I, too, think we tend to slow it down with a lead too much... and also hoist up mediocre shots early in the shot clock with a lead. Both of these are examples of bad pace, but can't be measured by a statistic.
It was a little heartening to see the Pelicans struggle a bit with the Kings' end of game press... they needed timeouts (see Kerr!) to save not one, but two backcourt violations. I also did the Leo DiCaprio pointing meme watching their offense bog down after growing the lead to 17 only to let the Kings get it back to 4.
To state the obvious; they can. And the Pelicans (or any other team) can blow leads as properly as the Warriors. We just feel the failures 1000x more when it happens to the Warriors.
For me, this place (I don't really mean "this place" specifically, any passionate community can be like this) can be a drag when we're losing, I often read less and stop commenting (usually others are saying what I feel) and just like things I agree with. Just sharing my way of dealing with things, not trying to suggest change or imply anyone's bad or anything.
At some point (maybe next offseason) you should do a series on DNHQ draft results vs. the league. We've had some pretty good picks:
2020 (#2 pick): Tyrese Haliburton, Onyeka Okongwu
2021: (#7 pick): Moses Moody, Alperen Sengun
2022: (#28 pick): E.J. Liddell, Jalen Williams
2023: (#19 pick): Dereck Lively II, Jordan Hawkins
I'm not entirely sure how you'd do the comparison since the draft tourneys have all been "among the guys projected to be available where the Warriors are drafting" but you could probably come up with some kind of comparison between where guys were projected pre-draft, where they ended up going on draft night, and where they went in more recent re-drafts and/or some other measure of career production.
I wonder how we collectively differ from most actual GM’s. Feels like we value BBIQ & motor more than eye-popping physical traits to a greater degree. (Haliburton, Wagner, Barnes)
I'm not sure why you are speaking for all of DNHQ. I think many were in favor of giving Wiseman a try. Poole certainly slipped under my radar but the team was high on him until the punch.
1. Don’t start/stop the play-in games. Just have a round robin.
2. Extend the round robin to a home and away game against each team. 8 games is likely to spread out the standings and help avoid going to point differential (which I didn’t like)
With the way they've watered down the meaning of divisions for the end of season playoffs, I do like this idea to have the IST groups be the divisions themselves. It would bring back some of the rivalry, among other things.
Someone suggested just using the overall regular season record, so there was no incentive to run up the score in an individual game. That seemed reasonable to me.
Thank you, Pelicans, for turning Sacramento into Sacra-meant-to.
Fun fact: the Warriors have a better net rating than the Kings, Mavericks, or Lakers.
Bonus: the Clippers have a better net rating than the Bucks.
dunksandthrees.com has us as the top team in the division, lol
I'd never seen that site ... thanks.
Some interesting stuff in there.
I think of our pace this season as being just awful, but according to that, we're 11th in pace, so just kind of mediocre.
I, too, think we tend to slow it down with a lead too much... and also hoist up mediocre shots early in the shot clock with a lead. Both of these are examples of bad pace, but can't be measured by a statistic.
Pace isn't a virtue. Being #1 in pace shouldn't be a goal.
Not that I'm telling you anything you don't already know, but:
In and of itself, it shouldn't be a goal, but I think our offense struggles more against set defenses than most teams (lack of size and athleticism).
Pace is useful for creating scattered breaks. We tend to get some pretty good looks out of scattered breaks.
On one hand, I'm glad the Pelicans beat the Kings. On the other hand...(takes a deep, DEEP breath).
WHY CAN'T THE WARRIORS FINISH THE GAME PROPERLY LIKE THE PELICANS DID TONIGHT?!

Per Cleaning The Glass, GP2 and Moody are both top 5 in offensive rebound rate amongst wings who have played 180+ minutes.
Podz gotta be high on guards list
Pelicans beat the Kings 127-117.
No beam lighting tonight
Pels up 100-91 after 3 quarters.
yaaah - lets go Pelicans -" the enemy of my enemy is my friend"
Pels up 69-61 at halftime.
Where is Sab?
She told me she needed a long break from the site because she was spending too much time here, which was not good for her mental health.
Sab, we miss you! Hope you're doing well.

Damn. All good karma and wishes to Sab, if you’re lurking!!
And even if you’re not lurking!
Ditto.
Not sure what's going on and with her name change, hopefully she's OK.

Well, the Pelicans were Briefly in it.
Now they are.
Do the wins and losses in the in-season tournament count towards the team's regular season W-L records?
Yes, except the finals
I haven’t seen McCollum in while. He looks more yoked than I remember
As Haliburton’s star rises, so rises DNHQ’s collective draft reputation!!

You mean like the BBIQ of Wiseman and Poole?
Pretty sure Wiseman went out very early in our draft tournament. It was only after he was drafted that he got a passionate following.
I'm not sure what you are saying.
I don’t think those guys represent DNHQ picks. Wiseman wasn’t our guy. Were we thinking JP at all?
I'm not sure why you are speaking for all of DNHQ. I think many were in favor of giving Wiseman a try. Poole certainly slipped under my radar but the team was high on him until the punch.
I said “collectively” and you say I’m speaking for all of DNHQ. Unbelievable.
What is this collective DNHQ? You say 'our guy'. Do you actually have figures for this?
I had no idea who JP was when we picked him.
No but it was the 28th pick. I don't think any of us were thinking it was a consequential pick at the time. 2022 says hello.
Probably not, I don't remember things like this.
Hope MDJ is checking in - you all better put out the trade options
Lets go pelicans - kick some sac butt next
I love seeing the Celtics getting beaten in important games and any game actually - yeaaah Pacers
The in season tournament is fun and cool, sorry
I was just about to say, “Watch the Pacers players react to winning and advancing and tell me this isn’t fun.”
Money makes the world go 'round.
Yeah it looked like a good time to me
My only suggestions:
1. Don’t start/stop the play-in games. Just have a round robin.
2. Extend the round robin to a home and away game against each team. 8 games is likely to spread out the standings and help avoid going to point differential (which I didn’t like)
I still think it should be a Division Cup

That defeats the purpose of making "special" games for it though, and the NBA clearly wants to make a spectacle out of part of the regular season.
I like the first year being shorter round robin format. Once people are more into it, can extend
Holy shit Hali 4 point play
Game over
