Curry goes off for 50; Looney grabs 22 boards as Warriors advance!
Golden State will face LeBron James and the Lakers for round two
That was a new playoff career high for Stephen Curry. 50 points (8 rebounds, 6 assists) on a day where the team was looking a little “dicey.” Whew. Another victory earned, the dynasty advances.
Though it felt like he was doing it alone at times, Curry had plenty of help to put the Sacramento Kings away. A two-point game at the half, it took a patented Golden State Warriors 3rd quarter flurry to gain any separation; before the champs piled it on in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Kevon Looney was phenomenal in his own right, controlling the offensive glass and tying the all time record for most 20+ rebound games during a playoff series.
This is why I’ll never stop believing until the final buzzer as long as Curry and this core are still here.
Shout out the the Kings. Extremely tough series. Welcome back to the playoffs! Like so many teams that have tried it before, you came up just a bit short of knocking out Curry and the Warriors. But the beam has shined for the final time this season.
I can’t wait to consume more information on this game. Going into halftime being down two, the DNHQ writers chat was filled with a nervous, but still confident believers. And yet, it took something special for the Warriors to really move the needle and pull away from a feisty Sacramento team. I don’t even know what the heck happened. Somehow, the team managed to pull off a 35-23 third quarter which sent them into the final frame up by 10 points. Looney was a beast all day, but shined in particular during that third quarter run - the team’s 13 offensive rebounds were (thankfully) more than enough to offset the extremely weird occurrence of nine missed free throws that quarter. Weird. But hey, a win is a win.
Golden State will get a few days off to prepare and get some rest in before their big showdown again LeBron’s Lakers - a team that has looked a whole lot better after some big trade deadline moves.
I’m already annoyed at the whistle.
But today is a day of celebration. Still plenty more work to do, but the Warriors earned some party drinks and loud yelling.
I am wanting to watch the replay. Did game 7 not air on Bay Area sports? Was it only national? Did they end the broadcast season with that dud Game 6?
Since I matched perfectly the forecast for the first round series, up to game 7, daring homecourt advantage ping-pong included, I think you will be pleased to read my one for the SF:
Game 1 LAL W
Game 2 Dubs W
Game 3 LAL W
Game 4 LAL W - all the commentators recite the De Profundis for us
