@TheWarriorsTalk
Wiggins was "under the weather" today causing him to miss practice.
Keep in mind the first game he would miss for not being vaxxed is preseason finale on Oct. 15, which happens to be exactly two weeks from yesterday. Eyes
My theory: Wiggins got the vaxx.
Goofus (4 ♡):
Yesterday being the exact deadline to get a shot without missing games seems too correlated to be coincidental.
hammystyle (4 ♡):
It was always going to be easy. He’d explore his options until forced into the only sensible thing. Which he’ll do quietly.
fotd (4 ♡):
Unfortunately that pill doesn’t make a dent in the public health arena. It will halve the rate of hospitalizations if someone gets Covid. (You’re twice as likely to be admitted for Covid care if you have Covid and don’t take the pill) It probably won’t do anything to decrease the spread of disease.
The vaccines make it eight times less likely you get the disease and much less likely that you’re a link in a chain of contagion that leads to another’s death or long term illness. The vaccines also make it forty times less likely to be hospitalized and 47 times less likely to die from Covid.
Oral medications that help to treat the disease are a fantastic step in the right direction and will be part of the future that makes us able to live like we used to. But, at this point, they are nowhere near as important as are the vaccines to saving lives.
Eric Apricot (3 ♡):
If he got the shot, I’m imagining no announcement until Wiggins walks out opening night wearing a giant day glo bandage on his upper arm with Fauci’s face on it. Milk that drama
g8tgod (7 ♡):
Great article, Duby.
I'll admit that the Wiggins situation has cast a pall over the start of this season for me. Unexpected from multiple angles. Didn't think Wiggins would go so far. Can't believe the front office wasn't on top of this. Just very disappointed. I think I'm at the stage where even if he were to get the Jan today, I don't know if I can just move on.
Maybe it's because it links to all of the real life discussions about vaccines, mandates, conspiracy theories, and the like. Not where I was hoping to be or where I was hoping the team should be as the season begins. 😒
AttilaTheHun (6 ♡):
Thanks! Slater explained, "because they are not employees of a company that is under the city's limits, the rules don't currently apply." That's shuck and jive. When I travel on business, I have to obey the laws of the place I'm visiting, whether my company is based there or not. This should be no different.
jzalvarado (15 ♡):
I'm having a really really hard time consolidating my thought processes around some of these players stances on Covid. Just feel slightly hypocritical because I cheer many of these players when they choose to kneel or protest against racial injustice in this country but just tune them out on their 'concerns' about Covid and it makes the product they are trying to sell less appealing. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I'm trying to get to a 'respectfully disagree' phase but since Covid has wiped out ten percent out of my own extended family, I'm finding myself more and more just saying I honestly want nothing to do with Wiggins or entertaining the possibility of a Beale trade at this present juncture.
Captain Jack (12 ♡):
I think some people are severely underestimating the impact of a player (especially a starter) being in and out of the lineup. Basketball is a game of rhythm & flow and it's hard to get the ball rolling when there's inconsistencies.
void (9 ♡):
"Not requiring NBA players to be vaccinated is horse s--t." 💯
Goofus (7 ♡):
Wiggins might be the first person ever to declare he’s fighting for what he believes in while refusing to say what he believes in.
Abaddon (7 ♡):
It's impossible to challenge or educate when someone won't actually reveal what their objection is. That's appealing to someone who isn't interested in actually examining their own basis for objection.
Klaymatic37 (6 ♡):
IMO, the frustration isn't simply about Wiggins but exhaustion from the drama of the Trump years leading to where we are now, an on going pandemic, when there is a simple answer to dramatically lower the case load in the USA, a vaccine.
Peoples patience has grown thin. I doubt anyone here wishes him ill will or to get a serious case of covid (I just assume he will get it at some point), but I just don't have much headspace for those who refuse it if your not a loved one.
mDuo13 (6 ♡):
Are you suggesting that unvaccinated basketball players don't interact with anyone besides other players?
How about the coaches, refs, fans, arena staff, reporters, airport staff, hotel staff, and everyone else the player interacts with every day? Maybe some of them have children who aren't yet eligible for a vaccine? Pro basketball players travel way more, and are exposed to way more people, than most of us. It's not unscientific to say that they could catch and spread the disease farther and faster than most people, so unvaccinated players are DEFINITELY putting others at risk.
The Sword Of The Morning (6 ♡):
Comment I found on Twitter about Wiggins: "If he was this aggressive on the court, he'd be an all-star."
Stefano Gelati (5 ♡):
I read a lot of understanding and empathizing for AW. I don’t want to enter in the discussion on vaccines. I only share my personal vision:
- Wiggins spat on GSW jersey
- I really hope they trade him. I won’t be rooting for him anymore anyway.
I hope JTA shows him the stitches on his head to remind him what it means to be on a team, cabrón!
Abaddon (5 ♡):
It really is. The NBAPA really sucks ass sometimes.

