NBA Summer League new rules and schedule
From The Athletic:
The California and Salt Lake City circuits introduce two trial runs to the summer league.
All foul shooters take a single free throw, with that one shot worth the number of attempts it replaces, until the final two minutes of a game. To spell that out:
The free throw is worth one point after a technical foul or an and-1.
It’s worth two after a standard shooting foul.
It’s worth three after a 3-point attempt.
There are also “connected basketballs,” which use embedded sensors to collect data for future refereeing. They’re meant to get more accurate whistles for rulings like out-of-bounds calls.

Rosters
The team with most of the players you’ve heard of is the Gold team, which will be playing at Chase. This includes last year’s additions of my irrational good feelings guy Will Richard, LJ Cryer, Malevy Leons, Chance McMillian (whom we barely got to see last year due to injury) and the 2026 draft picks (All-NBA Quote Man Yaxel Lendeborg and LaJae Jones).
For the truly obsessive, Blue has some interesting players too. My guy Conrado Pascual as a comprehensive review of all the players who had press availability:
Yaxel Lendeborg
Lajae Jones
Will Richard
LJ Cryer
Malevy Leons
Graham Ike
Nick Boyd
Chance McMillian
Steve Settle III

We interrupt this LeBron for an important annoucement: the Warriors are playing basketball today! Now back to your scheduled LeBron.
Thanks for the Blue/Gold breakdown. Excited for Yaxel's debut!
Besides (obviously) Dominican LBJ and Jones, I’m really hoping Cryer looks like a legit NBA backup PG who’s playing with kids. With Spencer* gone, he’s it right now and his shooting could make him an upgrade.
* Fun fact: He played lacrosse
