Curry, Green out against Sixers, because that's how this season goes
Just one game after his return, the Warriors superstar is already back on the shelf (illness), setting up yet another battle of the bench players
I sat down to write about the similarities between the pairing of Draymond Green and Eric Paschall to that of the Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. With both franchises’ fortunes tied to some extent to a pair of players that aren’t known for their shooting prowess the parallels are an interesting development to explore - especially with the first game in a long time with Paschall, Green, and Curry occurring tonight.
And then… the Warriors 2019-2020 season rose up and asked “what did the five fingers say to the face?”
Slap.
So… I guess the big story now is the Alec Burks / Glen Robinson revenge game? Both players were having career years with Golden State before getting dumped for 2nd round picks as the Warriors chose to restock the cupboards and cut salary in this lost season.
It was a huge blow to the team at the time, losing two of the teams scoring leaders and stalwart veterans in the locker room. But Jordan Poole and Damion Lee seem to have responded well, coming on of late.
The late scratch of both Curry and Green (along with the already known absences of Embiid and Simmons) sets up this game as a battle of two support squads.
As Rich Pedroncelli of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote earlier this week, Robinson will be coming in with “an extra little chip” on his shoulder.
“At the end of the day, they let me go for a second-round pick, and the same with AB,” Robinson said. "So just like anything else, just go play with an extra little chip on our shoulders, going in there. Just have fun with it.
“No disrespect. Not hard feelings. It’s just going to be cool to go against some of the guys we have been practicing against and playing with all year.”
While disappointing for everyone, Curry and Green’s absence thrusts the backup wing players of Golden State’s past and present into a matchup that should still be fun to watch.