'21 Season E1P Review: Steph Curry late season…
M V P! M V P!
Goofus (4 ♡):
Three minutes of Steph being holy shitballs amazing in practice today.
(Teaser: I guess Steph’s gonna be the primary lob target until Wiseman’s back.)
sabrinasez (4 ♡):
Kuminga guarding Steph. It went as you would expect. 😅😅
Abaddon (4 ♡):
Actually, that’s not bad, and looks like a lot of NBA veterans guarding him. Steph cooked PG13 similarly in that massive Clippers comeback game, which I know because I just rewatched it :)
Arash (4 ♡):
Steph's late season surge was one of the most amazing runs of basketball that I've ever seen. As my grandma put it, Steph is like if basketball greatness and basketball porn got married.
Translation: He's an all time great player who is also insanely fun to watch.
BadlyBrowned (3 ♡):
This made me watch the Bang Bang OKC game again, and man, the Warriors were down 12 with 4 minutes to go and 4 with 15 seconds to go. And Iguodala iced the FTs to send it to OT.
Still cant believe they won that game hahaha
Eric Apricot (3 ♡):
I consider 2016 Steph to be the best offensive season in history. (You have to grade Wilt on a curve.) His defense was good too, though not as good as 2014-15, when he was actually very good.
Ghost in the small ball machine…
Get ready for the Small Ball (or Death) Squad
Abaddon (8 ♡):
> big man was picked #2
Let's look at ALL #2 picks, shall we?
2010's: Ja Morant, Marvin Bagley, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, D’Angelo Russell, Jabari Parker, Victor Oladipo, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Derrick Williams, Evan Turner
2000's: Hasheem Thabeet, Michael Beasley, Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Marvin Williams, Emeka Okafor, Darko Milicic, Jay Williams, Tyson Chandler, Stromile Swift
1990's: Steve Francis, Mike Bibby, Keith Van Horn, Marcus Camby, Antonio McDyess, Jason Kidd, Shawn Bradley, Alonzo Mourning, Kenny Anderson, Gary Payton
(etc)
Bottom line: #2 picks are a crapshoot, whether you're talking big men or not.
Duby Dub Dubs (8 ♡):
graphene-level-hard pass on Kevin Love at this point in his career on anything but a minimum. I would honestly rather have Wiggins for half the games and keep the pick.
On the other hand... Wiggins in that trade is the positive side of it. It's only while playing for our team that makes Wiggins ineligible. I bet it would more realistically be Love and Cavs assets coming back this way, rather than the Dubs needing to attach anything.
Duby Dub Dubs (5 ♡):
I really wanted to give Oubre another shot. He shot like absolute doo doo to start the season, and was bumping into people like he had bleach in his eyes.
But he also was a pretty nice defender, and once he settled in (and the team moved him up to more of a 3-4) I thought he started to get it - right up to where his wrist got screwed.
Peter Hood (5 ♡):
Too early to tell, but could Wiseman be a small ball 5 in a big man's body? One of the things that makes a big man a big man, and something that could be exploited by small lineups, has been speed. Big men tend to be slow up and down the court. Small guys can exploit this. Wiseman is big, but he is definitely not slow. Dray has said he might be the fastest running the full length of the court. Big men usually don't have an outside shot. It's early, but James appears to have a soft touch and an impossible shot to block given his release point. Can he find a couple comfortable spots on the floor, something like West's classic elbow jumper? JaVale was a big man, but he was a run and gun rim protector and vertical spacer. Can Wiseman exploit that vertical space? I think so. Point is, Wiseman is a big man, but his athleticism, speed & fluidity could, I am saying 'could at some point', allow the Warriors to play a style that looks like small ball, except for the fact that one of the guys is 7' plus with a 7'6" wingspan. My kind of small ball.
Captain Jack (5 ♡):
JTA talking about gaining weight so he can guard bigger players is a clue too. Maybe we see more of JTA/Draymond in the closing lineup this year especially if JTA improves on his 3 ball a little bit more.
Pre-Klay return death lineup:
Steph/Wiggins/Porter/JTA/Draymond
After the Return of the King:
Steph/Klay/Wiggins/Porter/Draymond (I personally think this lineup is built to run the Lakers off the floor)
Duby Dub Dubs (5 ♡):
interestiiiing! I never thought of that. But you're right. If there's one place to hide a non-shooting threat, it's at the 5.
> One thing I've thought is that if Green's 3pt shot never comes around again, then Green kinda has no choice but to play more 5.
I almost put something in here about how the team wasn't "saving" Draymond's center minutes any more - but it didn't quite feel like that was the right description. But it is for sure a fundamental shift for them to (verbally, anyways) put it out there as a primary option.
Kerr's got a lot to tinker with. But I am pretty solid on that JTA and Green duo talk being more than just PR. mix in some JTA, OPJ and then play around with Lee/Iguodala/Poole combos. The more I think about it, the more excited I'm getting for monday.
What's your prediction for opening night lineup?…
Talking about the regular season opener in LA
stopnpop (10 ♡):
> Golden State has also hired Yarone Arbel -- one of the first international scouts known to be on the trail to discovering Giannis Antetokounmpo -- as their new director of international scouting
Abaddon (9 ♡):
On the subject of OPJ, I thought it was interesting how he talked about how the Chicago training staff had him bulk up and it seemed like there was an undertone that his injury issues might be related to that. He talked about being at a more natural playing weight right now with respect to playing faster and while he didn't come out and badmouth Chicago directly it seemed to be there, reading between the lines.
In summary; hopefully now that he's at what is a more natural weight the injury issues of the past few years will be behind him.

