I think one thing this series has confirmed for me is that if you want playoff minutes from draft picks, you're usually best off trading the picks for a known quantity.

That said, I'm pretty excited about all the young draft picks we've got on the Warriors right now, and it feels like the team is pretty well positioned to compete for at least the next 5 years. Maybe I'll feel differently about things if the season starts off a little rough, but... even if Wiseman still isn't ready, Looney's a finished product as he is now, and Mannion stays in Italy indefinitely... feels like by the time Stephen Wardell Curry retires from the league either Kuminga or Wiseman may have blossomed into a legitimate star, and they'll have a pretty reliable cast of rotation guys they've built up chemistry with to continue into the next generation.

Nice series, Eric. A dynasty is a tricky thing, as Laker's fans know, as any team who had LeBron as their GM knows. And the Warriors had a 7 year draft draught to boot. I give the FO high marks their investment and patience with Loon, their gamble on Poole, and squeezing a little juice out of the likes of McCaw & Bell given their annual Debbie Downer draft positions. (And Paschall, though gone, credit for a 2nd rounder getting an all rookie nod.) If the FO ability to create value out of so little translates to their recent picks of Wiseman, Kuminga & Moody, then we are really in for some good times. More importantly, it's even more promising that we see a FO that is still growing, recognizing shortcomings and being willing to evolve. The coaching staff overhaul seems to mirror what the Giant's have done recently and I expect we will see similar results. I see more pelts on the wall for Bob & Co.

The Dubs not only did right drafting during their finals runs, but knocked it out of the part in the first draft after: 2019's #28 pick Jordan Poole. Talk about punching above your weight.

Recommend this recent deep dive on JP3's progress (crafty shot creation, refined true shooting, deft footwork, off-ball smarts) and prime areas for growth (lower body strength/explosiveness, pocket passes, lobs, defensive closeouts, and sticking to his man). Be warned the site is nearly unreadable on phone due to ads and random refreshes, awful. https://uproxx.com/dimemag/jordan-pool-golden-state-warriors-analysis-videos/

Reminds me why I love DNHQ for being a fan-run posi zone instead of a profit-leeching hellsite like too much else on the web. Even in the offseason dog days, you all have me coming here daily to read practically everything and stoke my hunger for the epic 21-22 season incoming...

Quite a bit of the difference is due to the Warriors drafting Looney who would have gone much higher except that he was viewed as damaged goods because of the hip problems. Maybe the Warriors just have better medical evaluators than other teams? On the other hand, they missed with Damian Jones who would have gone earlier except for an injury and continued to have problems staying healthy while he was with the Warriors. Win some, lose some I guess.
