People may bag on the broadcast team, but Kelenna seems like a genuinely nice guy. Meanwhile, at 81 Rick Barry is basically sitting in God’s waiting room and making no effort of repair his reputation.
Also, I didn’t recall his “watermelon grin” comment to Bill Russell during the ‘81 Finals broadcast, but god damn he’s a prick.
I cannot believe how GP2 has tailed off as a defender, ever since his enjuryI believe last season. It is one thing to be physically challenged since then to try and recapture his former defensive excellence. His mental errors are another. Early in the game, he fouled a 3 point shot attempt with no chance to block the shot.
Why can the coaches not put out a mantra, do not attempt to block anyone's 3 point shot. The Dubs almost NEVER block a 3 pointer. But too often they are called for 3 free throw attemps. So the result is trading a 35% on average chance of the shooter making 3 points for about 75 to 80% chance of them making 3 points at the line. The odds and statistics scream out: Do Not Try to Block a 3 Point Atempt unless you are maybe JK.
The best thing to do is to try an put one or both hands in a position to block the shooter's vision.
Later in the game GP attempted to lock another one, but he wasdlate getting there and he accelerated and flew by, leaving the shooter a wide open lane for a layup. In my book, that was 5 points he gave away and the Dubs lost the game by 4.
The orther 2 probelms: They seem to face quite often an average scorer who has a big game. More importantly, they have no answer for a capable opposing big man, and the Blazers not only had Cllngan ( 22 pts, 11Reb) who played well and was very effective, but also Robert Williams (8-11) who was vey effective when he wanted to be. Bothe ahot 65% !!
Lomgbefore the season the brain trust knew that they needed a lot of help on defending the big players, and the best they could come up with was Horford and QP, neither of whom can compete against capable centers. TJD is a better defender than those 2, but he has his limitations and besides, Kerr does not play him. I am very concerned about the future right now, and I am very disappointed, because I love my team, but they are fighting uphill way too much, and there are too many really good teams that they have to contend with constantly, not to mention their record vs. the teams that no one considered to be a problem for the Dubs this season.
YES the 2 wins vs. the Spurs were impressive, but very hard-earned and somewhat lucky. Other than that, things have become dismal.
The Pelicans new interim coach doesn't seem to have much use for him, and Loon could help us in some ways (rebounding, screens, defense - albeit he's not a great rim protector) but he's not a difference maker. We'd be right back to no spacing from the 5 spot when Post sits, and we need that. Even with Horford searching for consistency, AH has the potential to be a much better fit now than Loon.
Looney knows the system better then Al and always calmed everybody down with the crazy play and the turnovers, not to mention the rebounds and kick outs to curry to get him going on off nights
I've watched a few minutes of 2 Wizards games and they've been . . . entertaining? (The 4th quarter and OT against the Pistons where Cade had almost 50 was really fun, and this Bulls game is actually not bad at all)
It's time for Dumbleavy to shake up the roster and get a legitimate big. Until then Kerr needs to start Post in the post. Draymond is too small, Horford is a part timer and Jackson-Davis is flawed. He has absolutely no outside shot which means his defender can stay in the paint making it hard for the other Warriors to drive for layups. Oh and somebody needs to tell Fitz it's the defensive player who is "on" the offensive player not the other way around.
LOL IT FITS. Anyone who gives up the 3 youngest starters of the last DUBS SHIP Team, either does not understand what DUBS BALL is all about, or, may be slightly learning disabled....
This is one of those "I wish we had Jokic" ideas, unless you tell us which big you'd like to acquire and what you think the Dubs should give up for this big.
Funny, I did not even notice it. You are right, of course. No matter how dumb and frustrating certain choices/decisions maybe we should not ridicule their names...except if it is the LOLAKERS....LOL
You mean, LeBOJO CRYBABY, who knocked down DRAY, stepped over him, and went crying to the MEDIA/NBA to get DRAY suspended for a game that got BOGUT hurt and cost us a NBA 'Ship after our historic season and STEPH UNANIMOUS MVP?
OOOPS....SORRY...I need to be fair to GOAT #3, AFTER STEPH and MJ....
After trade deadline, particularly if we get him. I know you know enough about bball to know it does not make a difference what he is doing in KIDD'S NON-SYSTEM. We know what he does in ours.
He's not a free agent until the summer of 2027. When last seen in our system, he was an unhappy camper and wanted to try something new, so he left. He was not shipped out. He was made a better offer than the one he signed at Dallas. And he's not coming back. There is almost certainly no chance that MDJ makes that deal.
Imagine though if MDJ has a revelation and he does make the deal....instant redemption for not getting back to KLAY with a 3 year offer his entire last season, and INSTANT CONTENTION for the TEAM...
Or it's Dunleavy's ticket out of town when Joe Lacob discovers it's not instant contention and we gave up something useful (or Dallas wouldn't do it) for a semi-washed memory.
lol...well, at least we would gain something,,,,win-win either way. IF KLAY is who we know he is, we have found the missing shooter of last season; if he does not, we lose DUNLEAVY who broke up the 22 'SHIP TEAM, LOST 3 OF ITS YOUNGEST STARTERS, and has not been able to replace any of them.... WIN-WIN....
Way OT but interesting if you like Western history: Samuel Maverick was a powerful land baron and rancher in the early and mid 19th century who famously refused to brand his cattle. Unbranded cattle thereafter became known as “mavericks.”
Samuel Maverick was one of the last Alamo defenders to leave after the Mexican army surrounded it, leaving on March 2, urged by Alamo commander William B Travis to convince the Texas convention to send reinforcements. The convention called a special session to consider this on March 6 but the Alamo fell that day. Maverick then stayed on with the convention, signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, and helped draft the new Texas constitution.
He later became the first mayor of San Antonio. There’s a lot more; he lived an amazing life.
Even further OT: Samuel Maverick’s grandson, U.S. Representative from Texas Maury Maverick, coined the term “gobbledygook.”
I like San Antonio. The Alamo is fascinating, what's left of it. The rumor is false that I'm old enough to have been there during Samuel Maverick's second term as mayor.
It’s all good though. We need dynamic athleticism, young legs, rebounding, and size. A mostly washed, slow, 36 year-old shooting specialist (who can no longer shoot that well) clearly turns this team from whatever they are now into a team that’s a serious threat to knock off OKC.
It’s not only a great take, but a take that gets better every 100x it’s repeated.
He shot the same as STEPH LAST SEASON. This season you do not have a large enough sample, though I do not think he gives a sugar there. Glad it only took the first 100 takes to get the point across to you.
Klay 18.4 pts per 36 on .552 TS, mostly created by others
Steph 27.5 pts per 36 on .618 TS as his team's primary shot creator and opponent's primary defensive focus
Saying Klay "shot the same as Steph" because his 3FG% was only six points lower is as meaningful as noting that Quinten Post "shot better" than either of them.
I like MOODY, a lot, He should be playing at SF in BARNES' ROLE. He will shoot even better and contribute more as he is able to take it to the rim, rebound, and defend 2-4....Unfortunately, KERR appears to have problems playing him...
So I just read that Houston leads the league in O boards by some crazy margin and that's how they make up for low volume of 3-pointers. Uh oh, we better hope they miss 27 threes in a row ...
A quarter of the season already almost done is wild to process. Really hoping the schedule balancing out and inserting a healthy Melton can give these dragging Dubs a much needed boost.
So glad that the Dubs stuck to their guns regarding that JK contract over the summer - not necessarily a knock on JK but having that be super tradable just opens things up so much more as a "break glass in case of emergency" situation come the deadline.
Steph having to score 40+ every night, Dray having to start at Center, and Jimmy taking all that punishment to get to the line just for us to be dropping games like this is....not ideal.
The part of what he says that I agree with is that dumping on the young guys in public was not a good idea, and it's the OG that is making the mistakes.
Not sure I buy that most of our issues are just the brutal schedule, but we'll find out one way or another in a week or two.
Clingon sounds a lot like the perinneal foe of Dr. Kirk. I wonder if loondawg would have made a difference last night? I was hoping for a 5-0 run this homestand but now it looks like even a 2-3 record might be hard given we have OKC and Houston coming!
SFGate did a little blurb on Rick Barry being a dick to Kelenna https://www.sfgate.com/warriors/article/warriors-rick-barry-kelenna-azubuike-cringe-moment-21202863.php

