2023 Warriors Training Camp opens tomorrow! Our preseason schedule and preview
The champs begin their defense of the crown
Training Camp Opens Sep 24!
The Golden State Warriors are officially opening the doors to their title defense run with the start of Training Camp on Saturday, September 24th. Once again rolling into the season with an established core and some intriguing developments around the edges of the roster this should be interesting right from the beginning.
With Steve Kerr and Bob Myers speaking yesterday, today will open player media availability. It’s the corny but lovable Media Day today!
This season, Golden State gets the honor of representing the NBA for two preseason games in Japan. So the team will fly out at some point, play games in Tokyo next Friday and Saturday, and then return back home for three games between October 9th through the 14th. From there, it’s just a few short days to the Regular Season opener at home against LeBron James and his Los Angeles Lakers on October 18th.
For now though, get ready for some reasonably exciting views of players warming up, and some good quotes. Warriors basketball is close to being back!
(FYI NBA.com says the Japan Games will be broadcast on NBA League Pass and 95.7 The Game for radio.)
All clear for launch!
The biggest news coming into training camp this season is that everyone is fully cleared and ready - excepting of course, Andre Iguodala, who remains coy about his future (though reports are that he is working out at the team facility). With the core firmly entrenched, there’s plenty around the edges to figure out, and I’m already excited about watching the new wave Warriors come into their own.

The Warriors don’t necessarily have a depth problem, but it’s not entirely clear how the rotations will eventually work out. During his initial media availability, coach Steve Kerr called the rotation “wide open” past his top six. If we’ve learned anything from watching this team recently, it is that we should expect a fair amount of roster tinkering and experimentation throughout this season. While the preseason won’t necessarily fill out the rotation, it will offer some early glimpses about Kerr’s preferred pairings and initial ideas of who goes with who.
Contracts? Get your contracts!
Because this is the NBA, the Golden State Warriors are dealing with a looming concern associated with three of their players that are all currently under contract for the upcoming season. Jordan Poole is up for a big payday, Andrew Wiggins has played his way into deserving an enormous re-up on his contract, and Draymond Green (as discussed here at DNHQ recently) holds a player option for next season that present the opportunity for both sides to restructure around the tail end of his career.

One of the more concrete items for discussion out of the Warriors’ first media availability was that Poole’s representatives and Golden State will be setting aside time to discuss the specifics as soon as the team returns from their quick foray into Tokyo.
Given the delicate and uncertain nature of these negotiations, the expectations are that this is not something that will likely be resolved quickly. The most relevant deadline is the October 17th cutoff date for Poole’s extension; if nothing happens by then, Poole will hit restricted free agency next offseason. It’s not that it isn’t important, but these big deals generally take time to iron out - especially given Poole’s strong showing in the playoffs, and the Warriors extremely apparent financial crunch against the NBA’s punitive luxury tax.
Let’s go!!
From all of us here at DNHQ, we hope you had a lovely offseason, and like us, are now ready to embark on yet another magical journey.

Any post coming for the 1st day? I had to letsgowarriors.com to get clips. I'm not proud of that.
"I'm looking forward to playing, but I'm on Kuminga, I'm on Moses Moody, and I'm on the young fellas," Iguodala said on his "Point Forward" podcast on Friday. "And I'm letting them know, 'Listen, if I get on this court, you ain't doing something right. There's no way you should allow me to get on the court.'
"And that's just something I'm feeding to those guys and making sure that when I walk away, everything's taken care of."
