NGL this is pretty great. Multiple Golden State references.

Hi! I just want to say that I loved this article (post? Newsletter? Update?)! Great breakdown and I learned a lot! Originally finding DNHQ by way of E1P on YouTube, I love the periodic deep dive and I love learning from the real world examples of players I know so well so my brain isn’t trying too hard to map the diagram to the jersey number to the player to the position... you get it. I know how to keep an eye on moody! Easy peasy!

So. Thank you!

ESPN's NBARank Top 10, counting down from 10 to 1 left->right:

AD, LeBron, SGA, KD, Tatum, Steph, Luka, Embiid, Jokic, Giannis.

Honestly, I have a whole host of issues with the ordering of this list, but whatever. Also, Kendra darling, Steph didn't lead the league in three pointers made last year - that would be his teammate, Klay Thompson.

Bwahahahahahahaha... SGA above Steph Giannis and Jokic?!

WTF?!

Expand full comment

Sorry... I'll edit to make it clear, that's counting down from 10 on the left to 1 on the right.

Bwahahahahahahaha … Luka and Embid above Steph?!??!#?

That’s okay, it’ll give Steph more ammunition to prove them wrong.

OT: Aces looking like peak W's right now. Liberty seem shook.

Expand full comment

Agree, they looked awesome in Game 2. Not sure the Liberty get a game.

Yeah, I was watching delayed and after the Liberty missed their first 100 shots I checked the final score and decided watching Max Christie would be more entertaining

Updated world PG rankings:

1. Steph Curry

2. Chelsea Gray

(Though to be fair, that's really been the order for a while now)

Expand full comment

Yeah, Gray/Plum/Young in the back court is crushing.

IMO The only way Gay doesn't make the team is if someone like Gallo or another younger player who fits our system and is too hard to pass up on becomes available. Which is pretty unlikely. He's looking like a natural fit for this year's team.

wooo I'm feeling pretty Gay here boys!

So, what do we want to see out of Los guerreros (the Warriors) tomorrow?

I thought the positive stories of last game were Kuming-od, and Podziemski, plus Saric fitting in just fine.

I think I'd like to see LQ have a bounce back game, and Destiny Odin Usman Guruba (DOUG) get a bit more run. Garuba got a whopping six minutes last game.

Expand full comment

I really just want to see some mix of old and new players and see how fluid things look.

Last game was a real surprise as to how good the bench could be, watching that tighten up and CP3 going with the flow is all I can ask at this point.

Expand full comment

I wasn't surprised the bench looked that good ... about a week ago I was predicting that the bench would win us 5-10 games this year (that might be low).

Paul, Joseph and Saric are all very good (to historically great) passers. So that box is checked. Kuminga looks ready to be the scoring engine and with Moody, Saric and either Wiggs or Klay, that's a really potent offensive team. All without sacrificing too much defense, probably (Saric is a question mark, I guess).

The only real warning sign is that I think Saric is going to be *really* important to this team. If he goes down, they are going to have to play differently.

Wonderful piece in The Athletic this morning about the annual game between the San Quentin Warriors and GSW intramural squad, and Chris Paul's and Klay's participation in the event.

Poignant, moving, compelling writing by Marcus Thompson II, with a lot to say about CP3's embrace of Warriors' culture and fit on the team.

"It takes something to look into hardened eyes, shake calloused hands, listen to devastating stories and care to see the humans in front of you and not just the past behind them."

That was just awesome. Man can Marcus Thompson write!

I'm hoping he sticks. He reminds me of a OPJ type of team player in that his personality fits even better than his on court play. He is a great addition if they keep him- which I think they will.

Dodgers got swept by a playoff team with the least amount of wins (84 for ARI, 100 for LAD). LOL.

Ten straight seasons as arguably the best team in the league (1031 wins in that span — 91 more wins than the next best team!) … and only one World Series — in the covid shortened 2020 season — to show for it. Welp.

BEAT LA! Diamondbacks sweep Dodgers out of the playoffs

Baseball postseason can be so brutal and upsets are really common given that starting rotations are shortened due to days off and series (particularly the WC and DS) are really short.

SF Giants are a good example - three championships (2010, 2012, 2014) but far from being the best team on paper in any of those years. Then they win 107 games in 2021 and get knocked out by the Dodgers in the first round.

Sure, but that does not change the fact that it is delicious in this particular case

Yeah, The dodgers...But I just don't like that all a team accomplished over the prior 6 months is washed away by an ill-timed two or three game mini-slump. I'd rather excellence get rewarded over...what, luck?

You gotta win when it matters. I don't call that luck.

Lakers so far tonight running with an eight man rotation. Um, guys, it’s preseason…..?

Kings have played 12 so far.

Odd pre season schedule for the Lakers, they have 5 games every other day from Sat to Sun and just one game in the last week and a long break until the regular season.

Ah, well that explains it. Not an ideal schedule to be sure. Too bad, so sad.

Post practice Kerr presser info:

- Cory Joseph is back and feeling healthy

- Rudy Gay is having a good camp

- Dray is still rehabbing but is able to work on conditioning

- McGruder is in latter stages of concussion protocol

- Kuminga & Moody both having really good camps

- Garuba, always liked him, excited to have him. Loon/Dray type player. Thinks fit here is better than Houston (no kidding)

- Dario perfect fit, getting better every day, missed Bjelly/Porter stretch passing big last year

- Moody working on fitting into the offense better e.g.. cutting at the right time playing off Steph

- Kuminga rebounding better good to see, looking comfortable with his shot, needs to keep it up and he’ll play more and more

Hyped to hear today's Saric post-practice interview:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B8SX-sly5M

His vision of a an unstoppably fast, fluid, high-IQ, ball-and-player-movement offense (my favorite kind) and how much he likes it and fits the mold has got me super excited. If the dream is real, I hope we can keep him.

If we can keep both him and Guruba ....

Garuba would have to have a fantastic season to go from 2-way to priced out of our reach. That happened with GP2, so it's possible. But if he DID have that kind of year, it sure would help us win the Larry trophy.

Expand full comment

I think GP2 went from 10-day contracts to some sort of min with a roster spot. He was never a two-way for the Warriors.

Expand full comment

Technically correct, I think, but since a 10-day is less than a two-way not sure the distinction is meaningful in this discussion.

I checked, and he signed two 10-day contracts and won a roster spot. So y'all are right, he wasn't on a two-way.

Expand full comment

I agree it's pretty likely we keep Garuba if we want to.

I should have finished the thought ... it was more about having a defensive/offensive center combination that would set us up for the future (next couple of years after this season, perhaps).
