Quite a comeback by the Nets last night who were down 21 and headed toward the dreaded lower play-in pair. They may clinch 8th over the Hawks tomorrow.

I just realized that I'm currently in my 50th year of being a Golden State Warriors fan. That should mean a title this year, right? Gold anniversary present = Gold Cup.

As a kid, I would start learning to play a sport, then pick up following the local pro team. So it was baseball one year, football the next, and then basketball. I watched the 1973-74 team and got excited and then in the offseason they lost Nate Thurmond, Cazzie Russell, and Jim Barnett. How were they going to get better? So after the next year's CHAMPIONSHIP I learned that "Well, well well, you can never tell."

Looking things up now, it's still amazing. Thurmond for Cliff Ray and a 1975 #1 was a pretty good deal, but it was too hard to understand then what Cliff Ray really meant if he wasn't scoring buckets. They traded Russell for Jerry Lucas, a guy who never ended up playing a game for the Warriors because he found God and retired! They lost Barnett to the Jazz in an expansion draft. And still... they drafted Keith Wilkes and Phil Smith and the magic happened. I wouldn't even know today who the GM was that did all that. Turns out it was Dick Vertlieb, who also won Executive of the Year for it!

As a pretty heftily anti-Wigs guy, I have a question for the deep-ridged brains of Dubnation:

In light of LeGM’s latest attention-grab, hypothetically does trading Wiggins for Leflop straight up even work? Trade machine says Lebron would have to make 2.3 mil less… but he’ll be a UFA this summer, so would a sign and trade be necessary or even possible?

Please someone forward this message to Jordan Poole:

Dear Jordan,

You might have forgotten this incident. I almost wish you do. Inside me, it still burns with outrage.

It was the beginning of your rookie year. A Dubs team traumatized by a finals sixth lost by abysmal bad luck, and still disgraced with injuries was playing against the Lakers at Staples. It was a team that everyone knew was lottery-bound, but I loved it: GRIII, Burks, Chriss, Paschanimal, Sky Bowman, they had no clue (remember how frustrated was Dray?), but they were always fighting, smiling, dancing, and I loved them.

And there was you, young, swaggy, dishearteningly bricking from every distance, fighting to slow down that frantic NBA world.

And on the other bench there was the King. Lebron James.

I think it was Lonzo Ball, who pointed you, dribbled inside out, feinted, and made you trip on your feet and then went on with his play. I was disheartened almost as you were, seeing you stumble and fall, and hearing the crowd laughter.

And there, the camera goes to the King, that cruelly mocks your movement, his ankles twisting in a Forrest Gump move, laughing with all his bench buddies. Laughing at you.

Remind him, tonight.

Remind him of that rookie that so much he laughed about.

That rookie is about to be the protagonist of a playoff that him, the King, will watch on TNT.

Tell him that all the young buddies that laughed with him on that bench (Ingram, Ball, Kuzma, KCP, Caruso…) have gone away. HE sent them away, for… Russel Westbrick.

Don’t tell him that while he will comment games and train Bronnie, you will be at least 10 times all star. And maybe (remember, Steph was dead serious when he said that he expects you to become better than him) one day you will celebrate 40k points in career. Don’t tell him that.

Just smile.

S.

Tankathon and ESPN have the Warriors taking Jaden Hardy with the 27th pick. It's amazing that he's fallen so far on these mock drafts. I've not seen him penciled in as a lottery pick anywhere. I wonder if the Warriors would pick another guard over a big.

I have my gripes with Kerr but this fills my heart with joy.

“The stars have to be stars, and Klay is a star. My job is to help him play at the highest level that he can. I’m not benching him. It’s idiotic.”

If trae young is so good why is the hawks record so shitty? With all the shooters they have and a vertical threat like capela they should have the best offense in the league, is there defense horrible or something?

I’m shocked that Kyrie is struggling now that he doesn’t get to sit out all the home games.

Several recent articles on the ‘great rookies of 2021’ largely exclude Kuminga. Not just in the list of 10 best, but in various discussions. What am I missing? Yes he played fewer minutes due to being on GSW, but Are we just subject to a lot of hype and adrenalin when he dunks? Do all these others have such higher ceilings?
