James Wiseman making steady progress with Detroit; rewarded with progressive more minutes. In a game decided in the 4th quarter VS Miami last night, he delivered another doubled-double 22 pts 13 rebs, 2 fouls, while shooting 76.9FG/10-13/-1003pt-100FT, in 32 minutes PT. The last 5 games he's averaged 29 mins PT, 16 ppg, 9 rebs, 2.4 fouls p/g, while shooting 50 percent from the floor. He had one off game vs Washington which brought his averages down.

Happy for him, sad for the Ws. It's amazing to me that they couldn't find a way to incorporate his strengths into the plan while minimizing his downsides. Yes, he's raw and needs to grow in a lot of basic ways on court. But they couldn't find a way to use what he brings? Crazy.

Great opportunity for him.

Yep. Methinks he will be a fine player. Pulling for him.

I guess he'll be like Markelle Fultz.

Sol, too early to tell....we really do not know what he is capable of when HEALTHY, and a bit of EXPERIENCE under his belt. Frankly, he never had that opportunity to get both any significant time on our 'Ship team. The early returns indicate he has star potential. He is also a good kid with a solid work ethic judging from the way he handled all the untoward stuff when with us. The last, is one of the reasons why I am hopeful and pulling for him.

Ah, I'm not seeing Fultz making any All-Star teams. I can see Wiseman making them. Give him a couple of years.

A lot of people said he was useless. A useless player doesn't get traded and almost immediately start getting double-doubles. Unless said player was some kind of locker room cancer--something no one has EVER accused Wiseman of being--then when that happens it means the team that traded him was completely incompetent. With each passing day, the Dubs look stupider and stupider. And it is totally deserved . . . because this year, for the first time in the dynasty, the old guard looks selfish, petulant, and narrow-minded (in that they only want to play one way, even when the talent around them opens up new options). I guess it was easy for Steph and Dray and Klay to be all about truth in numbers when older vets around them were the ones who had to sacrifice touches so they could shine. Now, when Steph and Dray and Klay need to occasionally defer to some younger players . . . the old geezers end up punching one, impatiently waving another who had great position away as they (for the 1,000,000th time) hunt a three, throwing mouthpieces, and pointing to rings they won in the past every time some hungry young team stuffs their arrogance back down their throats. Just a total embarrassment. Not the losing. The embarrassment is the unsportsmanlike behavior after losing, and as they struggle not to lose.

There is a bit of a difference. The Monta era vets weren’t actually better at winning games.

The Warriors got really raw rooks and very successful vets instead of very successful rooks and very average vets. One might see how those dynamics could be a bit different.

It’s like asking college kids to hang out with teenagers vs toddlers. You’re going to get different outcomes.

Lol, your point about toddlers is spot-on, but a lot of his points are still valid. When you go out and adopt with number 2 pick, a promising, long, BABY TO WEAN TO TODLERHOOD AND BEYOND, in answer to your decades-long hopes for one, you sure need to have your grown family invested and prepared to receive him and work with him, even after he breaks a leg; very selfish and short-sighted to put him up for adoption, as soon as he recovers, in exchange for a salary dump...That, is not the Warriors Team Culture we've all proudly subscribed to...at least not since the pitifully bungled parting with MJax...who, by the way, was the last miracle-worker we've had to wean and work, successfully, with....extraordinarily-gifted BABIES AND INJURED toddlers. Since, we did it for Loons, who had an even less of a medical and ceiling probability to be who he became. Of course the salary hit was a non-factor...JW=SALARY DUMP/abandonment, nothing more, AND THAT SUCKS....

The Los Angeles Lakers are working out free agent centers Tristan Thompson and Tony Bradley this week, sources tell me and @jovanbuha. Thompson, an 11-year NBA veteran, was a key member of the 2016 championship Cavaliers team alongside LeBron James.

It's really interesting that Demarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside can't even get a sniff of a look at a roster spot.

Demarcus comes with an awful lot of baggage and I don't really think he can defend any more, but he can contribute offensively (he was actually scoring 23 points per 36 in his last stop in Denver).

Whiteside was a jerk early in his career, but AFAIK, didn't make any waves the last few years.

Either they are out of shape, just can't play enough defense to stay on the court any more, or their reputations make them unsignable. Would be interesting to know if it's the last factor that's important.

what do you think of Tristan Thompson...would he fit....

LAL? No idea, really.

For us, I don't think so. IIRC, he couldn't really switch out and guard on the perimeter, like Loon, and Draymond, and JMG.

I was thinking of us....thanks for your thoughts. He has made a favorable impression on me over the years. Don't know what kind of shape he is in....he is fairly quick...don't know if he is faster than Loons...but, I like his attitude as a back up...

Good rebounder, good interior defender, but the Dubs used to just play him off the court by spreading things out. It's only gone more that way over the years.

3/24- vs. Thunder

3/26- vs. Bulls

3/29- @ Bulls

Although the Lakers are #25 in remaining strength of schedule, most of the teams that the Lakers will play against are teams that are either fighting for a spot in the play-ins (Thunder, Bulls, Jazz, Wolves) or for a higher spot in the standings (Suns, Clippers). So the schedule isn't gonna be a cakewalk for them.

so if pistons end up drafting wemby do you guys think they’d give up either beef stew or duren?

Expand full comment

Bagley. Theyll keep Wiseman, Stew, Duren, and Wemby

Expand full comment

They'd give up Big Wise before Duren. He's cheaper and has lots of potential.

But the Pistons' coach, I think it was, said that Wiseman gives them championship leadership because of his Warriors experience. I found that ironic but that's what the man said.

Expand full comment

“Gather ‘round young fellas and I’ll let tell you how I lead the Warriors to championship in 2022.”

Expand full comment

It would make sense, in a way. He's been with a championship org. Wise is due an important extension. Ideally they'd want to see him with Cade before making a decision on that but Wembanyama would complicate matters. Duren on the other hand is relatively cheaper. I personally feel they need a wing like Miller but you just can't pass up on Victor.

Expand full comment

They had a 9-minute experiment of Duren and JWise on the court together. It was forced by injuries and foul trouble.

Right now, Wiseman is starting. I think who they keep will depend on which one they think can move to the 4 more effectively. Duren has the lead in passing, but Wiseman (I think, not sure) has a better mid-range shot.

Expand full comment

The choice is hella easy imo, Duren is a vastly superior prospect to Wiseman

One more thing. Given his physique, Wemby may play the 4 to start his rookie year. That also complicates the decision of whether to keep both Wiseman and Duren and, if not, which one to trade.

I think money is only going to enter if its really a toss-up given their team-building plans.

(Now my screen refreshes and I see Sphe anticipated the suggestion that Wemby play the 4)

I've watched every game and I agree. Duren is a better passer, more physical too. Wiseman is decent in the midrange. Victor would be a perfect partner to both guys at PF. He can handle and space it. Not to mention him as a help defender.

They play hard and are very athletic. Tomorrow evening's definitely not a lock. Goes without saying, I guess, given the Dubs' road woes, but I watched some of their game today and they drew a ton of fouls and got a lot of second chance points, two things the Dubs are susceptible to giving up.
