Warriors have had the toughest schedule to date. All of the teams they have faced so far have a record of above .500, except for the Pistons. Things will get easier once we face <.500 teams like the Blazers, Spurs, Wizards, etc..
mDuo13 (7 ♡):
It's funny, I tend to think Scott Foster's officiating is generally pretty good. And I don't think the personal fouls were called unevenly or whatever this game! The technical fouls, though, I don't think we needed any of those. I'll grant the Podz flopping technical, he was trying anything he could. But the Chris Paul, and then Steve Kerr techs? Or even the KD one in the final seconds? Just let that shit go, man. Clearly Scott Foster is really not all about the Chris Paul experience, even before the ejection he was not giving CP the benefit of the doubt on any close calls, let alone his usual sneaky tricks. Bummer for us, but I can't completely blame him at not moving on from hating CP3. I'm still a little weirded out myself by how much nicer he seems when he's on your side.
It was really looking like a game we should forget, but it was saved by really fantastic play from the... third unit? Saric (rested up after early foul trouble), Moody, Podz, CoJo (?!), and Santos (!!) actually played well enough against Phoenix—even with KD and/or Booker in!—to close the gap. If we hadn't subbed in the "starters" (Kuminga instead of Paul) around 8-9 minutes left, they might actually have run Phoenix all the way off. (PHX being on a SEGABABA probably a huge factor there.)
Unfortunately Wiggins had another bad game and so did Kuminga. And the Dubs really, really struggled with getting offensive boards around the basket, mostly due to Nurkic and Eubanks. Not sure why Loon had a disappointing performance, but that's basically it.
So much for Steph's streak of 4+ 3's per game, too. He didn't look that off, but he didn't really get hot either. He was looking to get other guys going early on and had some foul trouble himself, especially vs KD.
I continue to be impressed with Podziemski though.
Goofus (6 ♡):
My updated “Which young Dub is going to be the team’s engine after the Big 3 move on?” Power Rankings has a new #1:
1. Podz - partly because of the position he plays and partly because his defense is better than I expected, Podz has moved to #1. His motor, dawgedness, ability to help the team in a variety of ways and make teammates better seems legit.
2. Kuminga - kinda one dimensional on offense and defense and I’m growing tired of every compliment about him being this remarkable physical specimen with amazing strength and athleticism when there doesn’t seem to be marked improvement elsewhere and his motor seems inconsistent. That said, he’s a remarkable physical specimen with amazing strength and athleticism…sigh.
3. Gui - pretty much a default since we know so little about him. In theory, his combination of size and tools makes his ceiling higher than the next guys. Bonus: His pretty face and international charm would look good on promotional billboards and draw fans from many different demographics.
4a. and 4b. - TJD & Moody - I don’t think either profile as being “the guy”, but I’m a fan of both the BBIQ and attitude and think they can both be solid contributors.

So, by the transitive property of painkillers, I expect the Dubs to trade for me any day now.

Eric Apricot (10 ♡):
It was the most unlikely part of that magical run
Sleepy Freud (9 ♡):
It was really a minor miracle.
At the same time, I'm not sure I'd totally agree with the tweet's premise that it's a "missing piece" this season. I can pretty easily see Moses, Jon, and/or Dario providing everything we see in that clip. Though granted, it was nice to have Otto's size, consistent shooting, rebounding, high IQ play, and solid D all in one player.
Maybe worth noting that last season Kuminga put up the same 3FG (.370) and significantly better TS (.597 to .581) than Otto in his one season as a Warrior?
mDuo13 (7 ♡):
And here I thought GP2 ascending from 15th man to plus-minus monster was the most unlikely part. (Seriously, some metrics had him at like 15th best player IN THE LEAGUE at times.)
All-star Wiggins, Poole parties in the playoffs, and the healthy, effective return of Klay were also kind of surprising events.

No, this was not just our imagination.
The first 13 games of this season marked the very worst stretch of 13 games in Andrew Wiggins' entire NBA career as measured by Box Plus/Minus: https://stathead.com/tiny/HHOuh
or by Hollinger Game Score: https://stathead.com/tiny/KqdzI
On a related note, Klay's last 11 games mark the 16th worst 11 game stretch of his entire NBA career as measured by Box Plus minus: https://stathead.com/tiny/eipF8
On the positive side of the coin, Klay played even worse than this at the start of last season then managed to bounce back.
To me, most of the Warriors' woes so far this season can be traced to Thompson's and Wiggins' coincident struggles.
But that is not all the bad news:
Chris Paul's field goal percentage so far this season is also the 22nd worst 15 game stretch over his entire NBA career: https://stathead.com/tiny/9Xgpl
It's also the very worst stretch of his entire NBA career as measured by Hollinger's Game Score: https://stathead.com/tiny/apbaJ
Finally, Jonathan Kuminga's 26.8% usage so far this season is far too high for his 51% true shooting percentage: https://stathead.com/tiny/FKmnT
and his 101 offensive rating: https://stathead.com/tiny/qINBA
On the bright side, however, things could have been even worse were Poole still around.
Podz, Moody, and TJD all need to get more offensive opportunities because they are the only players other than Curry, Looney, and Draymond whose scoring efficiency so far this season is at or above league average.
Podz in particular has been killing it with the 15th highest true shooting percentage among all NBA players with the same or higher usage and the same or higher three point attempt rate: https://stathead.com/tiny/bqgec