I guess you gotta appreciate the symmetry - Blazers hand us both our first road loss and first home loss of the season...
I for one do not appreciate the symmetry.
Wow! Kings beat the Nuggets, ending their eight games losing streak.
Win at Houston, no problem. Home game against the Kings . . .
There were some warning sign recently though (like the home loss to the Bulls), even before Gordon got hurt
Feels like we are really missing looney
The Pelicans new interim coach doesn't seem to have much use for him, and Loon could help us in some ways (rebounding, screens, defense - albeit he's not a great rim protector) but he's not a difference maker. True dat.
I've watched a few minutes of 2 Wizards games and they've been . . . entertaining? (The 4th quarter and OT against the Pistons where Cade had almost 50 was really fun, and this Bulls game is actually not bad at all)
It can't be that bad, we just happened to lose to the only, I repeat - ONLY, team to defeat the defending champion 16-1 OKC Thunder.
Post had a good game last night. I don’t know why his minutes are so limited, especially when we need some size out there.
i agree , I really have enjoyed watching him this year. I think he may be a key.
I get the sense this year that they are still in data gathering mode and so the line ups are somewhat predetermined .
Maybe I’m delusional, but it seems like playing Post a lot more may be key this year—-he really seems to be improving rapidly.
It's time for Dumbleavy to shake up the roster and get a legitimate big. Until then Kerr needs to start Post in the post. Draymond is too small, Horford is a part timer and Jackson-Davis is flawed. > Dumbleavy
Oh, that’s clever.
I don't know. I thought it was kind of dunb.
How about Jokic for Pat Spencer and two second round picks. Who says no?
I doubt the nuggets will agree.
We may have to two more SRPs
No deal. Who do they think he is? Desmond Bane?
I looked ahead at the schedule....with the current roster, I see us exactly where we are on DEC 31, AT .500, give or take a game...
Funny, I did not even notice it. You are right, of course. No matter how dumb and frustrating certain choices/decisions maybe we should not ridicule their names...except if it is the LOLAKERS....LOL
Dino, your point made me realize I've done this to Lebron, among others, so I've deleted my post. I need to do better myself.
I promise I will be better to the deposed king...
Que sera, sera...without KLAY for JK...GM redemption opportunities do not show up every day...
On the year, Klay Thompson is shooting 34% from the field and 30% from three for a total of 9 points per game. 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
That makes him one of the worst players in the NBA.
There's a reason that the Maverick is the mascot for Dallas -- because it's a dead horse, and you keep beating it.
Any chance you might someday stop?
The beatings (of the dead horse) will continue until morale improves (??)
After trade deadline, particularly if we get him. I know you know enough about bball to know it does not make a difference what he is doing in KIDD'S NON-SYSTEM. We know what he does in ours.

