It's really hard to say no to Duarte, as his combination of skills, character, and being a relatively complete player (compared to teenagers) seems like it would fit right in to the NBA. The pitch of "Klay lite" makes it super obvious how he would fit the team.
But Sengun is MVP of the Turkish league at 18, and deservingly so. Sure, his skillset might look redundant with some of the guys we already have, and dated compared to the modern NBA. But I don't think rebounding is going out of style anytime soon, overall BBIQ and passing are obviously Dub Nation values, and 80% on free throws is a great stat for a center / PF type. With his youth and everything we know about him so far, it is not out of the question to picture him as someone with the potential to be a new generation big man in the mold of Jokic / Giannis / Ayton / etc.
Watching Niccolo Mannion play for Italy. I would not be surprised to see a big jump from him this year. Maybe takes some pressure off of wanting to draft a backup point. At least that is what I keep telling myself.
Why would the Dubs want another teenage big that will take years to develop? Curry is 33. He probably has only 2 good years in him that you can expect him to play at an All NBA level. I would rather have Mitchell, but for this exercise, I would choose Duarte because he is playable right now. Better they try to trade the pick for someone like Christian Wood.
Sengun. Really nice skills for a youngster, and it seems like most of his defensive downside is stuff he could either improve or learn to work around with good coaching and hard work.
One more thought: I hope the Warriors are asking Dejan Milojević’s opinion about Sengun and what he’d be able to do with him. There’s a lot of Jokic in Sengun’s game.
That KingsHerald article-and-discussion by Brendan in the Twitter link Eric provided is easy to miss…and really good.
I’m more in love that ever with his offensive arsenal and BBIQ and reports that he’s still growing. His defense terrifies me, but Looney is about the same size and roughly the same athleticism. I also figure our new Euro bigs coach could help him.
If this kid can play league average defense or shoot a league average from deep, he’s absolutely a rotation guy. If he can do both, he’s a guy you build a team around.
Winner of an MVP in a major European League has to mean something. Sengun is a player whom the Warriors can use now and continue to develop him. Who knows what kind of a tandem he could make with either Green or Wiseman on the floor. We have no one like him and I would be willing to take the chance on him. Every player has flaws but this guy has a huge ceiling, very young, and an already pro game.
Sengun by a mile. He’s the only competition at 7 to Moody and Wagner, and frankly might be the best of the three (still leaning Wagner, but tough to pass on what he brings to the table day 1). I’m ok with Duarte at 14 if some of the other interesting guys don’t fall that far, but even there feels a touch reachy
Sengun. Highest upside in our range, even if he's a terrible defender (which I don't think he will be) he should still find some minutes off the bench.

So I have to go Sengun with this one.

At 7, you go for big swings. Give me Sengun

Why do I get the feeling we're about to take Mitchell at 7 come draft day

Let's get the Duarte Parte started!
Interesting on The Athletics mock guide they have Moody 7, Sengun 8, Bouknight 9 and Wagner 14.
From what I can tell Wagner drops down due to his perceived lower offensive ceiling compared to the other prospects ahead of him.

Voting Sengun.
Both are reaches at 7, but Duarte seems like more of a reach.
Alright I'm sold on sengun, I'm not picking him at 7 over moody but moody at 7 sengun at 14 would be real nice

Can we just call Jerry West and ask him pretty-please what we should do? Just for, like, old times' sake?