DFiB (11 ♡):
Thankfully, the play in isn’t till April, and we’re only 2.5 games out of the 4 seed. There’s… ummmm… time left to close the gap. Time when we won’t have played the toughest schedule in the NBA… and theoretically time when Klay, Wiggins, and CP3 won’t be simultaneously slumping from beyond the arc.
Sleepy Freud (9 ♡):
Probably also some small sample theater. It’s only 13 games played, and all of the other scorers Curry passes to (Wiggs, Klay, CP3, Kuminga) are shooting anomalously terribly.
Post-game: Dubs win! Klay hits some 3s, CP3… — NOV 20
Warriors make it close enough to unnerve, but not close enough to hurt, violating Apricot's Law
Asher B. (18 ♡):
Three Thoughts!
1. Great win but Houston isn’t that good. Let’s not get too sweaty about it.
2. You’ve done some good things in your life, you’ve helped others, you’ve been kind. None of it has earned you Steph Curry. You’re not worthy. It’s just impossible to be worthy of him.
3. Weirdly two pairs of players we think of together had very similar stat lines. The Splash Bros both hit 5 threes, went for 50% games; Kuminga and Moody both 3-7 with 7 points, 1-3 from three
4. CP was Warrior Wonder easy. THIS is the guy I’ve always hated. Welcome. 15 points on 4-7 shooting with 3-5 from three and a 12-1 assist to turnover ratio.
5. As mentioned in game thread, Kerr did everything right. Team looked locked in, offense was flowing, defensive adjustments were spot on.
6. I didn’t even know we were ALLOWED to have 8 turnovers in a game. Is that legal?
7. If Wiggins and Kerr keep improving like this, they may make the squad after all. Great game by both on both offense and defense. They must have heard me and some others here calling for their exile to Alcatraz.
wonderyearsballer (17 ♡):
The thing that impresses me about Podz is that he seems to understand the _urgency_ of the Warriors motion offense. Other rookies do that thing where they bring the ball forward at three-quarter speed with no plan ("I'm attacking, I'm attacking... no I'm not") then they toss a looping pass back to the point guard and the possession is stone dead. Perhaps unfairly I call it a "Pat McCaw". JK does it less now, but Podz just seems to know that if you move fast the defense will give you a half-step somewhere, and then if you move (and think) still faster you can keep it open, claw it open, and somewhere someone will get a look. Did he learn that here, or has he always played like that?
Abaddon (17 ♡):
Kerr on the highlight possession of the night from the excellent Slater recap:
“The ball hit the paint twice,” Kerr said. “It was drive, kick and drive, kick again. That’s the blueprint. But in order for that to happen, Klay has to get off the ball when he’s not open rather than try to beat his guy one-on-one and take a difficult fadeaway. That’s what we’re trying to focus on.”
Kerr wasn't entirely happy with Klay's night though:
“He made a couple early and then he immediately took two bad shots,” Kerr said, referring to those two post-ups. “So I did not sense it early. I just reminded him: If you’re not open, just move it. Look at these guys on the team who will get you the ball.”
On sticking with Klay & Wiggins:
“I’m really patient,” Kerr said. “I’ve got guys who are championship players. Klay and Wiggs early on have struggled. But I’m of the opinion that we have to show patience. We know what they are. You look at Wiggs the other night, and he looked great. Our patience has been rewarded. I think you will see a different Wiggs from here on, and I think the same thing’s going to happen with Klay.”

vignette17 (13 ♡):
A couple thoughts:
*Good to finally get a win and that one was a confident one where we were the ones leading by 8+ most of the way, instead of the opposite like the Cavs/Minny games.
*Every single Dub (minus TJD who played 4 min) had 3 rebounds. They did got outrebounded, but gang effort.
*Klay hit 5 3PM today, and I'm still not positive he was a plus player. He had only 1 TOV, but multiple shot turnovers, and some rough blowbys. His 2P% is down to .481, below Wiggins. Only CP has a lower 2P%.
*The FTs were super nice today. I don't remember the last time the Dubs shot 30+ FTs on 80+%. Think how much more stressful this could have been if Wiggs wasn't 4/4 from the line.
*The minutes were a bit too high. Steph with 35, CP with 34. But we needed this one, so it had to be done.
*Podz had the highest TRB% on the team. The second highest AST%. No TOV, and a .750 TS%. Yeah, I'll take that.
*CP3 might have had his best game as a Dub today. Just constantly doing the right thing. His on-off is up to +15.4 on the season.
*STEPH!