A maverick is an unbranded cow not a horse but otherwise, yeah, I'm with you.
Now I know something I did not know!

I lived 15 years in SA...have spent lots of time at the ALAMO...THANKS FOR THAT HISTORY JOURNEY....
I like San Antonio. The Alamo is fascinating, what's left of it. The rumor is false that I'm old enough to have been there during Samuel Maverick's second term as mayor.
Live and learn...

Saying Klay "shot the same as Steph" because his 3FG% was only six points lower is as meaningful as noting that Quinten Post "shot better" than either of them.
Moses Moody stats, meanwhile:
12 ppg on 42% from the field, 42.6 from three, 12 points three rebounds a game.
I like MOODY, a lot, He should be playing at SF in BARNES' ROLE. He will shoot even better and contribute more as he is able to take it to the rim, rebound, and defend 2-4....Unfortunately, KERR appears to have problems playing him...
Heyyyyy, let's play nice. We're all on the same side here, even when the Warriors are playing poorly.
So I just read that Houston leads the league in O boards by some crazy margin and that's how they make up for low volume of 3-pointers. Uh oh, we better hope they miss 27 threes in a row ...
You could have said the said the same for Portland.
I should have said: In light of the Portland game ...
Before the Nuggets game, they had a 41% Oreb rate. I watched about half the Nuggets game...they didn't rebound that well in that game.
Nuggets are a lot taller and more athletic than us
Yeah...not a comparison to us, just a disclaimer that the quoted # has probably dropped.
A quarter of the season already almost done is wild to process. Really hoping the schedule balancing out and inserting a healthy Melton can give these dragging Dubs a much needed boost.

Man, Alc just tore into Moses in his breakdown. He pointed out dozens of POA fails. Also thinks buddy and gp2 should get benched from the rotation.
Timpf weighs in on JK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSVaBAioY_Q
The part of what he says that I agree with is that dumping on the young guys in public was not a good idea, and it's the OG that is making the mistakes.
Not sure I buy that most of our issues are just the brutal schedule, but we'll find out one way or another in a week or two.
Blaming the schedule is just making excuses and we're way better than that. Gotta figure out how to play better. Go Dubs.
"Someone in league scheduling musta bet the under for GSW wins this season and they ain’t even tryin’ to hide it. "
Clingon sounds a lot like the perinneal foe of Dr. Kirk. I wonder if loondawg would have made a difference last night? I was hoping for a 5-0 run this homestand but now it looks like even a 2-3 record might be hard given we have OKC and Houston coming!
Kirk is the GOAT of the Starfleet captain set, but as far as I know he never had a doctorate.
Kirk's ex wife had a doctorate, though.
It was just an honorary Doctorate in Badassery from Klingon Tech, not an actual doctor but he's allowed to use the term.
