I just don't understand how a professional sports franchise can take a look at that already poorly constructed roster and said "Yep, Russ is the last piece needed."
Still makes no sense how guys that aren't good at selling calls get punished for not being a good actor when they're usually the ones that's getting fouled the most. Obviously Steph is up there but there's a few other guys in the league that doesn't go to the line as much as they should.
If he’s runaway DPOY and scores, say, mid- to high-20s per game on good efficiency, handles a bit, stretches the floor… I think the answer is ‘yes' at that point, even over Jokic, Shai, et al.
I’m not crazy about entering an era where the best player in the league is also the biggest, but obviously there’s a lot more to Wembanyama than that, and he seems like a nice, compelling guy, so I’ll come around. I hope he gets a foil who is worthy of him.
[Slater] Al Horford will sit tomorrow for the Warriors on the front side of another back-to-back. So no Horford against the Grizzlies, but that sets him up to face the Clippers on Tuesday night.
Lucky in the sense that we get to root for the most ethical superstar in recent memory. Unlucky in the sense that he gets a crap whistle for being a superstar.
Playing around a little bit it doesn’t matter what the point total, down to 22, Steph’s got the most. Kareem has more starting at 21 but Steph is likely to pass him for a few more.
Funnily enough as you go down in points our own Klay Thompson passes Steph, still behind Kareem. Crazy to have such success with your two leading scorers shooting so few free throws.
Sorta related: Are you able to look up win/loss records when a player scores 50? When it happened to Gordon vs GSW, someone said it was rare to lose when someone on your team scores 50 and I was thinking it’s kinda common.
the comment (not mine, paraphrasing) was that it's difficult to lose when someone scores 50 at ultra-high efficiency. Gordon's TS% was over 1.0.
I'm sure there are dozens of World B. Free-esque games where somebody went nuts, but on a lot of shots, and lost. That wasn't the point that was being made.
It's an interesting point. I suppose a really bad team could have a guy who goes nuts for 50 very efficiently but the team can't defend granny and nobody else can buy a bucket. I have no idea how often that has actually happened though. I imagine you are right, it's rare.
I'd be a little more sanguine if the Dubs' starters hadn't been dominated by Portland in the pre-season. Perhaps they were uninterested then, too, but maybe they have trouble against big and quick teams.
It’s the start of the season and the old guys (minus Steph) were no more in regular season shape in preseason than they were this time.
Portland is likely to give the Warriors difficulty regardless, it’s a bad matchup. But this was a particularly bad combo, then throw in the hot three point shooting. I’m hopeful by the time the playoffs come around Melton will be back and in shape and able to take on some of that pool of attack defense the Warriors were struggling with so much. We’ll see.
He is off to his typical slow season on a MAVS team that will harbor no unexpected surprises...to my thinking, by JANUARY he should be rolling for a CONTENDING DUBS....lol
RIIIIIIIIGHT....past his prime or not, in an ill-fitting role/and an afterthought at MAVS last season, he shot the 3 at the same efficiency as SPLASH BRO STEPH. He fits perfectly at SG on a CONTENDER DUB team the next 2 years, as does his contract....the ANSWER to a FINALS RUN BOTH SEASONS. I hope KIDD never figures it out, and we reach out to him, seizing the OPPORTUNITY created by MAV'S IMPLOSION/NICO'S FOLLY!!!
Kings lineup is so bad…
I just don't understand how a professional sports franchise can take a look at that already poorly constructed roster and said "Yep, Russ is the last piece needed."
Who were they going to get at the vet min to better fill that roster spot? Russ can still play.
They're tanking, whether the team knows it or not. The remains of a westbrick puts butts in the seats.
Still makes no sense how guys that aren't good at selling calls get punished for not being a good actor when they're usually the ones that's getting fouled the most. Obviously Steph is up there but there's a few other guys in the league that doesn't go to the line as much as they should.
Reeves finishes with 51, including 21/22 from the line. Dub Summer League favorite Chris Manon got three minutes of action for the Lakers
Superstar whistle. Foul grifter extraordinaire.
Nobody should shoot over 20 free throws a game. I don't even care if it's Jimmy or Steph. I thought 16 FTA is already a lot.
Both LA basketball teams won tonight.
In case this hasn’t been shared, this schedule analysis is interesting. The Warriors have the most (10) back-to-back road games in the NBA this season along with the Nuggets and Clippers. https://www.nbastuffer.com/2025-2026-nba-schedule-rest-days-analysis/
...and the most rest disadvantage games in the league. schedule gnomes kind of fucked them this year, as usual. something something west coast travel.
14 rest disadvantaged games for the Warriors - no other team has more than 12....
I was wondering why Doncic wasn't playing tonight until I realized that he has a sprained finger.
Austin Reeves about to attempt is 18th FT against Kings with 2+ minutes left in the third. I hate watching him grift.
Blazers-Clippers and Kings-Lakers are close games at halftime.
Blazers were up 10 and gave up an 8-0 run in the last minute before the half.
5-0. Officials didn't count the last three since the ball was still in the shooter's hands.
Just saw that on gamecast
Mavs will get their first win of the season thanks to great shooting from AD, Flagg, Christie, Marshall, and...DLo?
Clippers are playing tonight. Which means that the Warriors will face them on a 2nd night of a B2B.
Curses....
So… Wemby is already the best player in the league, huh?
If he’s runaway DPOY and scores, say, mid- to high-20s per game on good efficiency, handles a bit, stretches the floor… I think the answer is ‘yes' at that point, even over Jokic, Shai, et al.