Boosting this tweet about Poole not knowing the rules and wasting time when he wanted to save time.
Also I'd like to bring attention to something Chris "The Feds" Paul did last night. Sengun scores the ball with 2:46 remaining to trim the lead to 8:
You can see CP3 not grabbing the ball immediately, pretending to do other things although that piece of shit (now "our" piece of shit) knew exactly what type of legalized cheating he was partaking in. Don't have the rest of the clip but you can see the beginning of it.
Here, you can see Curry score the ball with 2:21 remaining and 10 seconds on the shot clock:
2:46-2:21=25 seconds that elapsed between the end of those two possessions despite the Warriors only using 14 seconds of the shot clock, which means CP3 bled 11 seconds off the clock just by standing there and knowing the refs wouldn't call anything if he sold it.
Taking advantage of the very inconsistently applied delay of game rules to give the Warriors a better chance to win the game, the type of tax loophole-ass winning play that will never show up in the box score and a MASSIVE contrast to what Poole did.
Eric Apricot (12 ♡):
I think JG is an interesting comparison to Kuminga. Teammates in the G-League Ignite, both high draft picks. JG got all the shots he could want and more on a non-winning team. JK got none of the shots he wanted and less, on a winning team. They both seem in a kind of similar place… tantalizing tools and flashes but neither can get advantages for their team consistently. Yet.

Hey guys, this site, and, Warriors Fans were never double F (FF) = Fickle Fans! Enough of this nonsense about Klay, Wiggins, etc. Team is trying to find its footing with new pieces, CHRIS PAUL in the ball-distribution mix, and with the HOF CORE THREE not having played more than 3-4 games TOGETHER. When Steph got hurt, and Dray got the solitary confinement sentence, I thought we'd be happy if we can hang around .500, or, just under it...by the time they get back. Hey, we were one bucket away from it, last game. Silver lining: Steph came back early AND was effective, Whigs is breaking out, AND our young uns getting a ton of PT. KERR is getting lots of rotations to inspire him, and no one should be worried at all about KLAY breaking out of his temporal funk; HE ALWAYS HAS. GIVE THEM TIME TO WORK OUT INTEGRATION....after they get FULL SQUAD BACK!

Questions: does Apricot still remember how to make an E1P? Did he sell his fancy equipment to pay for more flashy things?
Captain Jack (11 ♡):
Wiggs was 3-10 from the field but for some reason it didn't feel like an awful shooting game because he made his 3s and free throws lol
Eric Apricot (11 ♡):
Reading the article carefully, I see the cited sources are (1) a rival Western Conference assistant coach who wonders if GSW will trade JK, and (2) a rival NBA exec who is annoyed GSW won’t trade JK. The line about GSW coaches aren’t sold on JK is unsourced.
So I leave the article feeling I haven’t learned anything new.

EPM ratings for the current season now that enough games have been played (I'm guessing they are still fairly volatile given that it's been 14 games at most):
Curry +5.9, #4 in the league
Paul +2.0, #41
Looney +0.8, #79
Green, +0.8 #80
Saric +0.3, #95
Moody -0.7, #130
Thompson -1.6, #181
Payton -1.8, #195
Podziemski -2.8, #243
Jackson-Davis -2.8, #246
Kuminga -2.9, #248
Wiggins -4.0, #299
A few guys from last season:
DiVincenzo -1.6, #180
Poole -4.3 #311
Wiseman -4.4, #314
I assume none of the two-way guys or Joseph (or Jerome or Rollins or Baldwin) have played enough to register on here, but maybe I just missed them since you have to scroll through manually as this site paywalled stuff like searching by team.
Highest rated rookie: Chet Holmgren, 9th in the league (Wembanyama is #136). Thunder also have SGA at third in the league. I think they are more "up now" than "up next".
Interesting stuff from Zach Harper in the athletic on the beef between CP3 and scott fosters.
Pretty difficult to suggest below stats are random? What do youll think? Maybe something else is also going on during these games?
“Tom Haberstroh dug up the numbers. CP3’s teams are 3-17 (.150 win percentage) in the playoffs when Foster officiates, dating back to 2007. Bad luck? Maybe. An ax to grind? Considering Paul’s squads are 73-56 (.565 win percentage) in the playoffs without Foster reffing, I’d say so.”
