ESPN mock draft has Kuminga going to the warriors at #7. On my way to the shops to get a Hennessy bottle. A full proof emotional preparation method, courtesy of DH.

Here's the thing I don't get; if you need to have an "established" player to complement Curry, Thompson, and Green, Myers coudl just admit to a mistake drafting Wiseman, who still has a ton of potential, and try to trade Wiseman + 14 for Halliburton or some similar player on a rookie contract. They are established at least in the sense that you know what they can do against NBA competition, there isn't a problem matching salaries, you get to keep Wiggins and can find a couple of big men hunting a title with the MLE and the minimum, and you still have the #7 pick to play with.

I’m flattered to be quoted twice, but if this obvious exploitation of my brand extends to you selling sick merch emblazoned with my likeness, you’ll be hearing from lawyers.

I'm not including wiseman in a beal trade, if so then we should keep the 7th or something. Wiggins +7&14 or wiggins wiseman 14

I think the beal would kill our defense is being over emphasized, yes it will drop a little bit but the offensive improvement is massive.

All I’m saying is that if GSW pull off a trade, they better announce it in advance, because I don’t want to be angsting / psyched about the draft picks only to find they were traded…

FYI Random Twitter guy says about Woj on TV right now:

HUGE: Woj says the Warriors are either trading for Bradley Beal or making the picks at 7 and 14. No other trades.

Big workout in Golden State today with Chris Duarte, Trey Murphy, Moses Moody, and Davion Mitchell in for a competitive workout. Results of the workout could very well play a role in who they end up selecting at No. 14.

> With limited opportunities to evaluate players live in real games this season due to pandemic restrictions, NBA teams say private workouts are playing an outsized role this draft cycle, with many completely reshaping their boards after seeing players in 1 on 0 or 3 on 3 settings.

My hot take is that this is why Bouknight has moved from maybe being available when the Warriors pick at #14 to maybe being unavailable when the Warriors pick at #7.

I have a hard time seeing a major trade happening this week. I just get the feeling Wiggins and Wiseman aren't going anywhere. If anything we might see #14 + Paschall/future picks go for a smaller scale rotational player.

I’ve been wanting to post this and this looks like a good place (thought about just posting on reddit, but … it’s reddit. The convo is way higher level here than there … or anywhere else I go to satisfy my Warriors itch)

I think the Warriors will likely end up using their 7 and 14 picks (the situation just not looking conducive to their making a trade before the draft for many reasons that, if I tried to enumerate them, would make this post even longer and more boring than it is already looking to be).

I believe that that the team should separate their championship aspirations form their drafting philosophy. They should not sacrifice a better long term player for a lower ceiling win now type player. That kind thinking got them Evans and (in a different regime, but still team history) caused them to pass on Kobe. I know it’s not exactly original, but the team should just take BPA at both spots even if neither player can help now. Whenever team rationalize not doing so, they are always sorry. I would rather take a “useless to us this season” Giannis, then a “ready to contribute now” Michael Carter Williams.

I haven’t watched enough full game action of all the prospects to have my own opinion of who we should draft. Absent personal opinion, I am just kind of using prevailing opinion at the moment so don’t fixate on specific players I mention here. As an example, if Kuminga ends up falling to 7 and Moody is still available, and Kuminga just won’t be ready to contribute much this season, but Moody will, but Kuminga projects to solid starter while Moody looks l more like perennial bench player, then the Warriors should draft Kuminga anyway.

Now you say, what about trying to win now in Steph’s prime? Well I am all for that. That would be a different post about how they should approach fee agency; it’s just that, for the most part, that goal should not affect draft decisions (IMHO, of course). I just don’t really believe there’s a path were we took a lower ceiling pick BUT that pick was SO ready to play now that they were the difference in the Warriors winning the title this upcoming season.

“Beal's potential availability has sparked significant discussion among league personnel, but there appears to be less confidence Lillard will seek a different team prior to training camp. Warriors officials have expressed doubt Lillard would eye Golden State as a destination.

Bob Myers' front office has felt a similarly cool market for their package of picks Nos. 7 and 14 as Philadelphia has for Simmons. Canvassing sources around the league, it seems few veteran impact players are considered to be available at the moment.”