I just hope he stays healthy…
Probably. And he can still get even better. It absolutely blows my mind.
He’s 7’6” with good feet and a shooting stroke…
tallest ... ?
looking scary. . .14 rebounds, 6 blocks, 4 assists. though not amazing.561 TS% for his 31 points today.
[Slater] Al Horford will sit tomorrow for the Warriors on the front side of another back-to-back. So no Horford against the Grizzlies, but that sets him up to face the Clippers on Tuesday night.

Makes sense, you want Al against Zubac. Don't need him as much for Edey and JJJ
Hope trace eats his embiggening frootloops tomorrow morning.
And/or QP eats his strooploops.
QP got the feist, but he ain't got the mass (yet, I hope).
You know what doesn’t make sense? That stoppage
Yeah I didn't like it at all. Glad I'm not a betting man
And Edey's still recovering from summer ankle surgery
Per Polymarket Hoops, Steph Curry has the most games in NBA history with 35+ PTS & under 5 FTA.
We are so lucky.
Unlucky
Lucky in the sense that we get to root for the most ethical superstar in recent memory. Unlucky in the sense that he gets a crap whistle for being a superstar.
StatMuse link: https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/most-35-point-games-with-4-or-fewer-free-throw-attempts
Spoiler: it’s not even close; Steph has 55 such games and next closest is Kareem with 34.
Will SGA end his career with more than 1?
No

It wasn't my point ... I should go back and see who did make it, but I'm lazy. :)
I thought it was quite perceptive.
I'd be a little more sanguine if the Dubs' starters hadn't been dominated by Portland in the pre-season. Perhaps they were uninterested then, too, but maybe they have trouble against big and quick teams.

I suspect that's a typo but "pool of attack defense" isn't a bad description of our permeable POA defense, leading to a stream of Blazer points.
If you want to describe permeable POA defense you could call it: Poole of attack ...
Good one! 🤣
Nice write-up, DANIEL...Frankly, PODZ is no shooting guard starter for this team...
Your guy is having an arguably worse season so far. I miss him, but I do think there's an argument he's past his prime.
He is off to his typical slow season on a MAVS team that will harbor no unexpected surprises...to my thinking, by JANUARY he should be rolling for a CONTENDING DUBS....lol
There’s no question he’s past his prime. It’s unclear now if he’s a starter on a good team.
RIIIIIIIIGHT....past his prime or not, in an ill-fitting role/and an afterthought at MAVS last season, he shot the 3 at the same efficiency as SPLASH BRO STEPH. Steph: 100pts (20/20 FT)
Luka: 92pts (23/29 FT)
Shai: 90pts (33/40 FT)
🎵 One of these things is not like the others
We do have Jimmy though... :)
To be fair, Lakers have only played two games.
As have the Thunder, although they've already played 4 OT quarters
To be unfair, that makes Curry's Un-superstar whistle look even worse