Video of Wiseman working with Dejan makes my heart warm.
Spin move, then spin move counter

notoriousA.B.E. (6 ♡):
Dray's in camp today so I can eat my conspiracy theories, haha. MT2 has a video of him shooting
It looks like he is getting more upright with his release but his waist is still bent so to my eye it looks almost like he's leaning back. Hey, I'll take it if it means he's hitting more open 3s. Let's go Draymond!

Fighting the universe's box
GlueAndBold (18 ♡):
I’m greedy- I don’t want Draymond to ever play for another team. I don’t even want him to coach for another team. He is the quintessential Warrior in the same way Steph is. They are two sides of the same coin.
SoCalJusticeWarrior (9 ♡):
“Apologies to any Ted Cruz fans out there.”
So, no one?
Arash (9 ♡):
""Draymond is probably the best leader or teammate you could have," LaVine said. "He's out there each and every day watching film with guys, looking at different defensive scouts, bringing guys together. Obviously we know (Kevin Durant) was the best player on the planet at this time in the game, but Draymond was very, very crucial in us winning that gold medal."
- Zach Lavine
Its things like this which make me hesitant to straight up trade Simmons for Draymond. On a game level, they are relatively similar (Dray being a better defender while Simmons is a better scorer), but its the intangibles which make Dray so amazing!!
Abaddon (9 ♡):
Great quote. It’s also telling that, despite Bam being a really good player, Team USA really excelled when Draymond was in the game instead:
belilaugh (9 ♡):
[if Wiggins lost salary would ease GSW tax bill] Lacob has reversed his stance and is now hoping Wiggins stays unvaccinated until the end of the season lol
Warriors Glass Cannon of a season kicks off …
Andrew Wiggins refusal of vaccination sets a collision course with the schedule, but it sure is nice to see the team again
Abaddon (9 ♡):
[Looney] talked in his (short) media day interview about how healthy he feels and how strong he finished the season, and how he wants to pick up where he left off. I believe some of the stiffness we've seen from him in the past was due to pain and/or injury limitations. Hope he can maintain his current feeling of well-being and success.
Abaddon (9 ♡):
> how a talk with Rob Pelinka played a factor
"Look Baze, we like you and we're glad you're on the team, but if you don't get stuck, your ass will be cut faster than you can say 'Go Lakers!'"
Captain Jack (8 ♡):
I'm SO excited for Bjelica and Porter Jr as the newcomers. I've never seen a contending team filled with vets have insane young talent at the end of the depth chart like this squad. I really hope the Wiggins situation gets resolved and Klay returns with a vengeance because this team is going to be freaking fun to watch when everybody is back. Haven't been this hyped since KD's first year.
mDuo13 (8 ♡):
Yeah, my desires for this season are like:
- I wanna see Steph Curry go off. Like he does basically every year, but especially towards the end of last season. Like that game where he needed 20 points to catch up to Beal in the scoring title and he did it in the first quarter lol.
- I want to see progression and growth from the youngsters and role players. I'm particularly excited to see what Poole, Wiseman, JTA, and Kuminga can do. (Moody, I have more high-floor/low-ceiling expectations for, but it would be nice if he had at least one break-out game too.)
- I want at least game where the 4 returning members of the original Small Ball Death Squad completely blow up another team in crunch time.
- I want Klay to have at least one super-hot game where he does stuff that leaves fans and the rest of the basketball world in awe. Y'all know what that's like.
- I want to see the bench going bonkers and celebrating like goofballs over any random little thing.
- I want to see some team accidentally get Draymond fired up and suddenly end up on the receiving end of him flexing and screaming at them because he just singlehandedly blew up like two of their plays in a row.
- I want to see some brilliant, exciting, high-BBIQ play on both ends. Whether it's a nifty new set play from Kerr, a sneaky cut by Lee or Looney, a clever improvisation by Steph & Dray, an artful pass and completion by one of the free agents, or whatever else... I want that moment when I'm watching a play expecting one thing and I'm totally surprised (in a good way) by what happens next.
In short, I'm ready for Warriors basketball.

Haha my wife and I do the nyt crossword at dinner every night and when we got to that clue I told her if she didn't get it we were done. Luckily we're still together ;)

Asked Curry if he's expecting, hoping or wanting the Warriors to use the taxpayer midlevel exception in the buyout market or otherwise this season: "Yes, yes and yes," Curry said. Adds that it's obviously based on what's available and how it fits with the team. But also: "Yes."

Post about anything interesting from the day here.
I cooked two beer can chickens on the Traeger today but forgot that I had a ton of fat leftover on the drip pan from some beef back ribs I cooked a few days back. Huge fire that took two beers to put out. Good news is the chickens survived.
Also waiting on Dre to post some ominous, vague shit on twitter now that he's back.
